Thread: 4 Card Blind

  1. #4441

    Re: 4 Card Blind

    @FTW Pretty much what I had. Except you are better at playing my deck than I am. If he played 2nd bitterblossom I'd have attacked with mutavault too getting him to 10 instead of 12, but delaying a Gravecrawler turn to summoning sickness. Your line of play is better.

    1. Asthereal (TO): Island, Chronomaton, Daze, Dismember
    2. Wrath of Pie: Swamp, Mutavault, Bitterblossom, Bitterblossom
    3. PJim: Swamp, Mutavault, Duress, Bitterblossom
    4. jhhdk: Bayou, Mutavault, Rancor, Gravecrawler
    5. Serguei: Swamp, Pendelhaven, Bitterblossom, Bitterblossom
    6. alphastryk: Plains, Chronomaton, Isolate, Condemn
    7. H: Cloudpost, Cloudpost, Rackling, Whirlermaker
    8. GoblinSmashmaster: Badlands, Firestorm, Griselbrand, Reanimate
    9. FTW: Island, Chronomaton, Daze, Dismember
    10. maxx!: Tundra, Daze, Isolate, Chronomaton
    11. silkster: Cloudpost, Cloudpost, Glimmerpost, Leveler
    12. dte: Swamp, Duress, Pendelhaven, Bitterblossom
    13. Reeplcheep: Vebulid , Swamp, Bitterblossom , Mutavault
    14. Tylert: Bayou, Mutavault, Hexdrinker, Dismember

    1. Asthereal: Daze is a dead card. Dismember kills my hexdrinker, but I can handle your threat and win with Mutavault. 6-0 --> 6
    2. Wrath of Pie: Hexdrinker being unblockable races bitterblossom tokens. 6-0 --> 12
    3. PJim: You can take dismember but that's the card I did not want to use. 6-0 --> 18
    4. jhhdk: I keep dismember mana up always for the win and level up hexdrinker each turn. 6-0 --> 24
    5. Serguei: If I level up Hexdrinker to level 8, you can't block and can't race. 6-0 --> 30
    6. Alphastryk: I can dismember your threat, you can isolate my hexdrinker, and condemn my mutavault for a turn but it comes back for the win. 6-0 --> 36
    7. H. I can dismember rackling and level up hexdrinker so you can't block it. 6-0 --> 42
    8. GoblinSmashMaster: It's a bit too fast for me :). 0-6 --> 42
    9. FTW: Dismember takes care of threats. Mutavault stays FTW. 6-0 --> 48
    10. Max: Isolate and dismember trade threats. Mutavault wins. 6-0 --> 54
    11. Silkster: I can At least force the draw by level to 3 and staying in defense with dismember up to kill leveler. On the play I can chump with muta, then use dismember to stay at 1. 4-1 --> 58
    T1 = Forest, hexdrinker. Cloudpost.
    T2 = Mutavault, H2 (20-18). cloudpost.
    T3 = H4 (20-14). glimmerpost (20-17), leveler.
    T4 = H6. att (10-17).
    T5 = H8.
    T6 = 10-11. att (block mutavault)
    T7 = 10-5. Use dismember to take 9 instead of 10 1-5.
    T8 = WIn
    12. dte: Duress does nothing and hexdrinker races bitterblossom. 6-0 --> 64
    13. Reeplcheep: Dismember takes care of vebulid and hexdrinker races bitterblossom. 6-0 --> 70
    14. Me.

    Last minute change from double forest, double hexdrinker to bayou + mutavault + dismember was a good idea :)

    Total = 70

    Nice deck! Playing around Daze and attacking through Bitterblossom beat the meta.

    I think I can put enough pressure on your life total with Rackling, while also mounting some blocks with Whirlermaker. 6-0

    3. PJim: Swamp, Mutavault, Duress, Bitterblossom
    Rackling seems pretty good here, wince the 'maker gets Duressed. 6-0

    13. Reeplcheep: Vebulid , Swamp, Bitterblossom , Mutavault
    More Bitterblossom math? Ugh, I guess though that Rackling might race this too, since I can make tokens in this matchup? 6-0?
    These are all WW 6-0.
    Rackling on its own races 1 Bitterblossom.
    Whirlermaker trades with Duress or can stall vs 2nd Bitterblossom or Vebulid+Mutavault.

    OTD vs Reeplcheep
    T1 Vebulid 1/1 / Cloudpost
    T2 Bitterblossom / Cloudpost
    T3 1 token, Mutavault attacks / Rackling [opp=19, H=18]
    T4 2nd token, 1+Muta attack / Whirlermaker [opp=15, H=15]
    T5 3rd token, 2+Muta attack / 1 Thopter [opp=11, H=11]
    T6 4th token, 3+Muta attack, Thopter trades / 1 Thopter [opp=7, H=7]
    T7 4th token, 3+muta+7/7 Vebulid attack, Thopter chumps Vebulid / 1 Thopter [opp=3, H=2]
    T8 win on upkeep [opp=-1]

    OTD vs Wrath
    T1 Swamp / Cloudpost
    T2 Bitterblossom / Cloudpost
    T3 1 token, Bitterblossom2 / Rackling [opp=19, H=20]
    T4 3 tokens, 1+Muta attack / Whirlermaker [opp=14, H=17]
    T5 5 tokens, 3+Muta attack / 1 Thopter [opp=9, H=12]
    T6 7 tokens, 5+Muta attack, Thopter trades / 1 Thopter [opp=4, H=5]
    T7 win on upkeep [opp=-1]

    OTD vs PJim
    T1 Duress Whirler / Cloudpost
    T2 Bitterblossom / Cloudpost
    T3 1 token, Mutavault attacks / Rackling [opp=19, H=18]
    T4 2nd token, 1+Muta attack / Rackling attacks back [opp=13, H=15]
    T5 3rd token, 2+Muta attack / Rackling attacks & chumped [opp=9, H=11]
    T6 3rd token, 2+Muta attack / Rackling attacks & chumped [opp=5, H=7]
    T7 3rd token, 2+Muta attack / Rackling attacks & chumped [opp=1, H=3]
    T8 win on upkeep [opp=-3]

    Pendlehave seems like it makes this bad for me. I will probably have to do the math later, but seems like I lose.
    You win this too. Pendelhaven can only add 1 damage per turn.

    OTD vs Pendelhaven
    T1 Swamp / Cloudpost
    T2 Bitterblossom / Cloudpost
    T3 1 token, Bitterblossom#2 / Rackling [opp=19, H=20]
    T4 3 tokens, 1 attacks + Pendel pump / Whirler [opp=14, H=18]
    T5 5 tokens, 3 attack + Pendel / 1 Thopter [opp=9, H=14]
    T6 7 tokens, 5 attack, Thopter trades with 1, Pendel unblocked / 1 Thopter [opp=4, H=9]
    T7 dead on upkeep

    I probably need to think about this more, but I don't think Condemn can stop me since I'd never attack with Rackling and Isolate can only get rid of one token, but I should have enough to chump forever. 6-0?
    WW for H.
    Isolate and Condemn can't target anything if you just play Rackling and chump with tokens. Isolate can't hit 0 cmc.

    Hmm, seems Rackling would race? Bitterblossom math is terrible, I figured Pendlehaven might change it, but I guess I'll trust dte's analysis. 6-0?
    Same as above. Pendelhaven doesn't add enough to the race.

    Hot damn, that's a good round for you. Congrats! And for some reason, my half-awake lying in bed self suddenly realized that you're WD against me too.

    Hexdrinker; Cloudpost
    lvl2, attack to 18; Cloudpost
    lvl 4, attack to 14; Glimmerpost (me to 17), Leveler
    lvl to 6, pass; attack you to 10
    lvl to 8, pass; pass
    attack to 11; attack into Mutablock
    attack to 5; attack into Dismember putting you to 1
    attack to -1.

    Re: 4 Card Blind

    I see I never posted standings for round 12. Here they are:
    1. dte: 62 - 4,8
    2. silkster: 57 - 4,4
    3. Wrath of Pie: 47 - 3,6
    4. FTW: 46 - 3,5
    5. GoblinSmashmaster: 41 - 3,2
    5. PJim: 41 - 3,2
    7. Reeplcheep: 39 - 3
    8. Tylert: 38 - 2,9
    9. maxx!: 36 - 2,8
    10. Asthereal (TO): 32 - 2,5
    11. alphastryk: 30 - 2,3
    11. H: 30 - 2,3
    13. Serguei: 26 - 2
    14. jhhdk: 0 - 0

    So dte is running away from the competition. Will FTW or Tylert still be able to catch up?

    Thanks for the analysis.

    Now the question of the jhhdk match when I am on the draw though.

    Lets see if I can figure it:

    T1 J: Bayou, Gravecrawler, pass.
    T1 H: Cloudpost, pass.

    T2 J: Play Mutavault, Rancor the 'crawler, attack for 4 [H=16], pass.
    T2 H: Cloudpost, pass.

    T3 J: So, I have no blockers, so you can freely fire up the Muta and swing with both it and the 'crawler [H=10].
    T3 H: Hard to say here, but lets see what happens if I run out Rackling, since I do need to stop the Muta and a token can't really do that (plus, if I play the 'maker beforethe Rackling, I am sort of priced-in to making the token).

    T4 J: Rackling trigger [J=17], so again I don't think a trade for the Rackling would be in J's favor, so I think it has to just be a 'crawler attack [H=6].
    T4 H: Whirlermaker, pass.

    T5 J: Rackling trigger [J=14] and so again, a Muta attack would be bad for you and no attack even worse. So, attack with 'crawler, but a Rackling block seems bad for me, since then it frees up the Muta the next turn [H=2].
    T5 H: Whirlermaker a token [T=1] and pass.

    T6 J: Rackling trigger [J=11], but an activated Muta plus the Rancored 'crawler should be game. If I block the Muta with the Rackling, I take 3 trample from the 'crawler and lose. If I block the 'crawler with the token and the Rackling, I lose to the Muta. So, I lose no matter what.

    So looks like it should be a 3-3 on that match, unless I missed something.

    Re: 4 Card Blind

    I'm missing several results still, so standings will have to wait, but I have already created my deck, so let's open round 14.

    ROUND 14 OF SEASON 9: DEVIANT LEGACY - PART 2 has started.

    This round we play Bleed: At the beginning of each player's upkeep, that player loses 1 life. No additional bannings.

    I have PM'ed myself my deck for round 14, so you can start sending me your decks.

    DEADLINE: Wednesday the 21st of April at 11:00AM Central European Time.
    (That's my time zone. Pacific Time it'll probably be something like Tuesday night a bit past midnight, so keep that in mind.)

    PLEASE NOTE:
    The way you send your deck to me matters. Please send it in the way described below, so it doesn't cost me an hour of editing before I can post all the decks.
    Please send your deck as follows: Swamp, Swamp, Terror, Sangrophage.
    So with card tags around each card, and not above eachother, and with your Username and 4CB S09R14 in the topic.
    Don't forget to keep an eye on the banned list. You'll find it in the second post of the thread, or in our Google Spreadsheet.

    After the deadline has passed, I will post all decks on the forum here, and you can start puzzling out your scores.
    If you have any questions, please read the first two posts of this thread first. If you can't find the answer there, drop a message here. We'll answer a.s.a.p.

    Also, if you've been lurking on this thread and looking to join, you can step in anytime, any round. That's no problem at all. Just send me your deck before the deadline, and I'll add you to the competition.

    Happy deck designing everybody!

    Re: 4 Card Blind

    Thanks dte for figuring out Serguei's scores.
    They lead to these standings in the round:
    1. Tylert: 70 - 5,4
    2. H: 65 - 5
    3. dte: 60 - 4,6
    4. PJim: 54 - 4,2
    5. Serguei: 51 - 3,9
    6. GoblinSmashmaster: 46 - 3,6
    7. Wrath of Pie: 38 - 2,9
    8. silkster: 25 - 1,9
    9. Asthereal (TO): 24 - 1,8
    9. FTW: 24 - 1,8
    9. maxx!: 24 - 1,8
    12. jhhdk: 21 - 1,6
    13. alphastryk: 14 - 1,1
    14. Reeplcheep: 12 - 0,9

    Which leads to these standings in the season:
    1. dte: 53,8
    2. FTW: 46,6
    3. Tylert: 46,3
    4. Wrath of Pie: 42,2
    5. Serguei: 42
    6. maxx!: 40,6
    7. silkster: 36,7
    8. Asthereal (TO): 35,5
    9. Reeplcheep: 34,2
    10. H: 31,4
    11. GoblinSmashmaster: 29,8
    12. jhhdk: 22
    13. alphastryk: 20,1
    14. PJim: 10,4

    So Tylert completely slew? slayed? this round! Still, dte's performances remain consistently excellent, ever dominating the season chart.
    Two more rounds to go, and one of them with chances for gaining additional season points, so anything's possible still!

    For the last round, could we consider additional points for each card which were not played at all this season ? It will complexify even more the deckbuilding and the research ?

    We could, but the point of the round is its poker aspect.
    Trying to figure out what is obscure enough but also good enough.
    Trying to figure out what others might play that's obscure but also good enough.

    Also, I don't want to make things so complicated that it starts to take me several hours to figure out what's what.
    I don't have hours to spend on my own deck, and I have to be the first to send a deck in, otherwise I can't play.

    So good idea, might be fun, but I can't go for it this time.
    Might add it to the list for next season though.
    I have a season planned, but there already was an idea for a round that came up during this season, and this might also be cool.
    Although this idea doesn't gel very well with my wild idea of maybe turning next season into a bannathon despite using the "deviant" plan each round...

    I can't seem to find Reeplcheep's analysis. I was hoping he'd have some input on our match.
    I had that match as "not sure" how that'd go.
    Did he post and and do I need to look harder or did someone else post a suggestion on how it'd turn out?

    EDIT: never mind, found it in dte's post.

    If you are unsure about a match, the easiest is to look at it turn by turn, starting with the one you think is the most likely loser being OTP.
    Sometimes, there are multiple choices and it is still complicated. But most often it makes clear who will win a race very quickly.
