I had another idea to make a blue one that does Spell Snare, but it seemed kinda crappy.
EDIT: This one has to be the crappiest 'mancer of them all:
urinomancy, urimancy, uromancy
Divination by interpreting the characteristics of urine or a medical prognosis based on the examination of urine to diagnose diseases.

Hmm, there's indeed a lot of possibilities:
Grim Frostmancer
U, T, Remove two cards in your graveyard from the game: Tap or untap target permanent. If you tapped a permanent this way, it doesn't untap during the controller's next untap step.
This one might be a bit janky, but whatever, he could get used in a casual tapping deck. Does the mancers need to stay tournament worthy? Even Legacy worthy? Because then it's pretty tight with possibilities to keep the mancers flavoured for what they do: Creating a small effect that can lead you into card advantage by removing two useless cards.

Desolate Threshmancer :ub:
Creature - Human Wizard
When Desolate Threshmancer comes into
play, if you played it from your hand, put the top
seven cards of your library into your graveyard.
1/1
"Dig deeper and you'll find me...waiting."
I like this anyways. You don't necessarily have to tap a colored mana symbol. Ovinomancer, anyone?

I hope there wasn't a rule about making duplicately named mancers....
Deranged Acutomancer :wb:
Creature - Lunatic Wizard
:w: [Tap], Remove two cards in your graveyard from the game: Put a permanent -1/+1 needle counter on target creature.
:b: [Tap], Remove two cards in your graveyard from the game: Put a permanent +1/-1 needle counter on target creature.
...One more should do it...?
1/1
I was going to do straight +1/+1, -1/-1 but I thought there needs to be a little more balance to keep the flavor of acupuncture. I also like the idea of tons of needle counters on a creature!
Vile Anthropomancer :wb:
Creature - Human Wizard
:wb:, http://resources.wizards.com/magic/images/symbols/tap.gif, Remove two cards in your graveyard from the game: Destroy target permanent that shares a card type with each removed card. (The card types are Artifact, Enchantment, Creature, Land, Instant, Sorcery, Tribal, and Planeswalker)
He's not afraid to dirty his hands. Or his soul -- Nicodemus Iscariot
1/1
He's a little out of the color pie in that he gives black access to Artifact and Enchantment destruction, but black has to get two artifacts or enchantments in its yard which is a serious hoop to jump through. I guess he could be G/W, but then we lose the awesome flavor (Anthropomancy is divining with human entrails) and the neat color pie bleed. I worded him as such so that you could remove an artifact and a creature to destroy an artifact creature. Could be pretty good in a block with lots of cards of multiple types.

Mystic Pyromancer :ur: 1/1
Creature - Human Wizard
:ur:,http://resources.wizards.com/magic/images/symbols/tap.gif, Remove 2 cards in your graveyard form the game: Choose one: draw a card or tap target permanent or deal 1 damage to target creature or player.
Eternal Regrowthmancer
G
Creature - Wizard
1, [Tap], Remove two cards in your graveyard from the game: Return target, noncreature, nonland card from youre graveyard to youre Hand. Play this ability whenever you can play a sorcery.
Only time will tell who´s the better magician
1/1
I like this one, but why have a restriction on what kind of card you can return? I think needing three cards in the yard every time you activate it is restriction enough.

Grim Fortunemancer :r:
Creature - Wizard
:r:, Tap , Remove two cards in your graveyard from the game: Damage that would reduce your life total to less than 1 reduces it to 1 instead.
Attacking Goblins cannot be stopped but pointing in the opposite direction and screaming CHARGE in a high pitched voice usually throws off a good chunk of them.
1/1
This would make a concept like Fortune Thief actually playable on a creature. Make it Legendary, give it a goofy name and its a Mythic Rare!

Grim Macromancer Hybrid Mana U/R
Creature - Human Wizard Shapeshifter
1 U/R Hybrid, Tap, Remove two cards in your graveyard from the game : Grim Macromancer becomes a copy of the creature with the biggest power and toughness sum until of turn. It gains all its ability, includes creatures type. It has haste.
Templating is very messy, sorry... But flavour is : Quick, I must become something ! Oh, the biggest thing I can see. Go for it ! (because macro yeah you know that)

07-17-2008, 02:42 PM
I think you want something more like this;
1:u/r:, remove a creature card in your graveyard from the game. Grim Macromancer becomes a copy of that creature until EoT.
The ability doesn't do anything if the mancer is tapped, so scratch that cost. Removing Haste effectively means the same thing as tapping, since becoming a copy of the creature makes the copy ability go away for a turn, and now the card can't do that much (in theory) without waiting to untap for a turn.
You could have it remove two random cards and then copy a creature in play, but this way is more flavorful/internally logical, I think.
frolll
07-17-2008, 03:35 PM
Yup, removing haste seems to do more sense. Only thing is, it could become less than a 1/1, so it won't *always* morph into something bigger, thus making the name, if copying a, say, Ovinomancer (0/1 FTW), a little weird IMHO.
But, that's total nitpicking ^^
TheInfamousBearAssassin
07-17-2008, 03:38 PM
In that case, it might make more sense (and be more balanced, and less a Volrath's Shapeshifter knockoff) to have it be simply, "Gains that creature's p/t".

Well, I think we have a winner at least as far as flavor text goes.

GG to Skeggi =)
As far as my card is concerned : yup, going for P/T alone is prolly the best thing to do. Having the 1/1 blocking a Goyf and killing it by means of GIGAPEDING itself, that's get me hard :o (but less than EATING Saffi ^^)

Ya, I'm realizing how stupid broken some of them are. We're taking a card that had the equivalent of being a recurring Shock and turning it into things like Vindicate or Stifle. It's pretty sweet.
I do really like a cantrip version. A simple 1/1 for U that had the U,T: Remove two blue spells in your graveyard from the game and draw a card. And yes, I'd specify it has to be blue spells, just to be an ass and make it harder to use.
EDIT:
So he got really fat? So he's like a 1/3?
Not necessarily, rather than building up bulk, he studied and ate the minimal necessary to survive in health. Consider him the runt of the pack.
These are the ones I feel could be printed, with some suggested changes in bold.

Card type restrictions removed, and colored mana required to activate.

This one is too powerful for Legacy, but would probably be okay in Standard which is all Wizards really cares about.
A simple 1/1 for U that had the U,T: Remove two blue spells in your graveyard from the game and draw a card. And yes, I'd specify it has to be blue spells, just to be an ass and make it harder to use.
If we decide to actually have a vote, right now I'd vote for Eternal Regrowthmancer with my suggestion. It seems good, but not too good as it requires you to work a little to use it. I'm also partial to my own submission, and calling it a "recurring Vindicate" is a gross oversimplification, as there are several hoops to jump through in order to use it.

grim chantmaster :w:
creature - human wizard
:w: T, remove two white cards in your graveyard from the game: target player cant play spells this turn. When you play this ability you may pay an addittional :w: and remove another white card from the game, then that player cant attack this turn.
The sound of the mancer's chant was so hypnotizing that even the greatest wizards became his slaves.

something like this i had in mind, maybe not so good because you have to remove many white cards but still not that bad i think:laugh: maybe the card is not perfectly worded, maybe someone can make it better worded?

Holy busted with Haste, Batman!
I would find a way to put this guy in EVERY deck I could even remotely splash black for. A tutor effect anytime I'd want it at the cost of 3 life and B? Done deal.
...and two cards out of the yard. Even so, it's still too good.
