    The Perfect Storm in Legacy

I play the Perfect Storm online in vintage and play TES in paper. I was trying to find a more interactive instead of disruptive legacy storm deck, and couldnt, so here we are.

    my list
    2x Underground Sea
    1x Volcanic Island
    1x Badlands
    4x Polluted Delta
    4x Bloodstained Mire
    1x Swamp
    4x Brainstorm
    4x Ponder
    2x Dark Petition
    4x Dark Ritual
    4x Cabal Ritual
    1x Past in Flames
    1x Tendrils of Agony
    3x Chrome Mox
    4x Lotus Petal
    4x Lion's Eye Diamond
    4x Duress
    2x Pyroblast
    4x Gitaxian Probe
    2x Reforge the Soul
    2x Hurkyl's Recall
    2x Flusterstorm

    Sideboard
    2x Flusterstorm
    2x Defense Grid
    1x Pyroblast
    4x Simian Spirit Guide
    2x Surgical Extraction
    1x Empty the Warrens
    1x Thoughtseize
    2x Rending Volley

You're basically playing sideboard cards in your maindeck. What will you do with your pyroblasts and flusterstorms when your opponent plays chalice? What good does Hurkyl's recall do when you only want it against like 5-10% of the decks out there?

Its just a brew. Cutting the pyroblasts, and my meta is 90% lands/chalice loam

Well, you wanted suggestions, I pointed out that these cards are bad in the maindeck. Even Hurkyul's recall is bad against lands g1 because they'll board in their artifact hate for g2+3. If you really want to go for the interactive route, I'd suggest flusterstorms and echoing truths: Flusterstorm is good against counterspells as well as discard while echoing truth is good against hatebears as well as Marit Lage.

    Playing devils advocate.

Why would this be preferred over ANT Or TES?

What does interaction mean to you?

I don't. I am just wondering if there is a way to break storm even more, which i believe this is. Storm is in my opinion the most broken mechanic in all of Magic, and therefore, I think there is a better way to use it. TES is really good, but I feel with a little more stability, storm could break the format

Well ant is Tes with more stability, and it is a deck to beat.

Ant is also far more disruptable via gravehate

why is this not as hateable? i don't really see how this deck is better in any way. you also are running 2-4 fewer discard spells in a deck that needs to be proactive.

graveyard hate: this deck runs 2 spell mastery cards + past in flames and no ad nauseam.

Re: The Perfect Storm in Legacy

Look up 'Grinding Station'. I think the thread is still on here somewhere. It plays the Past in Flames engine, but it also plays like 3-4 copies of Tendrils and just storms for 3-4, then draws into another Tendrils, then storms for another 4-5 FTW. I'll try and look it up. Its a slower deck than both ANT and TES, but was theoretically better at the long game. It's an old deck, maybe one to look at again for research's sake.

    EDIT: http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/s...inding+station

I think if you read up on both ANT and TES you'll find that both are very good in the legacy metagame at-large. Storm aficionados are perpetually discussing the best way to balance speed, resilience, disruption, and meta-game calls. I would even go so far as to say its erroneous to think that those 2 decks aren't already the strongest versions of storm available.

I get that, but as an avid storm player, I feel like no matter what happens, storm can be broken even more. I do believe it has the ability to break the format.

    You need to explain why

    2 Pyroblast
    2 flusterstorm
    2 Reforge the soul
    2 hurkyls recall

Why will break storm even more? This is the most ridiculous thing I've seen on here in a while.

Re: The Perfect Storm in Legacy

I tend to agree with you on that last statement.

Storm would need a card that is absolutely BONKERS to make it better, and that card would probably be *too* good. It would have to be Necro good to make the deck better. Hell, I remember when Past in Flames was spoiled and there was serious talk about it being too good for Legacy. The last card to effect storm in a big way was Dark Petition, which makes sense any time you can cheat a cost on a tutor (Infernal + LED, spell mastery + Petition).

It would need a way to draw more cards (than any option currently available, like Ad Nauseam or virtual card draw like Past in Flames) or a way to make free/absurd amounts of mana (like Cabal Ritual, Chrome Mox, a blue/black spirit guide effect.) I don't see anything like that getting printed.

@MrSafety: You forget something that storm could really use because you're used to lose to it 90% of the time once it hits the battlefield: A maindeck way to efficiently deal with Thalia and Chalice. Right now there's Burning Wish, but that's quite expensive, especially under a Thalia. If ANT had a weird creature and artifact removal that would somehow still provide value against other decks it could definitely be a thing, even if only as a 1-of. Like an Abrade, but costing 2 with a looting effect or something.

Re: The Perfect Storm in Legacy

Meh, that's what sideboarding is for. You can't account for every deck in the metagame in the maindeck. There will always be bad matchups, regardless of how good the deck gets. When you choose your deck, you choose your good/bad matchups.

I think if you're going to try and pre-board (not the cheating kind of pre-board, just having an answer to problematic matchups in the main) then consider something like Echoing Truth or Chain of Vapor. They deal with any permanent, just long enough to combo out. ET is probably better because it works around Chalice, but it costs more with Thalia. If you play TES, then Burning Wish for Void Snare seems fine, or Turbulent Dreams.

I'd recommend just posting in the TES or ANT thread. There's innovation there it's just usually either found unnecessary or it's in the smaller details. For example, people have tried, Abrupt Decay in the main, Deathrite in the SB, multiple EtW, Monastery Mentor, Collective Brutality, Night's Whisper, etc. Don't forget that people took time to consider Ground Seal and now the majority of 4C lists play it. Much more can be found in these threads. Goldmines if you look enough...

Izzet Charm is probably best bet. Kills creatures, can counter non creatures, or if irrelevant it can dig you deeper and is great for spell mastery, cabal ritual, and Past in Flames
