Hallo,

I am playing the 42 Lands deck and I have problems with Extirpate, that comes after SB.

In this deck I have against that mainly Chalice of the Void for 1. But what I want to ask is how do you fight with Extirpate generally...

I donīt mean cards like Duress, Thoughtseize or Cabal Therapy.

Here are my sugestions:

1. Chalice of the Void - set at 1

2. Counterbalance + Top combo - countered when top card has CC 1.

3. Pull from Eternity - you return the removed card in GY (Mainly in Land deck for Life from the Loam)

4. Ground Seal - cards in GY canīt be target of spells or abilities.

5. Burning Wish - mainly in the 42 Land Deck - Get back LftL

6. WHAT NEXT???

Regards

RUN BURNING WISH MAINDECK!!!!! Seriously, not only do you get a Smexy tool box, but you also have an answer to Extirpate.

For 43 lands, maybe you put Living Wish in the sideboard and have Burning Wish maindeck? Would make Extirpate much less damaging. When you switch Living Wish in you put 4 toolbox lands in the sideboard, assuming that you're not already switching out some lands based on the opponent's deck. Then you have the insurance that even if they do something funky and transformational, like adding EtW, you still can get your Tabernacles or whatever back and use them.

I would really like to point out the savage combo of Ground Seal + Life from the Loam. You know. That might be important. For a deck like 40-X Lands. Just saying. How it's not a combo and all.

How does Extirpate wreck you? It isn't a card that should kold your strategy, and unless you're routinely getting Therapied by it it should be no big deal.

Chalice also deals with storm combo, which should be pretty bad matchup for you.

However, you should just run Burning wish if if losing your loamis all you're afraid about.

Hallo all,

Thank you for your answers. I am not talking about fighting the Extirpate just in the 42 Land Deck. That is also why I have written the Ground Seal, which is not a combo in that deck anymore with LftL.

Than why is Extripate wracking me? Because I donīt play the Burning Wish build. And if I get Extirpate on LftL, it hurts very much :-(

Now I am going to play RUb Painter/Grindstone deck and I know, that I will be facing a lot of Extirpates in the field. It will be really small tournament - 10 people.

Anyway I am asking of GENERAL dealing with Extirpate.

Thank you and keep going :-)

Play a deck where Extirpate just wont affect you, period. So in this case, play a deck like Aggro Loam or Eskimo Quinn, which are decks that Extirpate can't really wreck. Generic Aggro decks like Boros Deck Wins and Vial Goblins should do well against Extirpates as well.

Decks that have ways to go get key cards removed from play are probably best in an Extirpate heavy environment. If they Extirpate your win con you go get it back and if the Extirpate your wishes then they've given you tempo in the process because you don't have to go get an actual business card back.

Decks with Planar Void are obviously also going to be interesting, so maybe a deck with maindeck wishes and PV in the sideboard? Maybe even a deck that uses PV maindeck to turn it's wishes into tutors for the wishoard or regrowth rfom the RFG zone?

Duress, Thoughtseize, Orim's Chant, Abeyance, and Xantid Swarm work pretty well in combo decks. Generally, Duress or Thoughtseize are pretty good before you have the cards your opponent would want to Extirpate in your graveyard.

Xantid Swarm work pretty well in combo decks.

Yeah, for the metas that don't have creature hate or countermagic, sure. Otherwise, Xantid is just a filler.

The idea for living wish SB and Burning Wish MB was an intriguing idea, but I still don't really see how extirpate rocks your deck. Even without the loam engine, if you're playing the right build for Lands.dec, shouldn't you be able to pull a win out with Manabond and the rest of your lands?

You should really consider the power of Burning Wish. It's a staple card for a reason.

Xantid Swarm is a powerful option against decks that are highly unlikely to keep in creature removal games 2 and 3 unless they are already aware of Xantid Swarm. Decks like Black Thresh or Eva Green are unlikely to keep in any creature removal they have. This makes it a huge threat that can't resolve or it will render most of their hate useless.

Why would you board Xantid in against Eva Green? Their hate is all Sorcery speed, other than Extirpate, which is only a 4 of, and doesn't really do all that much.

Extirpate is the only card that really matters. Everything else I can work around (LD, Hand Disruption, etc) but in a deck like Iggy Pop/FT/Doomsday Extirpate is gg.
