I know everyone was saying how adding a new rarity won't do anything to rarity or prices perse.
When Cranial Extraction came out, I was shocked at its price (it was about 10-12 Euri). Now I see this on the site of the most prominent Magicstore in the Netherlands:

Ajani Vengeant Shards of Alara Multicolored Mythic € 12,00 ($ 20 )
Elspeth, Knight-Errant Shards of Alara White Mythic € 15,00 ($ 25)
Empyrial Archangel Shards of Alara Multicolored Mythic € 9,00 ($ 15)
Hellkite Overlord Shards of Alara Multicolored Mythic € 9,00 ($ 15)
Kresh the Bloodbraided Shards of Alara Multicolored Mythic € 6,50 ($ 11)
Rafiq of the Many Shards of Alara Multicolored Mythic € 10,00 ($ 17)
Sarkhan Vol Shards of Alara Multicolored Mythic € 30,00 ($ 50)
Tezzeret the Seeker Shards of Alara Blue Mythic € 25,00 ($ 42)

For T2 starter prices (demand is not yet being pushed by succesful decks) these are extremely high.
How are the prices in the stores in the States?

They're going to be sold for a lot because it it perceived they will. They're mythic, so someone is going to charge more then normal for one and others will follow.

Just like oil speculation?

A lot of those cards will never see play and will drop down to a reasonable price eventually. Sure, they will be more expensive that other under-played rares, but not much more.

This happes all of the time. Prices spike when stuff frist comes out because the demand is high. They will go down.

+1

Prices will come down after the initial hype for the new set is over.

The exception could probably be Sarkhan Vol. There will certainly be competitive decks built around or featuring him, and the price can go even higher if those decks turn out to be Tier 1.

I think Tarmogoyf taught vendors a few lessons. If it might be playable, they're going to charge through the roof until the tournament scene develops.

Simply put: People will rather charge €30 for a card and drop it to €10 if it turns out to fail, than charge €10 for one and see them all snagged 1 day before the prices skyrocket.

Tarmogoyf taught us that.

online the mythics cost almost nothing except the planeswalkers. My local dealer said he would probably start sar' kahn at $20

On FMC, Tezzeret is roughly $20-30, and Sarkhan is $30-35. The others are anywhere from a few bucks to $15. So in reality, the "mythic" portion of their rarity means nothing compared to chases of the last two to three blocks.

Latest exchange rate says €1.00 goes for $1.39. So to update your prices: €12.00 becomes $16.68, not $20. €15.00 becomes $20.85; €9.00 becomes $12.51; €6.50 = $9.04; €10.00 = $13.90; €30.00 = $41.70; €25.00 = $34.75. Bottom line: it's not that bad

IMHO it's still too bad.

Sarkhan Vol is disgusting. Compare him to green powerhouses (and money destroyers) Garruk and Tarmogoyf, and you'll probably understand why he's so expensive already.

-He's in the 2 colors that accelerate mana at ridiculous pace now.

-His first ability both pumps AND grants haste to ALL your creatures (and those being on color are already pretty sick without it) until end of turn. Huge advantage for aggro decks.

-His second steals opposing creatures, and he can do it two turns in a row right from being cast. Or you know, keep the opponent from ever casting their finisher until he's off the board. Nice utility.

-His third ability will win the game on it's own. And it only takes him 2 turns to get to it. -6 for 20 damage in the air, spread out in 5 targets? Ridiculous.

Think of it this way. You can accelerate into him very consistently in Standard alone by turn 3. Cast him, pump creatures, say go. Cast another creature or direct damage to keep him around, pump creatures, say go. Next turn, activate him to get your dragons, play a new one, pump dragons......oops I won.

The real thing is, notice he's only hitting an average of $30-40, being TWICE as rare as the average previous "chase" rare, and obviously more rare than Tarmogoyf, as the set is bigger. In my opinion, be happy he's not $80.

I'm rather disappointed with white this cycle, I was actually hoping they would have something really geared towards it. The Planeswalker was mediocre to say the least.
