    3cb #7

3CB #7 is open for entries! Congratulations go to Xero, winner of 3CB #6. Decklists and results for previous 3CBs can be found at the wiki. Please add your results for 3CBs #3-5 if you entered, this time for reals. The wiki password is "3cbthesource". I'll fill in the remainder once much of the results are in, but I'm sure as hell not going to do all of it myself.

Entries for this round close at 23:59 EST on Friday, November 16th. I'm thinking of making this a regular weekly thing -- entries close on Friday, next round opens right after while people calculate and discuss the previous one. What do you think? To enter, send your deck by email to thesource3cb at gmail. Preferred format for submissions:

(3CB #7 Entry title of email)
    GoatDoom deck name

    Black Lotus first card
    Goatnapper second card
    Sacrifice third card

With Lorwyn, the terrible reign of DoomGoat is at an end. All hail our saviour, the Doom of Goats. notes, comments, flames, taunts, theological thermodynamic dissertations

My username is UncleMonkeyFucker. be sure to include your username if it's not the same as your email address
DO NOT PM ME! ENTRIES SENT BY PM WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED.

I won't even log in to the account until the deadline has passed, but if you're paranoid, I'll be posting the MWS security code for my own deck within the next few days and you can wait for that.

Lorwyn is legal! Thoughtseize is not.

    -- Rules of 3CB --

Your deck is composed of 3 cards which all start in your hand.
Your library contains 0 cards and you don’t have a sideboard nor own any cards outside of the game. (Wishes fetch nothing.)
Random effects always go in your opponent's favor. (This includes Chaos Orb and Falling Star. If controllership of something with random effects changes, they go in favor of the player who doesn't own it.)
You can see your opponent's hand, so you make the best possible play. (If both players' taking an action would cause that player to lose the game, then neither player takes any action, and the game is a draw.)
You don't lose as a result of not being able to draw a card. (If cards are put in your library, you draw them as normal. Effects which require you to skip a draw work as normal.)
You play each opponent twice; once going first and once going second.
For each win, you score 3 points.
For each draw, you score 1 point.
For each loss, you score 0 points.

Three rules restrict the kind of deck you can send. They are:
    1. You may not submit a deck that can win before the opponent's first main phase.
    2. You may not submit a deck that can force an opponent to lose more than one card from his or her hand in a single turn.
    3. You may not submit a deck that uses a card on the 3CB banned list.

Other than the aforementioned, everything is handled exactly like a real game of Magic.

    -- 3CB Banned List --

    All Ante Cards
All Promo cards not available on Gatherer/Autocard
All Unglued and Unhinged Cards (excluding basic lands)

I definitely would like to see it as a weekly event ! I don't think the format would get boring, since it allows for some different strategies, and thus for a changing metagame...like, virtually no-one expected the last two winning decks (LotusLotusDefiler, LotusVaultSwallower) !

Why e-mail submissions rather than PM? The latter is much more convenient, and I think would increase turnout.
Early one morning while making the round,
    I took a shot of cocaine and I shot my woman down;
I went right home and I went to bed,
I stuck that lovin' .44 beneath my head.

    Re: 3cb #7

Because I'm not an Adept and only have room for 20 messages in my inbox -- of which 13 are, at the moment, already taken. (Turnout often exceeds 20, anyways.)

Otherwise, yeah, I agree. It'd be nice.

EDIT -- So, the MWS security code for my deck is 9D0BCFD6.

Ask the mods to give you a bigger one to help these tourney.

I'd like to try this, but I don't think there is anything I could come up with that hasn't already been tried. Could I just post a sample list in here of something I think is viable and maybe get some feedback on why it's not, or should I just send you the list no matter how janky it turns out to be?

probably the latter. janky decks are fun and if your deck did great then thats fine and if it didnt you will get a feal for the format and do better next time.

Done. I didn't even look at past lists. I didn't want to be influenced in any way. Like I said it's nothing too clever. We'll see how it pans out.

It's customary to calculate your points, rather than speculate.

If I had had access to a computer sometime between last night and tonight I'd have edited my list. Ah well.

    1 - Black Lotus, Glowrider, Preacher - DD - 2
2 -Chandra Nalaar, Black Lotus, City of Traitors - LL - 2
3 - Black lotus, Delerium skeins illegal! (replace with basic land of choice), Nether spirit - WW - 8
    4 - Black Lotus, Glowrider, Preacher - DD - 10
    5 - Skittering Skirge, Peat Bog, Diabolic Edit - DD - 12
    6 - Mishra's Workshop, Chimeric Idol, Wheel of Torture - LL - 12
    7 - Dreadship Reef, Mishra's Factory, Confiscate - DD - 14
    8 - Black Lotus, Mana Vault, Sky Swallower - LL - 14
    9 - Black Lotus, Treasure Hunter, Oblivion Ring - DD - 16
    10 - ID
11 - Isamaru, Hound of Konda, Karakas, Aether Vial - WW - 22
    12 - Mishra's Factory, Snow-Covered Plains, Swords to Plowshares - DD - 24

    Here's mine.

    6. Illissius - Idle Torture
    Mishra's Workshop
    Chimeric Idol
    Wheel of Torture

    vs.

    The World

    01. 3-3
    02. 6-0
    03. 6-0
    04. 3-3
    05. 6-0
    06. N/A
    07. 6-0
    08. 0-6
    09. 6-0
    10. 6-0
    11. 6-0
    12. 6-0

    Total: 54

This really is a strong deck, it seems. So many decks just can't handle a consistent clock of three damage per turn (or rather, a second one after they deal with the first). Didn't expect all the Glowrider decks, nor this drawback of Chimeric Idol; would've been better off using Steel Golem.

As usual, add your results. Wiki, password 3cbthesource.

    18. Wow. Note to self: Planeswalkers suck in 3cb. I thought I was doing alright for a while until I realized that all those decks with recurring/unkillable 2/2s could just assign their damage to Chandra, and kill.

I think (some of the) Planeswalkers could do pretty well in a storage land deck, alongside Tabernacle or Maze or something.

    9. etrigan - In That Order (Discrepancy)

    Black Lotus
    Treasure Hunter
    Oblivion Ring
    WW: 36 points
This how I think it goes:
    1m: factory
    1y: Lotus hunter
    2m-6m: charge d reef
    2y-6y: beat for 14
7m: yoink t hunter: begin factory beatdown
    7y: O ring hunter
    factory ftw?
(if you just play the lotus, then I will eventually be able to confiscate it)

    10. SpatulaOfTheAges - Disco Super Fly (Discrepancy)
    Black Lotus
    Swamp Masquito
    Maze of Ith
    WW 42
If you just play the ith; I will eventually confiscate it: otherwise similar to match above?

    Re: 3cb #7

@etrigan: It's DL for you, not WL. If I play Glowrider on the play, you can't do anything, and if I play it on the draw it trades with Hunter since you can't Ring it.

I have 29 points, disappointing as I got beaten by very basic decks (like Plains, Factory, Swords...). I was expecting a lot more of the good decks from the last rounds, like Defiler, Swallower, or Bridge/Tongs...

By the way...what is the Aether Vial for in the following deck ?

    Isamaru
    Karakas
    Aether Vial
    georgjorge
    Geistreich sind schon die anderen.
