I thought it would be interesting to see a visualisation of the changes in the metagame over the last year - I couldn't find anything like this already on mtgtop8 or goldfish (though perhaps it's there and I just haven't found it!). So I made this little density plot* of different archetypes from the last 100 pages of mtgtop8, weighted by finish rank - http://icge.co.uk/images/mtgtop_lega...s_density.html . It does nicely demonstrate that the metagame has been getting steadily less diverse - RUG has been getting a lot more dominant - since August.
*specifically it's a relative kde with a Gaussian kernel with bandwidth 14 days.
"other" is close to an all time high, so maybe that means there are a lot of different decks making top 8, meaning that the meta is diverse?

Was it you who posted on Reddit too a while back? Similar but still different username. My phone crashes when I try to look at the link above so don't know if it's the same but in case not, here's the link:

Edit: ah, just noticed that the URL starts the same so probably the same image, I guess the Source users can benefit from reading the commentary there too then so leaving the link here.

i guess less diverse than since around august, but we're still in a period with high diversity compared with 2017-18, when "other" was a lower proportion and there were highly dominant decks?
yes, that's me, should have said i was crossposting :)
