I wasn't sure where to post this, so I apologize if it's in the wrong place. Anyway,

I haven't really been playing Legacy for about a year, and I'm looking to get back into it. I've been looking over the DTBs and such and it seems like the only real major changes have been the additions of Tarmogoyf and to a somewhat lesser extent Counterbalance. However, there was a deck that I really enjoyed playing, and which never, in my opinion, saw an optimized list, that was based on using Auriok Salvagers and Lion's Eye Diamond to get infinite mana to recur a Pyrite Spellbomb for lethal damage. It used Gamekeeper as a way to get Salvagers and get things into the graveyard, and played as combo/control to make up for the relatively slow speed of its winning combo.

What happened to this deck? Was it never good enough, or did folks simply get bored and stop working on it? Does anyone play it? Or does anyone have a list designed for the current metagame?

Thanks in advance.

The combo was just really slow and disruptable. Storm combo just got faster and more resilient while that deck still got hosed by Thresh and Landstill. The Game pwned fast aggro, but Goblins and such have gone down in numbers. There are probably other reasons too, but the deck may be able to still be playable if people put the time into it.

It's really, really easy to keep a land on top of your deck with Counterbalance.
