Continuing the tradition of my fascination for Green control decks (I am a blue player at heart, though I do love toying with strange colored control decks), I thought about the viability of Legion Land Loss in Legacy. Here are some old decklists for Legion Land Loss lock down and Legion Land Loss aggro for reference.

LLL-lockdown
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Fyndhorn Elves
4 Yavimaya Elder
2 Argothian Wurm
2 Terravore
4 Wall of Roots

Other Spells:
4 Thermokarst
4 Winter's Grasp
4 Creeping Mold
4 Smokestack

Lands:
4 Rishadan Port
2 Dust Bowl
18 Forest

LLL-aggro
Creatures:
4 Fyndhorn Elves
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Masticore
4 Wall of Roots
3 Yavimaya Elder

Other Spells:
3 Call of the Herd
3 Creeping Mold
3 Hidden Gibbons
4 Thermokarst
4 Winter's Grasp

Lands:
3 Dust Bowl
11 Forest
4 Rishadan Port
2 Treetop Village
4 Wasteland

Since the lists look like they were made before Mirrodin block, what cards can we add/replace to make the deck usable in the current Legacy meta. As we know, Legacy uses the most efficient spells in the format, which makes most decks functional with only 2 land. This can potentially hamper some of the lists of old since destroying land does not necessarily hampering a deck's game plan. The old lists also look like it would easily roll over to combo and a timely sweeper(Powder Keg, Deed, and Engineered Explosives) from other control decks. Any modifications I can think of just starts morphing it into a copy of my Monogreen Chalice Control deck. So are there any thoughts on how to improve it, or is this particular deck just not viable in Legacy?

For reference: The most popular version of LLL from the Albany area that has somewhat survived into Legacy, though it could use some updating, was piloted by the ever interesting person Frank D'aloia. It was something along the lines of...

// Lands
12 [A] Forest (1)
3 [UL] Treetop Village
3 [US] Gaea's Cradle
4 [TE] Wasteland

// Creatures
2 [TSB] Spike Feeder
4 [SH] Wall of Blossoms
4 [MI] Wall of Roots
2 [AQ] Triskelion
4 [IA] Fyndhorn Elves
4 [A] Llanowar Elves
4 [NE] Blastoderm

// Spells
4 [TE] Cursed Scroll
2 [VI] Creeping Mold
4 [IA] Thermokarst
4 [B] Ice Storm

If you read this, Frank, I'm basing this off memories of playing at the guild 4 years ago ... so I'm pretty sure I've botched a slot.

Anyways, I liked this style of approach because it set up a pretty decent early defense behind Walls so that what threats landed could be blocked while the land disruption got going. Scroll cleared the critters away for Treetop/Elf/Blastodrm/Trisky beats and if the ground clogged up than let the chumps fly while scroll shocks your opponents head for the win. It wasn't a very fast victory, but for the environment it slowed aggro decks down to a crawl and capitalized at shutting off their threat production.

I'm a bit tired, and will offer some opinions on perhaps some more card choices and such tomorrow, but I figured I'd offer up this list as another conceptual starting point as it's not quite an LLL Aggro or Lockdown variant, but it's still invariably a version of control until it can capitalize on the LD.

Moar tomorrow when I get home from work.

I play LLL regularly. Here's my list, for what it's worth, since I play in a very casual Legacy metagame. I must say LLL - LD in general - clearly lost a bit with the fetches.

//LLL
//24 lands
4 Rishadan Port
4 Wasteland
16 Forest
//19 creatures
4 Fyndhorn Elves
4 Llanowar Elves
4 Wall of Roots
4 Argothian Wurm
3 Spectral Force
//17 spells
4 Ice Storm
4 Winter's Grasp
4 Thermokast
3 Stunted Growth
2 Trinisphere
