You just have to accept that there will be times when you can't use it due to a prior Chalice @ 1.
In each game you have to weigh the importance of each play. For example, if you have Chalice @ 1 on Turn 1, is it more valuable to have that Chalice @ 1 in play or is it more valuable to have explosive mana? Some times you just have both - Monolith + Key on turn 1 into a Chalice @ 1, for example. Other times Chalice @ 1 simply does enough to win the game for you and you don't care about having Key in your hand as a dead card.
Makes perfect sense. I think my mind is just programmed for playing prison decks, so I always fire off a Chalice @ 1 whenever I can.
That said, I did have a few games last night where Key just produced essentially infinite mana and I got to cast giant monsters and win the game on the spot, so there's that, too.
I've been trying your list now but with 4 Ugin the Spirit Dragon and different Eldrazi (I don't like the old Kozilek):
2 basalt monolith
4 chalice of the void
4 grim monolith
3 key
3 trinisphere
4 thran dynamo
1 emrakul the aeons torn
1 Emrakul the Promised End
2 Kozilek the Great Distortion
2 ulamog, the ceaseless hunger
4 thought-knot seer
4 Ugin, the Spirit Dragon
4 ancient tomb
4 city of traitors
4 eye of ugin
4 eldrazi temple
2 vesuva
4 cloudpost
4 glimmerpost
Hi Guys,
I got 7th on 25-Man Tourney
Deck Name: MUD Post / Big Eldrazi
// Main deck : 60
// Sideboard : 15
[26 LAND]
4 Ancient Tomb
3 City of Traitors
4 Cloudpost
4 Eldrazi Temple
4 Eye of Ugin
4 Glimmerpost
1 Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth
2 Vesuva
[15 CREATURE]
1 Emrakul, the Aeons Torn
4 Thought-Knot Seer
4 Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger
2 Walking Ballista
4 Wurmcoil Engine
[5 INSTANT / SORCERY]
3 All Is Dust
2 Warping Wail
[14 ARTIFACT]
4 Chalice of the Void
4 Grim Monolith
4 Thran Dynamo
2 Voltaic Key
SB: 2 Warping Wail
SB: 4 Leyline of the Void
SB: 2 Platinum Angel
SB: 4 Spatial Contortion
SB: 3 Trinisphere
1st Round - UWR Miracles (2-0) WIN
Definitely a good matchup for me since all they do is land drop and pass.
And this deck usually like every POST and MUD decks really have a high chances of winning when the lands are already set on the battelfield.
1st Game(W): ended it fast via ULAMOG, TCH
2nd Game(W): ended it by boarding my 4 Spatial Contortion and 2 Warping Wails and casted EMRAKUL on Turn 6 I guess.
Boarding:
+4 Contortion
+1 Warping Wail
+3 Trinisphere
-4 Wurmcoil
-2 Voltaic Key
-2 Ballista
--------------------------------------------
2nd Round - Sneak Show (2-1) WIN
Opponent got a Game Loss due to his Decklist Error when the judge called for a Deck Check so we started at Game 2 without boarding.
2nd Game (L): I lost because his Emrakul connected after he show and telled the Sneak Attack on Turn 4 or 5.
3rd Game (W): I won and got lucky. The opponent casted Show and Tell on T3 or T4 and dropped his EMRAKUL and I chose to drop WURMCOIL ENGINE and passed his turn. When My turn, I bluffed my opponent by attacking my Wurmcoil Engine thinking that if he's gonna block it with his Emrakul, his definitely going to lose. I think he didn't realized that it was a Deathtouch so he immediately blocked the my wurmcoil. Then I did have my chance and destroyed the Emrakul that made a big difference on the game. I connected a TKS and Wurmcoil on my next 2 Turns and sealed the game.
Boarding:
+2 Platinum Angel
+2 Warping Wail
-2 Voltaic Key
-2 Ballista
--------------------------------------------
3rd Round - Dragon Stompy (1-2) LOSS
This is really a bad matchup for me since he has Blood Moon and Magus of the Moon on his side and an accurate T1 to T2 drop.
His deck also consists of many artifact destroyers like (Manic Vandal with Phyrexian Metamorph and Sculpting Steel in his MD)
1st Game (W): I Won via Ulamog and my Grim Monolith and Thran Dynamo really helped when I was under the effect of Blood Moon. Ballista also helped by killing some of his 2/2 creatures.
2nd Game (L): Dropped his Manic Vandal on T2 and destroyed my Grim Monolith, Then Copied it using the Metamorph to destroy my Thran Dynamo and to my surprise he used Sculpting Steel to copy the metamorph (Manic Vandal Copy) that made another Manic Vandal effect that destroyed again my last Thran Dynamo and sealed the game by attacking me one by one.
3rd Game (L): I got locked by his T1 Blood Moon and Gorilla Shaman with Liquimetal Coating. I could resist the synergy of the two because I have my 2x Thran Dynamo online on that game but I drew alot of lands and no business to cast (I was expecting a TKS or Wurmcoil that could change the game) eventually he drew another artifact destroyer that destroyed my Thran Dynamo to finish me. P.S. I drew a lot of land on that game lol.
Boarding:
+4 Contortion
-2 Voltaic Key
-2 Warping Wail
--------------------------------------------
4th Round - Burn (2-0) WIN
This is a good matchup for me specially when I am on the Play.
Eventually I won the Die Roll so I was on the Play.
I won the Die-Roll so I went first.
1st Game (W): I casted T1 COTV for 1 and sealed the game by casting T3 Wurmcoil.
2nd Game (W): I have Wurmcoil again on my favor and casted it on T4, I almost lost this game but the odds was really on my favor. P.S. Thran Dynamo and Grim Monolith really helped because I wasn't dropping any NON-BASIC lands that could end the game for me asap because of the Price of Progress. All I need was 2-3 lands to make the deck viable against BURN decks.
Boarding:
+3 Trinisphere
+3 Contortion
+1 Warping Wail
-2 Voltaic Key
-2 Ballista
-3 All is Dust
--------------------------------------------
5th Round - BR Reanimator (1-1) DRAW
Intentional Draw against my Teammate to proceed in the Top8 spot.
--------------------------------------------
6th Round - Semi-Finals - MUD Post (1-2) LOSS
Its a Mirror match against my teammate. lol!
1st Game (L): I was on the Draw because he was on the Higher seed. Loss due to his Oblivion Sower Tech that made him a bit faster when setting lands, Casted his Ulamog faster than mine.
2nd Game (W): I won by having Monolith and Key to ramp asap and casted Ulamog asap. Ballista also ended the game by pinging him a 1 life left.
3rd Game (L): Again the Sower perfectly did a good job on racing my deck and casted Ulamog again faster than I could.
Boarding:
+4 Contortion
+2 Warping Wail
+2 Platinum Angel
-1 Ballista
-4 Chalice of the Void
-3 All is Dust
--------------------------------------------
3-1-1 on 5 rounds of Swiss
3-2-1 on FINAL Standings after SWISS

"Deadly When Hungry"
I got wrecked tonight. Lost 0-2 again to UR Delver (same as last week). This matchup literally feels unwinnable. Then I lost 1-2 to Esper Blade. Got ran over by equipment. Then I beat Burn 2-1 but scooped because my opponent got paired down and could get prize with a win. Deck felt very sloppy tonight.
Probably same as yours.
I just don't know what's better. Do you think Ugin is better than All is Dust or not? Do you think old Kozilek is worth running? 4 Ulamogs or less?
You've had the most success with this deck so far so I'd have to defer to your experience at this point.
What's a good sideboard for a meta filled with UR Delver (public enemy #1), D&T, Burn, Stoneblade, Miracles?
I've only lost to UR Delver and 'blade out of that bunch, but I'm at a loss for words when it comes to Delver. Maybe Dragon's Claw?
For me, Ugin is not that good in this kind of decks since All is Dust lessen its cost when Eye is in the BF and Temple can also ramp it since its an Eldrazi Card. It's my own opinion though. Ugin may be good too at times but for this deck that has only a 3-4 slot for mass removal I would choose all is dust. =) and "All is Dust" cant be Needled or Revoked.

I think old Kozilek least one copy in the deck there must be, it is useful vs show and tell and decks with the moon.
Ulamog there must be at least 3 copies
all is dust I find it better than ugin, its casting cost is lowest.
you can still try ugin.
speech on the side, I'm thinking of putting a few copies of ratchet bomb.
what do you think?
I change main deck my list top mkm
+2 kozilek butcher - 1 kozilek new - 1 emrakul
What do you think?
I'm still running almost same decklist I was a year ago
MD:
-3 City of Traitors
-1 Urborg
+4 Vesuva
SB:
-4 Faerie Macabre
+4 Leyline of the Void
I still think Endbringer is great in this meta, so good vs Show and Tell and Random stuff. Also idk why people are cutting warping wail maindeck, card is great vs every deck.
A PostDrazi list was in the T16 of europe's eternal weekend.
Link to the results/decklists?
