[Podcast] Lone Star Legacy: War of the Spark Set Review

Hey all, Sean here with the latest episode of Lone Star Legacy. In this episode Ben and I spend time going over some of the biggest players from War of the Spark, then make our predictions on how many times each will top 8 in the months to come.

    https://lonestarlhurgoyfs.com/2019-0...st-WAR-Review/

Our criteria for top 8's includes all tcdecks.net of 64+ person tournaments that take place between now and the next standard legal set. You can find the audio file and our predictions in the link above, then stay tuned for our follow up podcast in a few months where we revisit our predictions!

No. That's why it's a podcast and not a tweet.

I thought it was a documentary not a podcast?

What is your point here? Other than some indignation that I'm showing insufficient reverence for their effort for using completely the wrong medium to convey their information?

What’s the right medium to convey this information? Smoke signals, messenger pigeon, song and dance routine?

Probably something with pictures so I can see what they're talking about without having an encyclopedic knowledge of magic.

Having to do additional work to listen to the show kinda supports my point that this is "the wrong medium".

Hey bud, thanks for taking the time to respond. I think a lot of content creators including ourselves have come to the same conclusion about podcasts, and that is that they're one of the best ways to disseminate large amounts of information despite being limited to audio only. Nobody's going to argue that podcasts are the perfect medium, but in this instance I do think it's one of the better options we have when compared to more traditional formats such as video, written article, or even a stream (which all have their specific strengths and weaknesses.)

In regards to us not providing enough information about the cards in question, that's totally fair criticism. Ben and I do our best to read out the text of cards we think people might not be familiar with, so this is definitely something we want to hear about. Would you mind sharing a couple of instances where you felt it would've been beneficial to share the relevant card text with the listeners?

If you're still looking for that TL;DR, I'd like to point you to the 13 cards listed in the time stamps section on the website. If you're interested in any of our opinions on those cards, feel free to skip to the relevant portion of the podcast to check them out. Thanks for your feedback!

I don't know how you drew this conclusion, and I don't really want to labor the point so I'll just leave you with this.

Every card after the first two, which I was only familiar with because I had been explicitly looking for new post toys during spoiler season. Every other card you mentioned once or twice and then if I didn't remember exactly I'd be lost for the rest of the conversation. A point the two of you ran into yourselves when you had to re-explain to eachother what the white DRS hatebear did. If, during your own show where you choose ahead of time what content to present, can't remember the details of the cards how are we, the listener. A camera pointed to gatherer would have been an 100% improved experience.

Well at least we can agree we're not here to argue this. Great song btw.

Idk man, seems like legacy players are pretty good at memorizing cards on the fly. Every time you run into a new card in the middle of a tournament you have to read what the card does, process that information, then retain it and play around that card for the rest of the match. I don't think I'm giving people too much credit when I assume they don't need to be looking at a new card to know what it does.

You seem dead set on the hottest takes as for why you're using a dated medium but this is another bit of opposite-of-reality.txt: This is why you take notes during a match, and why players are not required to know cards by name even when playing cards that explicitly require you to name cards.

I have no idea why you're dragging this guy so hard. It's okay to not like podcasts for card reviews, but frankly you are the one with the "pOdCaStS aRe A dAtEd MeDiUm" spicy take here.

Just a note about Karn and Batterskull. You can use karns +1 ability to make the Batterskull into a creature making it fall off the germ and then after the turn it no longer can bounce or reequip

Also Both Karns can kind of play off of each other. New Karn can go get card exiled by old Karn which is pretty neat
