Is it? When do you prefer it over Wail?

Warping wail is good vs combo (delver flip is no good)

Spatial is good vs delver flip.

Leovold and a few stray ones, still too narrow to be included over WW imo.

    Looks different, but good!

The many needle-effects and spotremovals gives a more control-oriented feeling and I like the 15-post approach.

How well does Trinisphere work without the early ramp? That card has caused me some problems even with rocks+key.

It's refreshing to see something different than the "standard" lists:-)

Caprino is going a control list, he defends it a few pages back basically by saying "everyone else losses to wasteland". I don't really have the games to disagree.

I played Chaliceless 14-post with 4-5 Needles effects main the past 3 tournaments. I did this to purposely test without Chalice.

    1st tourney:
    Win vs DnT
    Lose vs Lands
    Win vs DnT
    Win vs Grixis Delver

    2nd tourney:
    Win vs Dnt
    Lose vs Lands
    Lose vs SnS

    3rd tourney:
Lose vs UW Helm - normally you win this with Chalice on 1 into stuff but I couldn't stop him from tutoring. He only needed to Unexpectedly Absent the needle and win next turn.
Lose vs UWr Miracles - I was eating StPs the whole day on this one.
Lose vs Elves - Needle is not useful here and I was about one/two turns too slow.

I was hedging vs Lands with 4-5 needle effects main but if you only get 1 needle, they use Ghost Quarter instead and lock you out anyways.

Overall, I'd still recommend Chalice main and the Needles in the SB.

I don't necessarily see that as a problem point. I've run Needles and Chalices in the same deck before; vs. Loam-decks might prefer Chalice at 2 anyways and vs. many of the control-decks you're in such a great position after Chalice at 1 that you don't mind dead Needles, while in the Chaliceless games the Needles might come in. I think the things this deck does are inherently powerful enough that it might be worth accepting some anti-synergy (same with Voltaic Key; too good not to play even if it occasionally faceplants in your own Chalice) though I wouldn't run more than 1-2 MD Needles to complement Spyglasses. As this deck lacks artifact tutoring, the benefit is lesser than in blue Chalice Stompy.

Hey guys, I made a discord server for anything related to decks playing the 12-post manabase, and that also means this deck! Feel free to join and we can ask on the fly about deck choices, questionable keeps/plays, and any other terrible ideas we may have!

Today Azor's Gateway was spoiled. It's an artifact for 2 with 1, Tap: Draw a card, exile a card. If cards with 5 different mana costs you gain five life and it transforms into a land that says Tap: add X of one color to your mana pool where X is your life. So it's a card quality engine that this deck needs. It's cheap, and if you transform it you now have a land which taps for at least 6.

Kinda cute synergy with Voltaic Key. Though I'm not sure it's fast enough or does enough to warrant the card slot. Ideally you don't take 5 turns before you do a big mana play, and until you've gone for 5 turns it's literally just a looter. And by the time you've gone for 5 turns you should have enough mana to cast your stuff anyways (or you're probably not winning). I've got the feeling that e.g. Scroll Rack or Coercive Portal would accomplish more in your average game. Though it might be interesting against resource denial decks since they slow down the game and transformed, it alone can catapult you to Eldrazi mana.

    Re: BigEldrazi

The card text reads "1, Tap: Draw a card, then exile a card from your hand. If cards with five or more different converted mana costs are exiled with Azor's Gateway, you gain 5 life, untap Azor's Gateway, and transform it".

Then, after it is transformed: "Tap: Add X mana of any one color to your mana pool, where X is your life total."

So as I understand it, if you exile an oblivion sower on turn 2 (one sol land, and then play any untaped land), you can cast Emrakul right away! Please correct me if I'm wrong...
