Rebuilding a Collection for Legacy, Priority?

I was fairly into magic several years, started to lose interest around Od block and started during Tempest block. My overall thoughts on rebuilding my collection to be more organized and restart playing competitively:

1) Finish off my duel lands set
2) Establish a fetchlands play set

Followed by:

1) Gofy playset
2) Finishing off Force of Will Playset
3) Pithing Needles play set

*Meant Legacy, my noobish bad!*
I have play sets like Mishra's Workshops, Wastelands, and the like that are older.

What else do you consider universally staple considering the more expensive/rarer cards? Right now just really want to establish a general buying target for the next few months->year realistically.

Ya, meant legacy. Sorry always got those two confused. I'm used to using the terminology Type 1 or 1.5 back in the day. :tongue:

Been reading up/scouring various boards. Right now just looking mainly to do Legacy and then with more greenbacks play both 1/1.5. But trying to get a main idea trying to tier a what to get list.

Honestly, besides duals, fetches, and goyfs, there's not a ton of staples that you need in my opinion. Sure, each color has really good cards, but if you're never going to make the right kind of deck for them, what's the point? I think the best idea is just to decide what you want to play (Maybe something that has lots of reusable cards), and go from there. A lot of staples doesn't get you a deck =P

Engineered Explosives

Magus of the Moon

...and to a lesser extent, for storm decks:

Lion's Eye Diamond
Orim's Chant

Everything else is farily cheap and/or readily available.

In terms of purchasing order, I would argue that a set of fetchlands is more useful than the complete set of duals. Many decks will play as many of the appropriate fetches as possible, but only say two or three of the appropriate dual lands in order to keep room for basic lands.
If you are not interested in getting back into Vintage, the Workshops are banned in Legacy and can allow you to pick up much of what you are looking for now.

IMO a bunch of FoW is a good way to start your collection, pretty much every deck with blue runs them. Apart from that, just try to find out what kind of deck fits you the most and go with that, that playset of workshops should get you pretty much a complete deck.

Trollandtoad sells Mishra's Workshop for three hundred dollars. They have Goyf for $32, FoW for $25, Pith. Needle for $10. IDK if their prices are reasonable, but if you could sell Workshops on ebay for 250/pc, then you have $1000 at your disposal. This makes either:

- 100 Needles
- or 25 FoWs
- or 31,25 Goyfs

Or playset of each and $700 score. :eek:
