Is it a basic land? Nope, so yes you can waste it. Being a creature doesn't matter, just like you can wasteland an animated mishra's factory.

It has a type normally associated with basic lands (Forest), but it's not a basic. To be basic, it would need the Supertype Basic. Compare Sapseep Forest (Land - Forest) to Forest (Basic Land - Forest).
