    Eternal Weekend stream discussion

I was wondering why we don't have a thread for it yet:

    https://www.twitch.tv/cardtitan

Currently on screen: ANT vs Scapeshift (apparently, it was Nic Shift - and it took down the match)

Least he doesn’t have to worry about rite of flame getting banned.

Is the Legacy Top 8 known yet? The CardTitan site only has Vintage with decklists up so far.

What a great stream it's been so far! Great casters, although I wish they were slightly more knowledgable of the format.

I am surprised that lands is 6% of the field. Usually the scarcity of Tabernacle makes that sort of thing impossible.

So many different types of delver decks. Wow so healthy and diverse.

Seriously speaking though, how is Delver being in "different" shells any different from survival being in a bunch of "different" variations? Considering how much meta share Delver has altogether I can't imagine why it's okay but survival wasn't

Really glad they finally followed through with Slow Play Warnings. That Deathblade guy in the Semis should have gotten a lot more than he did receive, but at least they did something about that ridiculous 11 minute sideboarding.

He'd play a lot faster if he stopped all those weird and super annoying hand gestures. Also, stop checking your graveyard on your Upkeep when you have neither an ability to interact with your yard, nor have a reasonable line to bluff interaction on Upkeep. This isn't Predict Miracles.
The seven cardinal sins of Legacy:
    1. Discuss the unbanning of Land Tax Earthcraft.
    2. Argue that banning Force of Will would make the format healthier.
    3. Play Brainstorm without Fetchlands.
    4. Stifle Standstill.
    5. Think that Gaea's Blessing will make you Solidarity-proof.
    6. Pass priority after playing Infernal Tutor.
    7. Fail to playtest against Nourishing Lich (coZ iT wIlL gEt U!).

My theory was that many were owned by or borrowed from Vintage players that otherwise don't go to as many legacy events.
I played GR Lands, Pox, GR Lands to start the legacy main event - tabernacle was in play 5 of the 7 total games.
    Tusk up.
(Not so) Current Decks: GB Elves, GW Maverick, GWb Maverick, LED Dredge, ANT, TES, Jund Storm.

I hadn't played Legacy in 5 months before this event, it was my first time making Top 8, this was the first time I've ever had to play on camera, and I'm only mediocre at playing magic.

Delver of Secrets isn't really the problem here. The format would naturally revolve around Uxy Turbo Xerox decks no matter what the individual win conditions are simply because Brainstorm is so above the curve, and the shell of Brainstorm, Ponder, Force is such a generically powerful starting point. Delver is just the most efficient way to close out a game when you run a bunch of cantrips and free or one-mana interactive spells.

If you really want to break open the format, ban Brainstorm. I suspect that will never happen, though, because the format has been under Brainstorm's iron heel for well over a decade and WotC has never shown any inclination to change that.

I thought you did very well Hanni and congrats on top 4 man! Your play skill and deck building seemed to pay off.

As Nick is a vintage head and to be honest EW is more about the vintage than the Legacy event the announcers tend to have much stronger vintage knowledge than Legacy:
    • Mark H - Vintage Dredge player and winner in 2011 (maybe 2012?)
    • Mike Noble - Vintage player, known for Noble Fish and Cat Stax! Plays Belcher in Legacy
    • Randy - VSL... Old School.... and played Legacy for the first time earlier this year according to twitter

Last year they had Brassy as well instead of Mike but he's also a Vintage head even if he has a 2nd at a Legacy GP to his name.

...that format would probably be miserable?

It's definitely true that it would break it open, but probably not in a way that makes Legacy better.

I don't see how banning a cantrip would make legacy bad, especially when there's already another very powerful one to take its place
