We all know what happened to Vintage in June at the B/R announcement, as evidenced at the Vintage Worlds held during the US Nationals. And I foresee a Restriction of either Bazaar of Baghdad or Mishra's Workshop this September.

But that's an entirely different format. Let's talk about Legacy.

Does anyone else think that Brainstorm, Ponder, or Merchant Scroll are in danger come September?

And isn't it about time Illusionary Mask and Worldgorger Dragon came off the list?

The biggest reason for banning Illusionary Mask already has a work around, as demonstrated by Dreadstill. And as for Worldgorger Dragon...with Entomb and Bazaar of Baghdad banned in Legacy, how viable could a Dragon combo deck be? Could it outrun TES, Fetchland Tendrils, Iggy Pop, or Solidarity?

And before some brings it up...yes, Oath of Druids and Hermit Druid must stay banned.

I doubt anything will change. Nothing really dominates or is even close to broken. They may bring stuff off, but I doubt it will affect Legacy at all.

Rien, nil, nada, ingenting, nulla, nothing.

At most a couple of other very safe unbans, like Earthcraft.

I highly, highly doubt they will ban anything, and I really hope they do not. (There are several cards which are personally annoying to me and I would smite them if I were God, but nothing which says "OMG I'm ruining the format, ban me now!").

If they unban anything it should be Land Tax, Earthcraft, maybe Dream Halls. All Dragon could do is spawn another stupid combo deck, so I'm against that idea. (Same with Dream Halls, but I think that's about as hopeless as Mind Over Matter was so it feels safe).

Despite Stifle+Dreadnought not being broken, adding Mask to the mix might break it. I still love this list:

4 Enlightened Tutor
3 Trinket Mage
4 Phyrexian Dreadnought
4 Illusionary Mask
4 Stifle
4 Counterbalance
4 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Brainstorm
4 Force of Will
1 Engineered Explosives
1 Pithing Needle
1 Crucible of Worlds
1 Nevinyrral's Disk
4 Wasteland
2 Academy Ruins
4 Polluted Delta
4 Flooded Strand
3 Tundra
3 Island
1 Seat of the Synod
SB: 4 Meddling Mage
SB: 4 Swords to Plowshares
SB: 4 Tormod's Crypt
SB: 2 Crucible of Worlds
SB: 1 Academy Ruins

I can't see Earthcraft coming off, with Squirrel Nest legal. Not saying it would be overpowered right away, but I wouldn't put it past some of the most creative members of our society to come up with some stupid degenerate deck.

I think Illusionary Mask and Worldgorger Dragon would be safe unbans. I'm also thinking Land Tax as a possibility.

What do you all think about Mana Drain as an unbanning?

But without Dragon's two biggest tools (Bazaar of Baghdad and Entomb), the deck would slow down A LOT. Buried Alive and possibly Life // Death could substitute, but it would take a few turns to generate enough mana to win the turn you put the Dragon in the bin.

And don't forget, Extirpate is around now and a well timed Swords to Plowshares (or any other Instant speed creature removal) can completely wreck their side of the board and just let you waltz all over them. Yes, it could spawn another stupid combo deck...but nothing on the level of the current combo decks (aside from Dredge) because it revolves around a single creature, which is a very strong weakness in a creature-oriented format.

The reason, in my opinion, that Dragon was so strong in Vintage for so long was because Vintage revolves around spells, not creatures. So there was little/no creature removal around to castrate the Dragon combo during the combo. And, as mentioned above, that was before Extirpate. Now for the bargain price of one black mana, you can complete neuter the deck as soon as the Dragon hits the bin.

My predictions:

Mana Drain is unbanned.
Imperial Seal is unbanned.
Earthcraft is unbanned.
Illusionary Mask is unbanned.
Dream Halls is unbanned.
Land Tax is not unbanned because it's unfun to play with.

Tarmogoyf is banned.
Lion's Eye Diamond is banned.
Grindstone is banned.
Survival of the Fittest is banned.

I doubt we'll see a single change.

(Hopes for Land Tax anyway)
