Open the box or not?

Got 2 EVE boxes as compensation for Nationals and I'm doubting whether or not to open 1?

Basicly, do you guys think it's worth more sealed or not?
What Legacy Cards/Chase rares should I be looking for?

Specifically looking for the Legacy player's opinion, since this is the only format I play competitively. (EDH doesn't really count, you know)

Id sell them. You won't make back the price of the box by selling the singles you pull, that is assuming you can sell it at or close to retail.

EVE was a pretty bad set too, not much, if anything, you could crack to make it worth it.

You can draft them or do whatever crazy format you can come up with and have lots of fun with your friends.

Also, with this new set, you can conceivably determine what standard will look like in a year, so keeping some of the playables can be very profitable...

It wouldn't be nearly as profitable as selling the box now, but as someone who actually gives a shit about other formats, I can tell you that it is really annoying to have to buy things immediately after you've sold.

There are probably no boxes of any set ever printed that are worth more as their components than as a sealed product. Possibly Fallen Empires and Homelands would fall outside this rule of thumb but it's iffy.

Future Sight was worth more to open by a mile, as was Morningtide. Even if you missed a Tarmogoyf, there were about ten chase rares (including Venser, the rare lands, Slaughter Pact and Pact of Negation, and I'm sure I'm missing a couple off the top of my head) that topped out above $6 apiece. Morningtide had Colossus, Bitterblossom, Revillark, Mutavault, Countryside Crusher, and again a couple of others that made it profitable to crack boxes rather than sell sealed boxes.

Most of the time, the sealed product is indeed worth more sealed. But recent sets have given some exceptions to that.

Sell the sealed product. It's worth significantly more than the singles. That said, it's actually more profitable to trade the packs as parts of draft sets. Most TO's don't have a problem with dividing your compensation amongst the different sets (some actually prefer it, especially when a set is new).

Sell the box for $80, or trade 12 draft sets for between $96-$120.

If you care about money, sell it.

If you care about fun, do draft/sealed/pack-wars/some other fun limited format with them.

If you do wind up cracking (because drafting is fun or because you like playing the lottery), the two real chase rares are Figure of Destiny and Stillmoon Cavalier (although the Cavalier has been falling). Otherwise, the lands are reasonably high.

You have to take into account that there is a new draft format beginning in.... 2 days. Unless Shards draft sucks ass, Eventide won't go for that much as draft sets. Theoretically you are right, but the timing just isn't.
