So, whats everyone's opinion of the Conflux leak from Japan? I found this thread on mtg salvation:http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=131996

Edit: Also, Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker!

If this is actually real, a spoiler of this magnitude before Alara is even released, then certainly some heads will be rolling over at wizards!
Awesome find. Too bad I'm not knowledgeable enough to guess if this is real or not. I do hope, if it's true, Nicol Bolas gets a cool card :)

It was almost certainly confirmed when the Conflux cards were shortly removed from the original text file.

Yeah, it basically has been confirmed. I just got finished with the thread upon posting this thread, and the consensus is that it is true. I just can't wait for the NBicol Bolas planeswalker card.. I hope to hell he does not get nerf'd...

I just hope his last ability isn't "Target player discards his or her hand," as that would be weak as hell.

Also, lulz @ this getting leaked. How many people just lost their jobs over this?

EDIT: Also,

Looks like the domain is registered to a Kaoru Yonemura in Osaka, Japan. Also looks like he runs tournaments there.
Moar liek he RAN tournaments there amirite?!

It's way too late for a card from this set to get nerfed. So don't worry, he'll be there : )

Sek'Kuar
09-30-2008, 07:29 AM
No, I know Nicol Bolas be there. I just hope he doesn't suck. And about running those tournaments, his license is getting pulled for sure. There's no way he'll be allowed to keep it. The interesting thing will be to see if Wizards publicly addresses this in either the Monday or Wednesday feature article. Especially since that would pretty much confirm it. We all know how much the company, and especially MaRo hates unauthorized leaks... As they said on Salvation, The last time something of this magnitude happened was when Judgement was put online. I'm pretty sure wizards will take much more care with their overseas contacts from now on. I also hope that we still get our Orb of Insight for Conflux.

That may have been a list for translation of the card names. But really, what good are card names. Ok, we know the reprints, we know there will be more Planeswalkers. That's it.

Well the reprinting of Worldly Counsel and Mana Cyclix indicates a return to 5 color nuttiness. Everyone saw it coming; either the shards reforming into a full plane or each somehow getting access to the off colors of mana, but this confirms it.

The names are neutral enough to be reprinted into coresets, which would be a pre for utility cards like fetchland. I'm not sure to be pleased with this. It would make deckbuilding a lot easier, however I think it will be pretty stupid, having 40 fetchlands to chose from.

Forty? How are you getting that?

Jaynel
09-30-2008, 09:45 AM
There would be 10 total fetches, and 4 of each could be played in any given deck.

Rupture Spire and Fiery Fall sound like red spells to me, though.

New expansion after Shards of Alara.

Oh. Thanks for clearing that up. I got the impression that it was some set that was going to be released in conjunction with Shards of Alara (similar to the Time Spiral/Time-shift release).

Yes, but why would he have this information at all?

Do tournament organizers in Japan usually get full lists of card names for sets 5 months prior to their release?

Something about this is suspicious. If that was a list distributed by Wizards that he just slapped up on the web, wouldn't you expect to see it on other sites as well?

This Conflux is to Alara what Darksteel is to Mirrodin right? Would they really print a set of fetchlands, which will be highly sought, in a small set? I think they'd put them in the big set. Besides that, Alara block has enough manafixing as is with just Alara.

I doubt that Enemy fetchlands would be released any time soon. It should be a long time coming if the lands are released to the general public.

I still need enemy fetchlands to complete U/G Madness as it already has problems without them.

They did put enemy filter-duals in a recent small set (Eventide).

Wouldn't it be more likely that these will be "enemy" versions of the current CitPT tri-color lands?

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. I just don't see them printing enemy fetch anytime soon either. The filter-duals are mweh, I mean, it's not Onslaught Fetch, and that's basically what it takes to make Legacy.

They did print the enemy pain lands in a small set (apocolypse) years after they printed the allied ones.

"Fiery Fall" sounds like a an instant combat trick, not a land.

I actually really like the Hybrid lands. While they are strictly not as powerful as the Fetches, they are still pretty solid. If it weren't for the two downsides (no colors on turn one, and no shuffle for Brainstorm), I'd certainly play them in decks like Madness.

Apocalypse Hydra = mortal incarnation of Progenitus? or the destructive incarnation? We know Progenitus IS a hydra, so it still fits.

Holy crap you're right. I didn't even realize that. Given that it's one name, with no title, I'm gonna guess its a planeswalker. Which honestly would make a fair bit of sense. Who else in the Magic cosmology can create (not just summon, conjure, or replicate) life?

+1 - Discard two cards, pay 1B, target player discards entire hand and loses 7 life.

Fortunately that's not going to happen. There's no room for anything than a plus or minus and a number in the cost box of the abilities. So basically: all you can use to let them cast their spells, is their loyalty.

Malfegor rings a bell for some reason. I think he's from Grixis? I'll try and track down precisely where I heard of him from. But none of the other ones ring a bell.

Nihil Credo
10-03-2008, 04:34 AM
It probably rings a bell because it sounds like Belfagor. Euros to elderberries it's a Demon (conceptually if not mechanically).

Jeremy

Malfegor rings a bell for some reason.

You may have heard of:

- Belfagor, the ghost of Louvre (tale and movies)
- Belfagor, the demon/divinity in Palestine (myth)
- Belfagor the arch-devil by Machiavelli (tale)

Yes, Malfegor sounds Grixis

MattH
10-05-2008, 12:16 PM
Three obvious ones:

Esperzoa - Esper. Duh.
Malfegor - Grixis ('mal' prefix = evil)
Progenitus - Naya

That leaves Bant and Jund.
Kranioceros - since it sounds rhox-ish, this is probably Bant.

Which leaves Nyxathid for Jund. Something about the '-thid' ending sounds like an animal, a beastly thing, which fits.
