After this round Im going to delay the start of the finals by a day or two to gauge the opinions of the Top 8 players on the two subjects brought up by Nihil Credo in the Discussion Thread

So, we're one round away from the playoffs. I think it would be a good time to discuss a couple of options for the Top 8:

1) Playing matches as best of 5 games rather than best of 3 games, like at high-level tournaments. Normally people like making games less dependant on luck and lopsided matchups... unless they're playing Ichorid or Belcher, that is ;)

2) Publishing lists before the Top 8. I think this is unnecessary, since this is done in real-life tournaments to blunt the impact of scouting during the Swiss rounds, while the ability to scout is very limited online. But I feel this should be discussed nonetheless.

Let's hear what you have to say on the matter.

The round ends August 21th at 10:00 P.M. GMT -5

I don't know about the percents or anything, but the ranking is determined by points. You get three points for winning a round, one for a draw, and none for a loss. Those are then added together and compared against everyone's totals.

Well yeah, I got that =P I just needed to know how tiebreakers work, since 6 people would already be ahead of me even if I win. Seems to be the number of matches (on average?) my opponent's have won? Or at least, something along those lines.

Did Dapug drop via PM? I'm doing some tiebreaker math, and I noticed he disappeared from the pairings.

Just out of curiosity do some of you use MSN, Skype, or AIM when playing your matches? I Don't know the software inside and out so it takes a lot longer to do the simplest things. Being able to say it quickly has been a great way to speed things up and make them less stressfull durring games. Less typing and clicking, and more communication.

I would love to play in one of these tournaments but I hate feeling like the slow one.

The first column is the percentage of matches your opponents have won, the second is your percentage of games won, and the third is your opponents games won percentage. The first is the main tiebreaker, and the next two applied in order if necessary.

You will need at least 16 points to get in, so you are out...

The first 3 tables can all draw in, after that it all depends:

Table 4
If Van Phanel wins he's in with 17, if not then Giles will have 16.
Table 5
Phamtom It won and has 16 points.
Table 6
This is the important table, if mathewCURBSTOMP wins the he will have 16, if not then Valtrix will have 15 and is out.

So if Van Phanel wins then Phamtom It or mathewCURBSTOMP, (if he wins) will be in. If Van Phanel loses then Giles, Phantom It and mathewCURBSTOMP (if he wins) will all have a chance at the last 2 spots.

Not quite.

Actually Eldariels tiebreakers are so bad that he can't really draw as he'd risk being 9th if mathewCURBSTOMP wins. This changes a lot.

If tables 2 and 3 do really draw, you are correct, if they don't then one 15-pointer might get in (if mathewCURBSTOMP loses). So, Valtrix: you have a tiny little chance to get in but only if Eldariel doesn't draw, or one of the tables 4 or 5 do draw (for whatever reason).

Not that it really matters as our outcomes should have little impact on the top tables, but Rack and I started last night and after winning the first game and starting game 2, he needed to go and submitted a concession.

If he posts and follows up that he's fine with that, then cool, i'll take the win. But again, i don't think it matters much.

Wow, Alot of people have not posted results yet. Im figuring that this is all either byes or people losing interest due to a realization they cant make top 8. If there is anymore people then I Suggest you hurry and post results.

Also...

The top 8 rounds will be best of five, and I will be collecting everyones decklists (I will post them all when the Top 8 is over). I believe I am going to wait 1 day to collect decklists and reveal who made top 8 and the final standings in the next thread.

Edit: THE SWISS IS OFFICIALLY OVER. Thread to come shortly.
