I like Darkblast because sometimes it also clears chaff on top. We're not running 4 Ponder 4 Brainstorm, so sometimes you just need to dredge away some garbage. Also, that instant-speed -1/-1 can be very helpful, and with Liliana, it means you're bringing down every non-protection X/2 you see, not just X/1's. Deathrite is relevant, same with instant-speed Snapcasters, YP, etc. The value is there, and I've been liking it. Not saying it'll stay forever, but so far, so good.

I really, really like Chill for a few reasons. 1) We have a few burn players at the local store, a couple Big Red players, and some Lands players. I really like Chill against Fires (since it's hard to disrupt otherwise), and against Burn it's really good. I feel like Chill is a nice "set it and forget it" against those decks that also splash red for value (like Czech Pile), and I really don't want to end up in a Stack War over a Kolaghan's. I'd rather just make all their crap, including their Blasts (which is generally their trump over BUG), be very unsavoury. Plus, do they waste their Decay on Chill (or multiple Chill) or my Liliana? Etc. BEB is good as well, but I want to test Chill.

I think Ground Seal is really really good against Pile, but maybe Spellbomb is the way to go.

I think sometimes, Forest does suck, but you really want it against all the mana denial decks.

    Gotta run! :)

Alright, you sold me. I can't resist standtill and deeds in a single deck, I am trying this in our weekly! I'll start with what you laid out here, then we'll see where it goes!

    Yup, the bone.

So what is the Miracles matchup like? I'm close to having this built, and if it's good enough, I'll pick up the extra Lilianas.

    What are the best/worst matchups?

I've had a lot of fun against the Delver decks (although sometimes they just get you). Czech Pile is also fun to outgrind. Combo can be quite good.

I haven't played much against Miracles post-ban in all honesty.

    Re: [Deck] UBGx Landstill

    New configuration:

3 Liliana of the Last Hope

    3 Jace, TMS

    4 Force of Will

    1 Counterspell

    3 Spell Snare

    4 Standstill

    3 Fatal Push

    2 Abrupt Decay

    2 Diabolic Edict

    2 Toxic Deluge

    2 Pernicious Deed

    1 Life from the Loam

    1 Sylvan Library

    3 Snapcaster Mage

    2 Verdant Catacombs

    2 Misty Rainforest

    4 Polluted Delta

    2 Island

    2 Swamp

    1 Forest

    4 Mishra's Factory

    1 Bayou

    1 Tropical Island

    3 Underground Sea

    1 Cabal Pit

    //

    3 Chill

    3 Surgical Extraction

    2 Duress

    2 Null Rod

    2 Flusterstorm

    1 Golgari Charm

    1 Cursed Totem

    1 Night of Soul's Betrayal

    -----------

Not much testing yet, but I hated not having Decay in the main a few times. Wasteland is great, but I was never locking anyone out, and I wanted my mana stability a bit higher especially running more basics. Pit is a nice treat against Mirran Crusader and Mom. It's possible I need more DnT hate, but so far so good. I could run Dread of Night x2, but I want Elves hate as well.

WP. Care to elaborate a bit on MUs, card choices etc.? Would you change something in your 75s? How well is a UB version positioned and why you decided to sleeve it over BUG?

Guys, I would absolutely love a revival of landstill... I basically quit the game because I felt it was no longer viable. If a workable shell came forward, I would love to help refine it.

    Regards!
    i am building this deck, i have a few question;
what about tombstalker? 2 black, maybe too slow vs combo deck, is he really good? i was thinking about -2tombstalker +1 liliana the last hope +1counterspell maindeck, or maybe +1vendilion, thinks about that?

For the last couple months I played JackS2's list with a minor change: -1 Snapcaster Mage, -1 Fatal Push, +2 Search for Azcanta. I really like that card. The deck went on a pretty good tear against fair decks (except DnT, Aether Vial is hard), never lost to the locally-popular swarm of UW Miracles players and won almost every game vs. Delver and Stoneblade variants. Had a rough time against anything playing Chalice, and while I could never beat Lands or Dredge, I had good matchups against Reanimator, Show and Tell, Storm and Aluren.

Tombstalker was great in almost every matchup. It can really skew sideboard plans in fair decks, and it's the only way to quickly close out against combo decks.

Having also played BUG versions of Landstill, the access to Abrupt Decay and Pernicious Deed improves matchups against Chalice and Aether Vial, but the more awkward manabase and CMC-specific removal leads to more problems vs. the Delve menace. I think it's a metagame call.

    Re: [Deck] UBGx Landstill

I think it might be a good direction to take. Landstill is historically weak against Eldrazi. That would be my first concern. Against other decks, Standstill and a Loam engine, backed up by Pernicious Deed feels good, especially as the meta is going to slow down.

This could be a list that comes to mind:

    3x Snapcaster Mage

    1x Pernicious Deed
    4x Standstill

    2x Abrupt Decay
    4x Brainstorm
    2x Counterspell
    2x Fatal Push
    4x Force of Will
    2x Spell Pierce

    1x Bayou
    2x Creeping Tar Pit
    1x Island
    1x Lumbering Falls
    3x Misty Rainforest
    4x Polluted Delta
    1x Swamp
    2x Tropical Island
    3x Underground Sea
    2x Verdant Catacombs
    3x Wasteland

    2x Jace, the Mind-Sculptor

    4x Innocent Blood
    1x Life from the Loam
    4x Ponder
    2x Toxic Deluge

    Re: [Deck] UBGx Landstill

Hi guys a former BUG Control player here.
I'm new to the 'Standstill' archetype but it really looks interesting and promising to me in the upcoming meta.
My first attempt is this list:

    Land [23]
    4 Polluted Delta
    2 Verdant Catacombs
    2 Misty Rainforest
    3 Underground Sea
    2 Tropical Island
    1 Bayou
    1 Island
    1 Swamp
    1 Forest
    3 Mishra's Factory
    3 Wasteland

    Creature [3]
    3 Snapcaster Mage

    Planeswalker [5]
    2 Jace, the Mind Sculptor
    2 Liliana of the Veil
    1 Liliana, the Last Hope

    Counter [8]
    2 Spell Pierce
    2 Counterspell
    4 Force of Will

    Cantrips [8]
    4 Brainstorm
    4 Standstill

    Removal [11]
    3 Fatal Push
    2 Abrupt Decay
    2 Innocent Blood
    2 Pernicious Deed
    2 Toxic Deluge

    Other [2]
    2 Life from the Loam

    Sideboard [15]
    4 Surgical Extraction
    2 Flusterstorm
    3 Hydroblast
    2 Thoughtseize
    2 Diabolic Edict
    2 Pithing Needle

I have some questions for you guys:
    1) How much does the deck rely on Wasteland loops with Life from the Loam? I like the idea of the mana denial plan and additionally have more ways to get our fetchlands / manlands back from the graveyard. That's why I currently run 2 Life from the Loam.
    2) What are your thoughts on colored manlands just like Creeping Tar Pit and Lumbering Falls? Are they too slow for this deck?
    3) Why do a lot of the older lists run 2-3 Chill in the board? I'm on 3 Hydroblast right now because I expect a lot of Moon Stompy in the upcoming meta.
    4) Do you think my list needs more 'explosive' wincons e.g. 2 Tombstalker? If yes, which finisher would you suggest?
    5) Are 5 planeswalkers enough or do we want to run 6? Do you have better experience with Liliana of the Veil or Liliana, the Last Hope? Or do we want to go up to 3 JTMS?

    Thanks for your answers!
