Doing pre-releases back in the day was so fun. It was always interesting to learn new cards for the first time right as you opened the packs, it provided such an enjoyable experience and really put people's minds to work. I remember as a 13-year old doing the Urza's Destiny prerelease and opening Masticore, reading it twice, then realizing this card was "good" before anyone else in the room and crushing them with surprise. You don't get that anymore when everyone has equal information before the set is released.
It would be fantastic if they do major set releases in this fashion too, but in this day it's just unlikely to happen.

Also, it's kind of stupid that a few days ago WotC claimed they wanted to wait till June to reveal what's coming in fall and now they revealed it nonetheless.
just don't look at the spoilers and you'll get the same experience.

It's not always that easy. I was talking to a judge Wednesday night about the new set and he mentioned trying to be surprised during new set sealed events, but everyone always wants to get his opinion on new cards. So despite not seeking out a single card from the new set, he was aware of all the planeswalkers in it.
