Asthereal's scores for round 7:
1. Asthereal (TO): Plains, Plains, Caravan Escort, Kami of Ancient Law
That's me, on holiday so not much time to build a proper deck. Let's just recycle.
2. Reeplcheep: Plains, Akrasan Squire, Akrasan Squire, Healer's Hawk
Yeah, this is not what I had in mind when designing this. 0-6
3. GoblinSmashmaster: Forest, Quirion Ranger, Priest of Titania, Vorstclaw
Big dude is big. 0-6
4. Wrath of Pie: Blossoming Sands, Forest, Selesnya Evangel, Qasali Pridemage
If I attack, you can chump eternally and attack back with a 3/3 (exalted is good). If I don't attack, you just grow your army. 0-6
5. H: Island, Sea's Claim, Slither Blade, Sigil of Sleep
This and alpha's Cocoon deck were what I designed this deck to beat. Sadly my deck seems to stumble against the others. 6-0
6. alphastryk: Forest, Gladecover Scout, Ornithopter, Primal Cocoon
Again, this is what I meta'd against. 6-0
7. maxx!: Mountain, Swiftwater Cliffs, Mogg War Marshal, Sparksmith
This blows up my guys. Nice deck! 0-6
8. Tylert: Forest, Mountain, Bond Beetle, Horned Kavu
See below. 2-2
9. FTW: Seat of the Synod, Sea's Claim, Gearsmith Prodigy, Mana Chains
Yay, another matchup I get to win. 6-0
10. silkster: Plains, Ivory Giant, Soldevi Sentry, Oppressive Rays
EDIT: Oppressive Rays is a really nice find, but Kami can kill it, thankfully. So I get to stall and draw twice. 2-2
Total: 22 points
Against Tylert
A: Plains, Escort
T: Beetle
A: L1 (2/2)
T: Kavu, return Beetle
A: L2
T: Beetle again, put counter on Kavu (4/5), attack (A=16)
A: L3
T: Attack (A=12)
A: L4
T: Attack (A=8)
A: L5 (5/5 fist strike)
From here, if I attack with the 5/5, you attack back and win the race, so it's a stare down.
OTD I am one turn slower, but still in time to level up to a good blocker for the draw.
Join the 4 Card Blind competition!
Can't believe I scored 4 points already. Was aiming at Zero with removal and sea's claim still being around...
Not sure about easily racing.
OTP life totals
20/20
22/18
24/15
27/15 (i sac flyer to stop growing, i stop chipping by saccing dude)
He kills in 9 turns, i kill in 8 so he can't race.
He waits one more turn:
20/20
22/18
24/15
26/12
29/12 (i sac flyer to stop growing, i stop chipping by saccing dude)
He kills in 6 turns, i kill in 6 so he can race.
So he wins if he waits an extra turn for the 4/5

H: Island, Sea's Claim, Slither Blade, Sigil of Sleep
1. Asthereal (TO): Plains, Plains, Caravan Escort, Kami of Ancient Law
Yeah, figured you'd still be on this, but took the risk. 0-6
2. Reeplcheep: Plains, Akrasan Squire, Akrasan Squire, Healer's Hawk
Seas's Claim ought to be good here. 6-0
3. GoblinSmashmaster: Forest, Quirion Ranger, Priest of Titania, Vorstclaw
Not really here, but Sigil will work. 6-0
4. Wrath of Pie: Blossoming Sands, Forest, Selesnya Evangel, Qasali Pridemage
But Sea's Claim back here. 6-0
5. H: Bye, myself.
6. alphastryk: Forest, Gladecover Scout, Ornithopter, Primal Cocoon
EDIT: Actually, as FTW points out, I can race the Scout on the Play, but on the Draw my clock is actually too slow so I have to play for the draw. 4-1
7. maxx!: Mountain, Swiftwater Cliffs, Mogg War Marshal, Sparksmith
Hmm, well, Sigil is pretty good vs. Tokens. I guess I can race it though? I'm not really sure, honestly. Maybe 6-0?
8. Tylert: Forest, Mountain, Bond Beetle, Horned Kavu
Sigil or Sea's Claim should work. 6-0
9. FTW: Seat of the Synod, Sea's Claim, Gearsmith Prodigy, Mana Chains
Yeah, this is just better in the pseudo-mirror. 0-6
10. silkster: Plains, Ivory Giant, Soldevi Sentry, Oppressive Rays
Going to have to take the double Draw here though. 2-2
Looks like 36, as it seems that the Echo cost on MWM means I can race it.

The echo is what kills me. When I'm OTP, I can play 1 creature before Sigil starts bouncing. I play Mogg War Marshal (if I play Sparksmith you just bounce it every turn and I never get anywhere). You play Sigil and then bounce my token, putting me to 20, then on my turn I either have to pay the echo or sac MWM. If I pay, I can attack, but then you bounce MWM and my board is empty again, so I only get 1 attack for every 2 attacks you make. If I don't pay the echo, then I can play Sparksmith, but then you can bounce the second token and now I can't ever make progress. Sparksmith becomes active but there aren't enough Goblins left to kill Slither Blade, and you can bounce it on your next attack anyway. My best line is to play MWM every other turn and always pay the echo, but that only lets me get in 10ish attacks before I'm dead. I'm fairly sure you 6-0 me
Turns out I should've played Goblin Instigator just for this matchup. I think that'd be 3-3 due to the lifegain land. Oh well!
Ironically the worse card is better for you in this matchup because Echo costs you too much tempo. Otherwise you can swing back for 1 per turn (forcing him to bounce the Sparksmith every turn to avoid activation), which is enough to race OTP thanks to the lifegain land.
I should have had more faith in my own Sea's Claim deck! I figured it would lose to the pseudo-mirror, draws one to Primal Cocoon, and loses to any of Asthereal's enchantment-hate brews, so I stole silkster's version instead... but Slither Blade 6-0'd everyone else!
Edit: I think you WD to alphastryk. I had this matchup before. OTP he plays Gladecover Scout. You're forced to Sea's Claim to stop Primal Cocoon, which allows him to attack for 1 before Slither Blade comes down. Then you can't race (and it's Hexproof) so you have to block to draw.
Standings for round 7
1. FTW: 38 - 4,2
1. silkster: 38 - 4,2
3. H: 36 - 4
4. maxx!: 29 - 3,2
5. GoblinSmashmaster: 26 - 2,9
6. Asthereal (TO): 22 - 2,4
6. Reeplcheep: 22 - 2,4
8. Wrath of Pie: 20 - 2,2
9. alphastryk: 19 - 2,1
10. Tylert: 4 - 0,4
Which leads to these bannings:
Gearsmith Prodigy
Ivory Giant
Mana Chains
Oppressive Rays
Sea's Claim
Seat of the Synod
Sigil of Sleep
Slither Blade
Soldevi Sentry
Standings in the season look as follows:
1. FTW: 26,2
2. H: 22,2
3. maxx!: 21,6
4. silkster: 20,8
5. Asthereal (TO): 17,9
6. GoblinSmashmaster: 16,6
7. alphastryk: 16,5
8. Wrath of Pie: 16,1
9. Tylert: 15,5
10. Moosedog: 12,5
11. Reeplcheep: 5,8
So FTW succesfully defends his lead, and some gaps are starting to form in the pack.

ROUND 8 of SEASON 7: PAUPER BANNATHON has started.
I have PM'ed myself my deck for round 8, so you can start sending me your decks.
DEADLINE: Wednesday the 19th of August, at 11:00AM Central European Time.
(That's my time zone. Pacific Time it'll probably be something like Tuesday night a bit past midnight, so keep that in mind.)
PLEASE NOTE:
The way you send your deck to me matters. Please send it in the way described below, so it doesn't cost me an hour of editing before I can post all the decks.
Please send your deck as follows: Swamp, Swamp, Terror, Dauthi Slayer.
So with card tags around each card, and not above eachother, and with your Username and 4CB S07R08 in the topic.
Don't forget to keep an eye on the banned list. You'll find it in the second post of the thread, or in our Google Spreadsheet.
After the deadline has passed, I will post all decks on the forum here, and you can start puzzling out your scores.
If you have any questions, please read the first two posts of this thread first. If you can't find the answer there, drop a message here. We'll answer a.s.a.p.
Also, if you've been lurking on this thread and looking to join, you can step in anytime, any round. That's no problem at all. Just send me your deck before the deadline, and I'll add you to the competition.
Happy deck designing everybody!

Sorry for the late check-in. It seems like this round wasn't so hard to calculate though. I'll just put my commentary.
Me: silkster: Plains, Ivory Giant, Soldevi Sentry, Oppressive Rays
1. Asthereal (TO): Plains, Plains, Caravan Escort, Kami of Ancient Law
Enchantment removal coming in hot. 2 points
2. Reeplcheep: Plains, Akrasan Squire, Akrasan Squire, Healer's Hawk
It took me too long to appreciate how good Vault Skirge was, so it was long banned before I would have played it. I find myself looking longingly at Vault Skirge, but I somehow never looked to Healer's Hawk. Fortunately for me here, I have the removal. 6 points
3. GoblinSmashmaster: Forest, Quirion Ranger, Priest of Titania, Vorstclaw
Quirion Ranger does really well against Sea's Claim and wrecked me a few weeks ago, so I started packing removal. 6 points
4. Wrath of Pie: Blossoming Sands, Forest, Selesnya Evangel, Qasali Pridemage
I Oppress the Evangel, and the Pridemage can't both clear it and start the chain. I feel lucky to win this one. 6 points
5. H: Island, Sea's Claim, Slither Blade, Sigil of Sleep
This deck is still so beautiful, though I have a hard time playing decks that I think people are expecting. Unfortunately, my removal is coloured, so I can't make a threat first. 2 points
6. alphastryk: Forest, Gladecover Scout, Ornithopter, Primal Cocoon
I feel honoured. 2 points
7. maxx!: Mountain, Swiftwater Cliffs, Mogg War Marshal, Sparksmith
I started out as a dedicated Elf player, but I was turned on to goblins by the flavour texts of the Onslaught goblins. It's nice seeing Sparksmith, and but glad I have an answer for it. 6 points
8. Tylert: Forest, Mountain, Bond Beetle, Horned Kavu
4/5 is bigger than we see most of the time, but removal does its thing. 6 points
9. FTW: Seat of the Synod, Sea's Claim, Gearsmith Prodigy, Mana Chains
I would feel honoured, but this is the second week in a row that FTW has played my cards to a much better result. I pride myself on craftsmanship, but I bow to the superior handling of weapons. 2 points
I had been sitting on all these cards for quite some time, and I missed quite a few opportunities. My first four decks were all different colours in alphabetical order, and I liked the poetry of finishing it off with white in week 5. Alas, I out-thought myself and missed out on a 44 point week, with just the right combination of cards to punish the Vampire Lacerators, which were promptly banned. Still, 38 points is an excellent week.

Great deck!
I had Ivory Giant + Oppressive Rays in my gauntlet for a few weeks, but I couldn't find the right 3rd card for it so it stayed on the bench. Everything I came up with couldn't beat a single removal spell or Sea's Claim/Evil Presence. Soldevi Sentry is a really smart way to play through Sea's Claim, have a 2nd threat around removal, and still have a 2nd answer vs multiple threats. Nice find.
The utility of a colourless creature was something else I learned from losing to Vault Skirge. I remember opening Soldevi Sentry in packs and being disappointed that it wasn't quite good enough for my proverbial kitchen table (which was actually my bedroom floor). It only took 24 years to find its moment to shine.
Both players agreed on this, but I'm going to ask anyway cause I want to know what I'm missing. Vorstclaw comes down on turn 3, and unchecked kills on turn 6. Even when Team Evangel goes first, it makes 0, 2, 1, 1, 1, 1 power on the first 6 turns. That means that Team Evangel can never kill the Vorstclaw and must be on the chump block plan forever. This leaves the Pridemage and 2 saprolings just hanging out with nothing to do, but they can't attack because Quirion Ranger can untap the Vorstclaw to block. No side can ever make progress. So, what am I missing?
I didn't look too closely at that before, but you seem to be right.
Even if Team Evangel somehow had enough saprolings for 7/8 in P/T (killing Vorstclaw with 1 Saproling surviving), he would then lose to attacks from Quirion Ranger and Priest of Titania. But killing Vorstclaw isn't even possible. Lack of trample prevents the win but doesn't stop the draw.
WrathOfPie vs GoblinSmashmaster OTP
W - Sands [W=21]
G - Ranger
W - Pridemage
G - Priest.
W - Evangel. Pridemage attacks for 3 because it can. [G=17]
G - Priest makes 4 mana b/c broken: Worstclaw.
W - No good attacks into a 7/7.
G - Attack with 7/7. Wrath takes it and EOT makes a token. [W=14]
W - No good attacks, since Vorstclaw can untap to block.
G - Attack with 7/7. Wrath takes it and EOT makes token #2. [W=7]
W - No good attacks.
G - Attack with 7/7. Wrath must chump, tapping Evangel and a Saproling to make token #3.
Since 2 creatures need to tap before blockers to make this 3rd token, Wrath has at most 5 power and can never kill Vorstclaw.
W - No good attacks. Vorstclaw can still untap to block.
Infinite loop with Vorstclaw attacking every turn and Evangel making a token to chump it. Neither player makes progress.
DD 2-2
That doesn't change any bannings but it does change their very close positions in the season standings.
Looks correct to me. I'll adjust the standings.
Also, about 24 hours until the deadline. Don't miss out!
