Missed the boat a long time ago: Varchild’s War-Riders. The card you’re looking for is Rampaging Ferocidon to complete the Inquest “Killer Combo” with crossbow dude.

You're assuming I wouldn't run Varchild, the War Riders, and the new dude in the same deck. :D

Oh boy if you vial this guy in during combat!

I'm sure there are EDH decks that want it.

If you’re going to play an overcosted Weatherlight card here, it’ll be Dingus Staff (will Illness in the Ranks).

Re: Secret Lair Crossover with The Walking Dead - time-limited new cards

I just saw Tolarian Community College's video about this TWD set. Hadn't heard or seen anything about it because I just ain't play Magic much these days but it moves me enough to come and day what hot garbage this idea is.

I used to liken MtG to chess, where the majority of the game pieces were well under $20 USD and many were even under a dollar - but the rooks and bishops can be $100 or more. That analogy doesn't hold up under this approach though; *if* the product in limited time sets becomes staple to any format, you're now looking at a situation where rooks are only available for short periods of time and if you miss one, or live somewhere where rooks aren't sold, you might never acquire one.

There's a little bit of slippery slope to that argument, but it's well-supported by games that are collectible-adjacent. Who among us is unfamiliar with microtransactions in gaming? Lootboxes are everywhere, gacha gaming is the mobile way, EA requires no introduction - and Magic predicted this model by decades, in a way. Now it's been lapped by its progeny and its shareholders want to run and catch up. Limited availability products sold over a short period of time is a winning strategy if your sole motivator is money.

It's been hard for me to find the words to describe my discontent with Magic for quite a while now, but I think finally I can sum it up with this sentiment - the people creating Magic the Gathering have abdicated any responsibility for maintaining its ecosystem. This game is risking its social function by walling off its game pieces both financially and temporally. Pointing to pauper formats as a real alternative is the nerd version of "let them eat cake". The difference between saving for Legacy staples as a budget player, versus having the liquid assets to acquire Secret Lair sets with unique cards before they are no longer available, is self-evident. I hesitate to throw around terms like "classist" because this is a game we're talking about here - but let's be real, this is a fucking game we're talking about here. One kind of player will be able to acquire some rooks, the other kind will not. Nothing about this sits well with me.

This reminds me of the comic bubble from the 90's where they were making limited super special collectable print runs of comics, but no one cared because Super Man No1 was only valuable because of its sentimental value and they're trying so hard to force the next alpha-beta level mtg colelctable and all it's doing is pissing off the fans.

First strike and vigilance make sense, but how does one acquire lifelink in a "real world" setting? Are people healing themselves by beating up other people?

I have an unhealthy obsession with collecting White cards and I think I need me some Rick. No way am I going to purchase this Drop, but damn. The corporate take over of Wizards seems complete. I think this may actually bode well for the abolition of the Reserve List. If Hasbro is indeed going to milk Magic for all it's worth, then they must cash in on reprinting everything. Legal action be damned!

I guess? I mean lifelink doesnt heal the humans themselves. It heals YOU.

    But what are YOU?

Still a O% percent chance I buy this trash unless it literally has Ancestral Recall in it.

Haven't watched anything, but vintage fish has used Cold-Eyed Selkie for years now.
Is skulk that much better than islandwalk?
Can't imagine that 3 toughness makes the difference.

I would play atleast a couple of Dusk//Dawn in that list (both flavorful and powerful).
