Yeah I edited my reply, didn't see yours when I posted. If H never casts Therapy he gains 3 life and can win the race, so U is forced to draw.

Good Lord, this round was a mess.

Thanks guys, I guess I sucked a little less than I expected, but I did not expect Rats to make things so damn complicated...

Didn't see that yet. I did, however, miss a line, I think, for Unlif3 on the play.

    U: Forest, cast Chatter
    H: Citadel, cast Mage (H=17)
    U: Swamp, Therapy the Rats
    H: ...oh shit...
    U: Flashback Chatter.
Now U has two 1/1 bodies against H's one. This should win.

So H has to explore the option to Therapy the Therapy.
    U: Forest, cast Chatter
H: Citadel, Therapy the Therapy (H=17)
U: Swamp, flashback Chatter, attack with one token (H=16)
    H: Cast Mage (H=13)
U: Attack with one token (must keep one back for defence against the Spark Mage ability) (either block and trade, or H=12)
    H: Cast Rats (H=9)

So here we have to possibilities:
    1) U=20, has two 1/1 squirrel tokens // H=9, has Rats and Mage
    2) U=20, has one 1/1 squirrel token // H=10, has only Rats
From here, U will start to attack, and so he will win the race either way.

This line wins, I think. But this only works on the play for Unlif3. So 4-1?

Sorry I didn’t add up my scores in the Invasion round. I invoke the new baby excuse and am happy to trust you all on the scoring :-)

Interesting decks this time. I would have brought lava dart and grim lava man, but I had not yet picked up on spark mage. I’m glad tarnished citadel saw use.

Edit: Words of War doesn't work, right?

Laboratory Maniac does, so Words has to as well. That means everyone needs to be able to outrace 3 Mountain + Words of War.

I think this is where the rules kind of suck (to me), but they are what they are.

Yeah, I think it works. So we'll need an answer for it. Thankfully it's a tad slow.

About 42 hours until the deadline, and we're at 7 entries now. Don't miss out!

(Two edits. Probably somewhat obvious what I changed.)

The deadline for this round has passed, and we're still at 7 entries.
I have to do a couple of things right now, so if someone still wants to send a deck, I can give you a few more hours.

    Re: 4 Card Blind

Asthereal results for round "we should have banned Blackmail":

    1. Asthereal (TO): that's me, with "if you can't beat Blackmail, play Blackmail: Swamp, Forest, Blackmail, Tempting Wurm
    2. GoblinSmashmaster: Blackmail either Swamp or Chain, my 5/5 is big enough to win. 6-0
    3. Unlif3: OTP Blackmail either Forest or Symbiote and you can't beat my 5/5. OTD you cast Symbiote, I Blackmail the Scout and I guess we draw? 4-1
    4. Wrath of Pie: OTP I Blackmail you, OTD you Blackmail me. 3-3
    5. FTW: OTP Blackmail your Blackmail (or Swamp) and my 5/5 wins it, as you can only retrieve your Zombie once per two turns. OTD you Blackmail me, and whatever I show, I think I lose. 3-3
    6. Tylert: I Blackmail away a Forest and never cast my guy for two draws. 2-2
    7. H: EDIT-Your land enters tapped, so I can always Blackmail you first and take either Blackmail or the land (if you still have it in hand). After this you can't stop my 5/5. 6-0

    Total: 24 points

We should probably have used the Legacy banned list for this Block Tour thing. There are quite a few rounds that get dominated by one specific card.

Wow, I just realized that Grand Coliseum comes into play tapped. I'm pretty sure I lose every round because of this.

Pretty stupid of me...even more stupid than normal.

Oh right. I have to reassess our games. That's unfortunate.

EDIT: Yup, now I win both. Slight oversight...

    Re: 4 Card Blind

    5. FTW: Swamp, Blackmail, Festering Goblin, Unholy Grotto

    1. Asthereal (TO): OTP I Blackmail first stopping Wurm. You can Blackmail Grotto or Goblin but either way Goblin gets there. OTD you Blackmail first stopping my Blackmail. I can only recur Goblin every 2nd turn so Wurm wins. WL 3-3.

    2. GoblinSmashmaster: OTP Blackmail. You have to hide Plains, so I take Guide. Then I play Grotto and Goblin before you get to Chain of Smog. OTD you get out Plains and Guide first and I can't beat that. WL 3-3

    3. Unlif3: I can Blackmail away a guy and threaten to pick off your guys on defense, but I also can't attack because you race me. DD 2-2

    4. Wrath of Pie: I almost submitted this, then switched out Feeder for recursion. Yours might be better in this meta. OTP I Blackmail first taking Festering Goblin. If you Blackmail taking Grotto, I play Goblin before you play Feeder (which can't block), and I get to attack for 1 first winning the race! If you play Feeder instead, I play Grotto and Goblin, and you can't attack into me so I get the first attack to win. If you Blackmail taking Goblin, I play Grotto and put Goblin back on top. You play Feeder. I play Goblin. You can't attack into Goblin + Grotto, so I get the first attack and win.
OTD you Blackmail first. If you take Grotto or Goblin, I Blackmail your Goblin and our 1/1s draw (you have racing tempo on me). If you take Blackmail, then it's Carrion Feeder + Goblin vs Grotto + Goblin. I can threat to eventually kill your attackers so we draw. WD 4-1

    6. Tylert: OTP and OTD I can Blackmail a Forest FTW. WW 6-0

    7. H: OTP I Blackmail first taking Goblin. Your land enters tapped. I play Goblin and Grotto and my Goblin wins unopposed. OTD your land enters tapped. I can't see a winning line yet (either Blackmail or Sea's Claim stops my recursion), but I can easily draw by Blackmailing your Goblin. WD 4-1.

    22 points (6 wins, 4 draws)

Edit: Remembered why I played monocolored instead of Grand Coliseum

    Re: 4 Card Blind

    1. Asthereal (TO): Swamp, Forest, Blackmail, Tempting Wurm
    1-4 confirmed.
    2. GoblinSmashmaster: Plains, Swamp, Foothill Guide, Chain of Smog
OTP I'll race you easily, OTD 1/1s will draw. 4-1.
    3. Unlif3: Forest, Wirewood Symbiote, Birchlore Rangers, Treetop Scout
    That's me !
    4. Wrath of Pie: Swamp, Blackmail, Carrion Feeder, Festering Goblin
I should lose this whoever has the toss, Festering Goblin will target Symbiote and I can't race the 2/2. 0-6.
    5. FTW: Swamp, Blackmail, Festering Goblin, Unholy Grotto
    Hah, that's interesting.
OTP I play Symbiote, then you should Swamp, Blackmail the Scout away. I play Birchlore, swing with Symbiote (F=19). You play Goblin, pass.
From there we draw : if I swing with Birchlore and you block I have to bounce and recast, but you can't attack back or I'll outtrade you with 2 1/1s vs. 1, and I can never attack with Symbiote as long as your dude is untapped.
OTD it's 2 1/1s vs. 1 again so neither of us can afford to attack. 2-2.
    6. Tylert: Forest, Forest, Tempting Wurm, Tempting Wurm
I sure can fog a huge fat Wurm, but two?! That's a bit too much for me to handle. 0-6.
    7. H: Blackmail, Festering Goblin, Sea's Claim, Grand Coliseum
OTP I can deploy all my shit before you even get a mana. From there I can completely outpower the lone Festering Goblin.
OTD I can play Symbiote before Coliseum untaps. From there Claiming my land seems a way better move than Blackmailing, but I get a free 1/1 hit on you before you land Goblin. This means your dude has to stay untapped to block and trade, and this draws. 4-1.

That should be a mere 11 points for me there. Alas, not brilliant by any means, but I did like my deck so I'm fine with that.

    4. Wrath of Pie: Swamp, Blackmail, Carrion Feeder, Festering Goblin

    1. Asthereal (TO): Swamp, Forest, Blackmail, Tempting Wurm WL
    2. GoblinSmashmaster: Plains, Swamp, Foothill Guide, Chain of Smog WW
    3. Unlif3: Forest, Wirewood Symbiote, Birchlore Rangers, Treetop Scout WW
    5. FTW: Swamp, Blackmail, Festering Goblin, Unholy Grotto DL
    6. Tylert: Forest, Forest, Tempting Wurm, Tempting Wurm WW
    7. H: Blackmail, Festering Goblin, Sea's Claim, Grand Coliseum WD

    8w2d = 26 points

Turns out CMC-sort is useful, I didn't make it past the 1-drops once I realized Blackmail was legal.

    1. Asthereal: you can blackmail me, but not play Wurm. 2-2 --> 2
    2. GoblinSmashmaster: OTP: i will have one tempting wurm in play before you can chain of smog and i win. OTD: you can chain of smog me befor i play anything 3-3 --> 5
    3. Unlif3: My two tempting wurms are big and they crush. 6-0 --> 11

Yeah, this is quite a demanding season. No options to recycle decks from earlier rounds, no known metas. It takes some time to come up with a solid deck every week.

Speaking of which, it's time to start thinking about next season.
What are everybody's thoughts on what they would like to do?

I'm thinking we could do 12 rounds of Modern, and I would suggest we ban the winning deck every week, so it's still interesting after a few weeks.
I guess we'll also have to look at the initial banned list. We can probably just start with all cards that are currently on the Legacy banned list.
But we could also do something entirely different.

Let me know what you would be interested in!

Hey, It's not a problem when the round is not dominated by a single card, at least we're having fun with various decks and we can enjoy some rock/paper/scissors meta :)

I'd be happy to continue to explore blocks.
Modern with a legacy banlist to start and banning of top deck is ok for me. I already have a deck in mind, that would probably include Aether vial... :)

    Re: 4 Card Blind

I like the block format too. The further we get in the blocks, the fewer broken cards we'll encounter. Most of the overpowered low cc cards were printed in early blocks.

    Modern could be OK.
