When a copy of a spell is placed on the stack via Isochron Scepter, would that trigger Pyrostatic Pillar's ability? Thanks.
Isochron Scepter does not put the spell on the stack. It allows you to "play" a copy of the spell without paying it's casting cost. Even if it's still a copy, the specific wording of Isochron states "play". This is a bit different than things like Twincast, which work differently in the Comprehensive Rulebook "When you are given the opportunity to copy a spell, you place a copy directly onto the stack" (shorthanded explanation)
This will trigger Pyrostatic Pillar.
Taken from StarCityGames:
Q: Will activating Isochron Scepter trigger Pyrostatic Pillar?
A: The answer the question you're asking is no, but the answer to what I think you're asking is yes. The activation of Isochron Scepter doesn't trigger Pyrostatic Pillar because Pyrostatic Pillar triggers when you play a spell (with converted mana cost 2 or less). That being said, the activation (or more correctly, the resolution) allows you to play the spell Imprinted on Isochron Scepter. When you do, Pyrostatic Pillar triggers. *long worded explanation*
