If a creature has wither do all of the counters get placed on a creature and remain when it goes to the grave yard or just enough to kill the creature. Example: My opponent attacks with a 5/5 creature with wither. I block with a dusk urchin with 0 counters on it. Would I draw 6 cards (1 for blocking and 5 for damage) or are the counters removed when state based effects are checked but before the creature goes to the grave yard?
You would draw 6 cards. You would get one counter from his ability. State base effects are check and he doesn't die. Then 5 counters are put on from the creture with wither giving him 6. State based effects are checked and he dies and you draw 6 cards because it has six counters on it.
