View Full Version : Oracle wording on Oracle?

Ok, ok... so this is a stupid one, but I was playing a Vanguard game with the card Oracle. It's important text says:

Oracle
You may untap any attacking creatures you control and remove them from combat.

My question is this: Can I put dmg on the stack and then remove my creature from combat? I assume so.

Damage on the stack didn't exist when Vanguard cards were printed.

Since Reconnaissance, from Exodus, has a similar wording and its reminder text specifies that creatures "withdrawn" with it do not deal or receive combat damage (and the card text was updated to 6th Ed. rules accordingly), I would personally take the stand that creatures "withdrawn" with Oracle do not deal or receive combat damage either.

They seem to be going with the intent of the card, which is to prevent combat damage.

Reconnaissance's ability is functionally identical to Oracle's, so you should go with that wording.

The ability as written though prevents all damage that turn, even from future combat steps, which I doubt is intended.
