View Full Version : Comic-con abandoned by WotC... kinda

Last year they had Standard, Extended, and even Vintage, so I brought a few decks to San Diego. This year, it's all Pokemon.
The strange thing is that when you pick up your badge, your loot bag has a 30-card preconstructed Magic deck and a rules overview sheet. There are five different mono-color decks each featuring Planeswalker art on the box cover. I opened a green one and it had 2 uncommons (Overrun and Blanchwood Armor), 15 commons, and 13 basic land. Nonland cards are 10th with a smattering of Lorwyn, and the land are 10th.
So new set coming out this weekend, Magic freebie for every attendee, but no organized play of any kind. Hmph.
P.S.: Any other Sourcers here?

I'm usually there, but not this year. That's odd that there's no organized play, usually they've got the Amateur Championships plus side events of all formats.
I wanted to go but apparently you have to buy an entrance pass to even be there. I just want to play magic...

Yes, you do have to purchase a pass to get in, but that's totally worth it, especially if you are going or multiple days. Comiccon is amazing, and there is a bunch of things to do, besides play in events.

Yep I'm there. I've been there for the last two days and pretty dissapointed that wotc isn't there. I guess Hasbro wouldn't let them set up a booth because of some violation. That's what one of the Pokemon tourney organizers had told me.

Yeah I was wondering why they didn't have a booth on the exhibitor floor. I was going to look in the Hasbro store, but you need to stand in line to get a ticket to stand in line to see that booth. Yeah, you heard me.
All told, this has been pretty awesome. It's my first Comiccon, and we just did two days, but I got to see some cool artists and filmmakers. The panel of Kevin Smith, Judd Apatow, Zack Snyder, and Frank Miller was as awesome as that list of names implies.

They did a lot of stuff like that this year because last year the firemarshall really cracked down on ComicCon. Last year it was too overcrowded and 'bulks' of people were lingering everywhere to the point other people had to seriously go out of their way to get around lines like these.
This is also why the tickets this year were so limited.
I stand by safety first. It would have been a total disaster last year if something serious would have happened at the convention (fire, earthquake, etc).
That's why it's important to plan out your escape routes (and note what booths to hit/raid/loot/pillage as your sprinting towards the exit during a catastrophic event). What's the point of duck and cover during an earthquake when you can bolt to the emergency exit with an Alienwhere computer?
I'M JOKING! Please duck and cover... don't be that guy....
