View Full Version : Deck help
Another one of those decks threads.
Well, my friends have been disliking Magic recently and it mostly is because they just don't like to play the decks that I and them have built. They aren't too serious about Magic, but they still like to play. Most decks that I have are really not fun for them (control decks, enchantress, combo). I would really like to put together some more decks that would be easy and fun to play for them and me because I do love playing aggro.
So any help with picking out two decks to build (preferably aggro orientated), would be great. Nothing like stompy decks, something consistent.

I usually play U/G madness in a casual game. It is one of my favorite decks ever, and is alot of fun to play.
How about "When Elves Attack"?

I still want it to be competative for tournament play. Just easy and fun also.
I have thought about elves but haven't come up with a decent list since Eladamri got hosed. I would run that but that is so meta specific with all the artifact hate.

I'd recomend to your friends some hot Stompy action. I've played Dragon Stompy for like two months recently, and just today switched over to Elephant (terrible name but some folks are calling it that - just read that as mono-green) stompy. It's a pretty fun deck (I still haven't gotten over the novelty of using the combat phase) that, when built and meta'd correctly, can be competitve.
Also, none of that "Oh, shit, I have to dump my hand every turn" trash related to D-Stompy.

It's not really budget, but Goblins is a hell lot of fun to play, and very competitive.
Aggro loam is also consistent, fun and it beats face with huge Lhurgoyfs and giants.
Otherwise, Raffinity.

I have Dragon Stompy right now but it is just a boring deck after playing it for a while. He hated not being able to cast Slogger every 1st turn. I have tried Elephant Stompy ( I prefer Trinity Green, myself). My list wasn't what I liked because I would have definitely played MD 4 Harmonize. Do you have a list?
@ Ichorid
I would like to play this, but I also want him to be able to play it and have fun. Ichorid is kind of difficult to just pick up and play. It isn't as interactive as I would like either.
I am kind of debating between RGb Goyf Sligh (with all the good stuff and MD Confidant and SB Thoughtseize/Therapy), Trinity Green, and Elves. Any more suggestions/lists?

So you want something that fits an aggro roll, is fun to play, but can still be competitive? Why not Affinity, it'll still steal some games every now and then in tournaments, and can be very fun for the casual players.

I completely forgot that deck existed :eek: . I have no idea what list is best however. Vial? Drum? Goyf? Bob? Fling? Atog? Do you have a list that you use and test?

What about Death and Taxes that deck pure fun especially against goblins postboard, when you can vial in tivadar of thorn and bounce it back.

Here's the list I'm currently playing:
// Lands
4 [DS] Darksteel Citadel
4 [MR] Vault of Whispers
4 [MR] Seat of the Synod
2 [DS] Blinkmoth Nexus
4 [MR] Tree of Tales
// Creatures
4 [DS] Arcbound Ravager
4 [DS] Arcbound Worker
4 [MR] Disciple of the Vault
4 [MR] Frogmite
4 [MR] Ornithopter
4 [MR] Myr Enforcer
3 [FUT] Tarmogoyf
// Spells
4 [FD] Cranial Plating
3 [TSP] Chromatic Star
4 [MR] Thoughtcast
4 [LRW] Springleaf Drum
// Sideboard
SB: 4 [SOK] Pithing Needle
SB: 4 [DK] Tormod's Crypt
SB: 4 [PLC] Seal of Primordium
SB: 3 [MR] Chalice of the Void
Goyf gives an out to artifact hate, and it's overall a good beater. If you want to remain on the budget side just go with -3 goyf-4Tree of tales +4 Furnace +3 Atog/Fling/Shrapnel.
Also, here you can find all the lists that top8ed lately:

Here's my Elephant Stompy list copypasta'd from the thread. It smashes face with big green creatures, so they should have a blast with it. It's not the most consistent deck in the world, but as long as you tell them to mull if they don't have a green source or if they have only one or two mana, they should be fine. It's also the most pound face least control version of Chalice aggro.
10x Forest
4x Ancient Tomb
4x City of Traitors
4x Elvish Spirit Guide
3x Garruk Wildspeaker
4x Chrome Mox
4x Tarmogoyf
4x Spawnwrithe
4x Call of the Herd
3x Briarhorn
3x Chameleon Colossus
4x Chalice of the Void
3x Sword of Fire and Ice
3x Umezawa's Jitte
3x Harmonize
Sideboard:
4x Hail Storm
4x Choke
4x Pithing Needle
3x Krosan Grip

Sligh or RG Beatz are quite good in the current meta and are running very smooth. Sligh could be build mono :r: for a very low price and thanks to Magus of the Moon and Price of Progress it can win a fair amount of matches in a Legacy event. Especially sligh is a very splash friendly deck for casual: Goyf or Confidant + Discard or Lightning Helix + Swords or even Fire/Ice + Draw (okay now we are at rogue level...).
I can give you some decklists if you like.
@Affinity: I would play it without green. Just UBR with 2 Atogs, Shrapnel Blasts and Flings and no Vials (tempo loss). We tested it lately and it was surprisingly good and stable thanks to Springlef Drum.
Just wondering if anyone has played with DreadnoughtAffinity by Lukas? It looks fun and just as fast. How consistent is it?
