IIRC they were tests for potential new card frames for the 8th Edition frame switch. R&D had batches printed up so that people could see and play with them.

These frames ultimately ended up not making the cut.

I think Foil English is probably easier to make a coherent theme to a deck. Russian wasn't printed for a lot of the older staples.

Nice, idk then. I personally am not big on foils, I tend to just go with first available printing, English, non-foil. Haven't pulled the trigger on Beta duals, but have most of the other staples (Bolt, StP, Counterspell, etc).

Foiled out English would probably look nice. Really just FOW and the Duals would be unfoilable.

If you went non-foil Russian I guess you'd have to pick a 2nd language for Force and Brainstorm, maybe match them to your fbb duals (German, French, Italian)? A fully German/Russian deck would probably be considered pretty pimp.

One of these things is not like the other, one of these things just doesn't belong. So yeah I'm happy to have picked up three signed Brainstorms this weekend. The current frames are definitely better. Most of these exist with two versions, with the mana cost on the left, and mana cost on the right. There're some Legacy staples that exist as test prints in this strain, although these aren't legal for play. Most people have seen some of the green/red stuff that leaked onto ebay, but there's quite a bit more.

Some notable T1 cards in my collection. Picked up that Alpha Ruby a few weeks ago and that Beta Lotus a few months ago. Going to hold onto the singed UNL one for sentimental reasons. Not sure if I'll get rid of the UNL Ruby either since it was my first piece of power. I paid $100 cash for it over 10 years ago.

The Fastbond, Wheel, Mana Vault, Pearl, and Ruby are Alpha. That Mana Vault is pack fresh and I wonder if I should even play it.

When Mark Tedin was in town for the Besieged Pre-Release I had some cards signed but opted not to get the Drains and some other expensive stuff signed. Note that in order to get him to sign at the bottom of the card you have to ask specifically. Otherwise he signs in the middle of the card which looks horrible in my opinion. I hate when artists sign in the middle. Garfield does that too. I have a bunch of Tedin cards signed on the bottom which sort of makes them unique in that respect.
