View Full Version : Card Sites that Don't Suck?

In light of the other thread, is there a list of card selling sites that don't suck? Obviously ebay, but those sellers gouge on shipping and it's often not worth it to get one or two cheap items off ebay because you have to pay $2+ for shipping. Like, $1 cards with $2 for shipping? No thank you.
Cardshark.com: I use them for a lot of cheap commons and uncommons. You can also find people selling those same commons and uncommons in foreign or foil for fairly cheap. It's one of the good ways to get lots of foreign cheap cards, because most stores don't list them, and on Ebay you end up having to pay $3 to get them shipped from China.
StarCityGames.com: Obviously, they're more expensive, but they are very good with condition. If you buy a NM card from them, you can be damn sure it's that condition or better.
Smedlock.com: I've bought from them occasionally. They used to be "Free Shipping on US orders >$10" which was awesome, but they've sort of been supplanted because they're always second or third best in pricing when I check.
Cardkingdom.com - Easy to deal with, prices are kind of high. Have alot of cards that you can can pick up cheap because of condition.
Trollandtoad.com - .99 shipping for 30 cards or less. Have some foreign stuff.

I think ABU GAmes is worth mentionning too.
As far as I'm concerned, I only buy at SCG and ABU (ABU when SCG doesn't have the cards I want in stock).

I normally use coolstuffinc.com (http://www.coolstuffinc.com) mostly because I by now have enough money there to get 10% on most singles. I can't really comment on the shipping since I live in Europe (Portugal) so the values are different.

Most of the sites listed on http://www.findmagiccards.com are quite cheap and reliable. I've had great experiences with the site.

I would put that in the suck category.

Why? I've used ABU and I didn't think their prices were that great, but I didn't have a negative experience with them. I just always found cheaper sites.
I have shopped at CoolStuffInc before but their prices always seemed insanely high by comparison. I did buy a ton of Yanomen gunmetals from them; few other people had them at the time.

I had one bad experience with them, I ordered cards and sleeves and was going to be playing in a tournament on the day they arrived and they didn't send me some of the cards cards and sleeves, they refunded me the money, however they screwed me out of a tournament.

I had a rather poor expericence with them several years ago.
I bought something (Psionic Blasts), never received it, and it took forever to get my money back.
Very similar to your story with an older card jumping in value.

Full Moon Games (I think its called) I've ordered from a few times and has been good. Not a huge selection, but big enough, and generally fair prices.

For Europe I can recommend ManaMaze (www.manamaze.com) this guy is very customer friendly, and the site is very efficient. Plus it has an Asian-card search! UBAH!! Example of his customer friendliness: he once dropped an order personally in my mailbox so I would recieve it on time because I had a tournament soon; okay, I live close to Manamaze's office, but still, he really saved my ass there
Cardexchange (www.cardexchange.com) is reasonable. So is Djinn (www.djinn.nl) but they often don't have the cards you're looking for.
Nedermagic (www.nedermagic.nl) is a Dutch site which totally sucks bollocks (yeah this is the not suckingsite-thread, but I felt I needed to warn you guys: the cards are way overpriced, and the owner, Michiel Smit, couldn't give a rat's ass about his customers). I would advice not buying there unless it's the last place where they have the card available.
I've ocasionally bought something (moslty promo's) from strikezoneonline.com. They are expencive as hell, but they are reliable.
Starcitygames is in between. They are a little expencive, but not too much. They should really update their grading though. I once bought 4 cards which were avertised as Sligty Played. Well, they were a lot worse than slighty played. When we are talking about uncommons that's fine, but we are talking duals here.
Best site for me is still trollandtoad.com. They are in the same pricerange as SCG, however they are reliable in grading (sometimes they are a little off, but thats the difference between NM-- or Exc+) and have lot's of cool things in stock. Think Edgar, Wyvern backed cards. They are also very fast with shipment, sometimes it only takes 3/4 days for cards to arive (and I live in Eupore).

True thing. I have been active there for a very short time. I found out the guy even scans the emails you send from there (it has a very large online community included). When I send him an email about it, asking for an explanation how he knew things he wasn't supposed to, he simply deleted my account.
I met him in person once, the guy is a total dickhead,

I only buy cards from Nedermagic when I'm to lazy to try and fine them somewhere else, or when I'm looking for foils and shit they don't have anywhere else. The good thing is about the site are the trading possibilities, but that's about is.
Other good sites to me:
Cardexchange.com (already mentioned)
Cardvalley.com (has less than the above, but fair prices and shipping)

Same, ABU is a horrible collection of scum-oozing rippers who hide behind the anonymity of the Internet. I will never use them again, no matter what 'deal' they have and highly encourage people to not only boycott them, but mail them small, dead animals if possible....

It really depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for top end cards with a high value then you're better off going to findmagiccards.com, because you'll get a good 20% off the going rate at some reputable site there. If you're looking for filler cards and cheap rares I've found that between mtgfanatic.com, gamingetc.com and trollandtoad.com one of them will have what you are looking for cheap. You need to look at all three though because prices will vary within a fairly wide range.

I use Cardshark.com. Whenever there is any sort of competition between sellers, the buyer benefits.

In the past couple of years I have bought a little over $2,500 worth of cards from Card Kingdom and have yet to have a problem. Better yet, I tend to time my purchases of singles with the release of new sets and get some free packs. And once I figure in the free packs I find them the best value around.

I always buy at MTG Fanatic (http://www.mtgfanatic.com/). Reasonable prices (except chase rares/cards of course, which are always overpriced), good quality and they have a good stock of cards. I never had problems with them and shipping from the US to Europe is very reasonable.

I agree, I have had a lot of problems with miss-shipped orders and lost items. The only puls to ABU is they now offer free shipping.

I've put in something like 10ish orders from ABU. They don't have the best prices always, but sometimes have ridiculous deals on 'played' cards that are basically in great condition. The only time I ever had a problem, they shipped the wrong card. When contacted they not only shipped the correct card, but let me keep the $4 rare they shipped by mistake. Also they almost always have what I want in stock. Troll and Toad has good prices, but are almost always out of stock in what I want. SCG is OK, prices aren't bad, but aren't that great either. Plus I've found their stocks to be more hit and miss than ABU.
My friends and I have ordered from pretty much every site that I can think of. The only one that hasn't canceled hot cards and has been repeatedly worth a damn is ABU Games. Their shipping charges aren't cheap or anything, but they offer good, quick service. I get most of my stuff from eBay or MOTL, but if I'm going to risk buying anything from an online vendor anymore, it's going to be ABU Games 95% of the time. I buy and sell more than most people here, and they're the only store I'd trust.

For me, it's just been BlackBorder.com (http://BlackBorder.com) and StarCityGames.com. (http://Sales.StarCityGames.com.)
Never got fucked on either, though I don't do any investing or speculative purchases. I only buy the cards I need for decks and don't buy for any other reason. Otherwise, MOTL (http://www.magictraders.com) when I have the time to kill and don't feel like spending any $$ and eBay when I need anything > ~$15.
I buy from a ton of different places. Mostly Ebay for higher priced cards. Everything that is 5 bucks or under I will order from a store. Starcitygames, coolstuffinc, big fire ball, ccghouse, and ABU have all been good. ABU was probably the best. Cheapest prices, fast shipping. Coolstuffinc is more for supplies. Deck mats, boxes, dice, they have it all. Starcitygames usually has all the cards I need but recently have not had things in stock. CCGhouse is amazing as well. Cheap and usually have any card I need. I haven't ever had trouble from ordering from these stores.

I agree, I have had nothing but good experiences with mtgfanatic. They ship fast, really fast to the northeast, and they have pretty reasonable prices. Also they automatically enter you to win a booster box of the latest set with every purchase. I actually won a free box of Eventide, , that was awsome!!!
Also cardkingdom is pretty easy to browse and use, I like them too.

Our local store has their inventory online. Their prices are pretty average, but you can find some great deals, too.
supergamesinc.com (http://www.supergamesinc.com)
They're all good guys and have an extensive collection.
I also throw an additional vote for trollandtoad.com. I've been using them since before they had a website and have never been disappointed.

Findmagiccards.com is fine if you are actually going to pay attention to their rating, and what people have said in the last few months. A few of the more reputable stores went downhill for about a 6 month period, and some have gotten back into doing good business.
More often than not I use CCGHouse (if nobody else has them in), CCGBot, and StrikeZoneOnline when they end up having good deals. The first two I know personally, so I can usually get cards from them asap and always know what their inventory looks like, SZO usually has really good deals every now and then, especially on foils.
ABU has been getting hit rather hard lately on their feedback, but I think it's also because they are running a brick and mortar storefront as well as the online business, so they've been rather busy lately.
