Modern bannathon probably won't mimic the first time we did so, but the card choices are a known factor which makes that less exciting.
We never did the Legacy version, ironically.
The thing with standard is: I personally have only played it until Mercadian Masks.
Also, it doesn't work like it used to. So I'll probably mess that up, or will need to do research.
That's why I propose a Modern Bannathon. We'll start without most of the degenerate stuff from the first one, so it's different enough.
Also, it costs me a few hours to set everything up, tops. That's an amount of time I can spare.
I'm open to suggestions, but if I can't invest enough time to make an idea for a season work, I'll probably have to say no.
And I'd hate to say: "Sorry boys, but there won't be 4CB until the end of August."
Unless that's cool with you guys. We could definitely take a summer break and come back strong.
Thanks. I'll need it.

We'd also done some discussion a few rounds ago about a pauper season, which would be pretty fun and hopefully not too much effort.
Oh right, that idea was building up to something like this:
Six rounds Pauper bannathon (top-3 scoring decks get banned).
Round 7-12 we play Peasant (one uncommon allowed), but keep the banned list as is, and keep adding to it until the end.
That could work, and costs similarly little time to set up.
Who's in favour of this idea?
EDIT: Also, considering it's pauper and so on, I'm guessing we don't ban basics?

Sounds great! And yeah, banning basics will quickly leave us without lands.
EDIT - there are a lot more common lands than I thought - https://scryfall.com/search?q=type%3...rid&order=name
Maybe banning basics is just fine.
I'm definitely fine keeping basics immune to banning (probably won't matter, but does that include Wastes)?
Indeed. Reading is very techy.
But eh... 25 hours until the deadline, and I'm at just two entries.
Including my own, which is rather stupid.
So before you all decide whether you like the plan for next season, send your deck for this round!

This is what I wanted to say, and I'm glad someone said it. As for 6 weeks pauper + 6 weeks peasant, that would work, but I also think 12 weeks of pauper would be sustainable. We'd get pretty far down into "bad" cards, but I would be thrilled if, say, Gingerbrute or my homeboy Clergy of the Holy Nimbus showed up. We could vote on it around week 5 or so (when it seems you'll have more time). At that time, we'll have a better idea of what's left. I expect to have found a dozen sleepers that are not-quite-good-enough but just waiting for their chance to shine.
I think we should keep the 5 basics and not ban them. Many fun cards depend on them to function, like Kird Ape and Lava Dart, and I like the trade-off you can make where access to more colours is more powerful but slower. I don't care either way about Wastes. I'll be very impressed if someone manages to play one where a different basic wouldn't have done just as well.
I guess you guys have done a bunch of banathons here before and have a standard protocol. I'd be happy banning to top two or three decks each week. Or maybe every deck that scores 4.0 or above?
As for this week, I have so many inbred ideas that I have no idea where to go, but I'll choose soon.
I'd be ok for Pauper 12 rounds. then peasant 12 rounds (Or anything in fact. i'm not complicated).
The deadline has passed, and I'm at just 4 entries.
What's up guys? Everybody okay? Need an extra day?
EDIT: 5 now.
EDIT2: And we're at 6.

Not going to swing it this week. Have fun!
Obviously I still can't figure out what day it is...
Let me try to make something up...
