CFB $3K event and the last of NorCal GPT

I genuinely wish the guys at CFB would pull their heads out of their ass and properly promote their events. Maybe more people would attend, like when I posted their first $3K event exactly a year ago and got their record high attendance. I'm only promoting this one because I might attend and would like a healthy amount of people to attend. The more rounds of Magic, the higher the justification I get to drive an hour and a half and drop forty dollars to play.

CFB $3K guaranteed payout with possibility of increased payout based on attendance.

Re: CFB $3K event and the last of NorCal GPT

Just to give some perspective to any in/around Portland interested in the 2/26 event at CFB (I think that's the one right next to the airport):
-best southwest flight I've seen is $73 going there Sat 2/25 departing 0645. best return flight (same airline) was Mon 2/27 departing 0645.
-driving looks like a 10.5hr ordeal each way.
-amtrak is....interesting I guess. The travel time starts at 1425 (2/25) and is an overnight trip arriving a few miles south of CFB at 0955; so technically enough time to get to the venue before 1100. The nice part is that a train also departs 2/26 at 2023 arriving back in portland at 1532 on Mon 2/27, so no need for a hotel at any point. The real issue, aside from travel time and tight timing window on either side of the 3k, is the cost assuming you actually wanted a bed, a table to play, and the ability to store cards in a private room (as opposed to under a seat or as checked baggage)....with two people in one room (2 beds per room) you'd be looking at $500 each roundtrip....and it doesn't matter if you had a party of 4 or more, it's still $500 per person. Other than not needing a hotel room and having a place to play magic/drink the beer the whole way, it comes with a shower and complementary meals.

Same info for the guys in Seattle:
-Southwest from Seatac is $210 on 2/25 and $202 on way back 2/27.
-driving takes on 3h or so.
-roughly $70 more but on the same train; your departure would be 0935 (2/25) and back in Seattle at 2012 (2/27).

Even with cheap plane tickets from PDX you're still looking at 2 nights in a hotel or saving more money at cost of ~20 hours in a car. While the train dodges hotel and almost all dining costs, it's still throwing down $500 (maybe only $400ish, see below)...but get enough people and you get to jam more legacy than you'd ever want (with private tables), potentially getting a seattle/portland mix.

Not as useful to the Seattle crowd but a $250 train ride down could be combined with $180 flight back to Portland at 2140 (2/26) or the $73 at 0645 (2/27) - I think this is the most cost efficient non-driving route factoring out cost of +1 day in hotel and cost of 4 meals preceding 3k were one to take the plane both ways.

Any idea how late previous 3k events have run?

Thanks for all that travel info! They used to start at 1PM, and did six or seven rounds, I can't remember clearly. Not going to lie, the whole hour and less than fifteen extra minutes until the next round. Maybe eight hours? Yeah, Bay Area players are slow ones, lol.

I would advise against Amtrak if it's arriving at 9:55AM the day of. The event starts at 10:30. Assuming you make it to the train station at exactly 9:55, you gotta deal with people traffic, get a car, deal with traffic(yes, Cali is overpopulated. People need to move out yesterday) and fill out deck lists and deal with the line at the event.

Important update on CFB's event: time has changed from 10AM store opening and 10:30 event starting to 10:30AM opening and 11AM starting. Important news for people who wouldn't mind taking the train from Portland.

One more thing, anyone looking to carpool? I live in the 707 area code.

One hundred and four people tournament and was paid down to thirty second place. I got destroyed playing Shardless. Plenty of punts, but my opponents played well as well. I'm still waiting on Great Escape to give out info and CFB announced today that they are going to have GPTs that are $1Ks as well, and they will be tracking in store progress to crown best player of the year. Big things happening at CFB.

Oh, I forgot to mention that because attendance was over a certain limit, prize pool jumped from three thousand to over four thousand. After a certain number of entries, CFB will put in forty dollars per person over that limit. I don't remember what the limit was though.

That's pretty cool. Do you know if they are publishing decklists from the event?

Re: CFB $3K event and the last of NorCal GPT

I'm afraid I forgot to ask. I've been meaning to ask that since their events are large and should have some publishing, but I was on full tilt the whole day so I forgot to ask. Next $3K I'll see if I remember. I believe that will be in May. Hopefully they will start promoting by then and not getting free advertisement from me.

Top 8 lists were posted on Facebook. They might be posted elsewhere too, like the cfb website. Pushing for mtgtop8 or something. Apologies for formatting, just copy pasta. I'm the lands player in the top 4.
