    Re: War of the Spark

I think this card (WWR flyin angel) is definitely relevant to Modern at a minimum, simply for having a pseudo-snapcaster ability while being an aggressively costed 3/4 flyer. Dodging Lightning Bolt means it passes the rudimentary creature power-level test that Modern imposes. It might not be good enough, but damn, it's gotta be close. I don't know what deck wants it and it isn't a 'build around me' card per se but raw power level is better than something like Mantis Rider, which already sees a lot of play (mostly due to human status.)

I'd just like to point out that if this was printed 15 years ago, everyone would have fucking lost their shit at how much power-creep is in it.

Am I reading this right: When you cast a spell they come back to your hand at EOT? So I can rampant growth every turn so long as this thing doesn't die?
And if I cast a spell with rebound it will rebound and then I can use the second casting to bring it back to my hand?
And it doesn't die to bolt?

Oopsy, I need to RTFT, it only counts for spells that target creatures we control. The only spells we would play would be pump spells or protections spells like Cloudshift. Makes it a lot worse than just any instant/sorcery. I kinda want to pair it with Cloudshift and Avalanche Riders now...oh the land destruction!

Feather works rather well with Psychotic Fury and Defiant Strike. But then you're playing shitty cards that ask for a 2-for-1.

Oh, you thought it was any instant/sorcery that targets a creature? lol... that would have absolutely been Legacy playable if that was the case. Borderline OP, actually.

Agreed. As it stands it's an interesting but non-legacy-relevant ability with a very aggressively costed body. If it were green there could be an argument for it in Infect, but not a very good argument. Not with the double white.

Feather is actually pretty good with Trash (and Rabid Bite, to a lesser degree):

Edit: There's also a simuilar interaction with Aftermath and Jump-start. Nothing really obvious though.

I guess it works if your land is already a creature. In that case it will target a creature.

It doesn't work because Part the Waterveil exiles itself as part of the resolution.

    Re: War of the Spark

Biggest issue with the angel is that its casting cost is essentially unmanageable. It can not possibly work in a cantrip cartel. And while I am not saying that red/white is impossible, there is good reason it has never been good even once in Legacy for the past 15 years. Cool for casual Heroic. Move on.
"Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job."
"Politicians are like diapers. They should be changed often and for the same reason."
"Governing is too important to be left to people as silly as politicians."
"Politicians were mostly people who'd had too little morals and ethics to stay lawyers."

    Re: War of the Spark

Best case for the Angel in Legacy is some kind of RUW Patriot build with the new 1/3 red "cast from your yard" guy, a bunch of bolts and cantrips, and maybe that red Giant Growth variant plus some double strike stuff.

Loyalty seems good if you scry but the mana cost is meh. Spash in Ruby storm or High Tide?

It seems like a worse version of Chandra, The Firebrand for that application.

What are ways to break this? I'm thinking about Allosaurus Rider and Vine Dryad, but what could you fetch with this to break it? Mana dork into tutor tool box might also be appealing.

Unlike Eldritch Evolution, you could also rebuy it with Snapcaster, for what it's worth.

Edit: Since it puts a +1/+1 counter onto it, Incubation Druid is going to have one hell of a time once it's active.

Edit #2: Apparently, Tomik was designed as a counter to DRS way before it was banned. With DD as intended splash damage. That's nifty:

I dont know about breaking it but you could just have it slowly pull out a bunch of cards from your deck ending in a big creature sometime down the road. Maybe if there was something that added mana to your pool when a creature etb. I guess Intruder alarm with mana dorks. This slow type of strategy is more aligned with modern though.

There's also the fork bomb combo. (If you can get two fork spells on the stack with one targeting the other ...)
