Hello folks,
I'm new to these forums, but have been mediocre at legacy for a few years now.
I make usually decent plays these days and use good cards, however I don't make good deck choices.
Here's my flagship bad metagame decision, it's been a work in progress for years so I hope you like it!

Critters:
3 Psychatog
4 Dark confidant
4 Tarmogoyf

Getting what I want:
4 Brainstorm
3 ponder
2 Cunning Wish

Protection:
4 Force of Will
4 Daze
3 Piracy charm
3 Spellsnare

Bombs:
2 Pernicious Deed
1 engineered explosives
2 Umezawa's Jitte

Lands:
x4 Underground Sea
x4 Tropical Island
x4 Polluted Delta
x2 Flooded strand
x2 wooded foothills
x1 volrath's stronghold
x1 Forest
x2 Island
x1 Swamp

Sideboard:
x1 Berserk
x1 Skeletal scrying
x1 extirpate
x1 ghastly demise
x3 Krosan Grip
x3 Hydroblast
x2 Pithing Needle
x2 Duress

Match-ups
Well actually this is a new modification of a deck I had been playing previously that used Life From the Loam- this deck does not try to win that way. The matches that were hardest for that build were Ichorid and Loam gro. The reason I ran it was because I was expecting to beat the threshold, stifle-naught, and landstill decks of which there were plenty, and those indeed are the decks I have the most success against. How this build will do Is up for speculation which I look forward to.

This looks like an undeveloped "It's the Fear" list. You should check out that thread. They've dropped Psychatog as it's basically useless in this metagame.

Essentially, the effort involved in making Psychatog good isn't worth it because its role as a control finisher is handled mightily by Tarmogoyf and Goyf happens to also be a decent man when you're not winning the game.

That's sad. I like Psychatog. Is there no way to play Psychatog well in legacy?

PM Peter Rotten about Burning Tog, you might be interested in that.

There's also TarmoTog, which is somewhat similar to your deck. The thread is here (http://www.mtgthesource.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6230). Although, ironically, the latest lists have actually dropped Tog.

Matt might be more updated on this deck, but in its earlier incarnations it was my favorite deck. FTK, Fire Imp, and Fire/Ice simply don't cut it anymore in terms of removal. Your Threshold match (which used to be batshit insane good for you) now sucks because of.. you guessed it, Tarmogoyf. That dude is insane against you, because what are you trying to do? Put cards in the graveyard. I would be intensely surprised if Psychatog was a viable creature in any circumstance in Legacy. And believe me, no one would rather see it than me. Ask Deep6er, I love me some Togs.

So, doubts about the validity these days of psychatog in legacy aside, am I playing the right cards? Do I need to change my answers and draw spells? More of something, less of something?

I'll go ahead and say that I frequently see Ichorid in my metagame. One time four of the top 8 decks were ichorid.
Also present are a few loam-gro and fit decks, and there may or may not be a random burn or black aggro.

Most of the format is dreadstill, threshold-like decks, landstill, and every now and then the waters become goblin-infested. Really pretty diverse, but I'm going to have to say 40-60% of it is tarmogoyf aggro countrol decks.

It's hard to say, without changing the entire list and game plan. Counter-top is a huge boon for control in the current meta. Not playing it gimps yourself against the strategy, and most of the field. It's simply too devastating against so many decks to not run it in control. I wouldn't play Jitte, as you have so few creatures. Cunning wish is kinda clunky here. I would play more Deed, and possibly some good creatures. Blastoderm might be interesting to try, along with a singleton Gigapede.

Of course, several decks have already proven themselves in this color scheme, with It's the Fear coming to mind, along with U/G/b Thresh and Tarmo-Tog.

I'd run some (better) black removal over Piracy Charm. Either Ghastly Demise or Smother. And what the others said...

Thanks ya'll. I'll probably wind up taking out the wishes and the jittes as suggested, as well as the piracy charms for better answers. Cunning wish May also go out for something better, Perhaps counterbalance and such or a draw spell.
I'll think about taking tog out as well. However, Tog and I go way back. He's been good to me even in legacy though so he might stay in because I'm so sentimental. :P
