View Full Version : [Brainstorming] Abyss + Nether Void

These seem like two amazingly strong disruption spells that no one really plays. I guess they are too expensive and symmetrical maybe? Anyway, I like their synergy with manlands, so I set out to build a deck around them and would like some thoughts:

I really don't know much about Stax decks, having never really piloted one, so I'd like some input. Also, should I be running Smokestack (instead of removal spell I guess)? Are there enough wincons or should I consider Juggernaut or some suck?

Any help is appreciated.

The Abyss and Nether Void are both World Enchantments. You can't have them both in play at the same time, sorry.

Also incidentally, free removal might like Nether Void, but it decidedly doesn't like Trinisphere.

Firstly, given the cost and scarcity of both the abyss and nethervoid I doubt this deck could ever be played in large numbers even if it was the new Goblins or Thresh.

Secondly, the Abyss (unless they have errated it) targets non artifact creatures so non-targettables and tubbies (su-chi, juggernaut, and friends) are not affected. So it can be a very lopsided card.

I have seen Nethervoid decks a long time ago usually configured in Bg with the green for deed and a HEAVY but standard disruption package of duress, hymn, sinkhole, wasteland, etc.

My initial instinct is this will die to Landstill as the abyss does nothing, and they are content to do nothing for a while and get into a man land battle (I do see you can have potentially more assembly workers though), then when their deed hits you scoop, but that is for your testing to determine.

Just to keep this thread alive: you can try to substitute the abyss with call to the grave. Has a nice sinergy with mutavault.

@ Elfrago – Good Call! (groan…)

I used to run Nether Void in a black green land destruction deck as the lock piece. I also ran Drop of Honey as part of my crowd control package. Which leads me to the possibility of a white splash for Vindicate and perhaps Porphyry Node: the Node is not nearly as effective as Call but might be a good addition to it, and its single white CC is very attractive under Nether Void. Trinisphere in unnecessary under Nether void. If You wanna run Trini, think about, darn Auld-timers disease, that old artifact that makes everything cost 1 more.
