I was under the impression that you named after the card resolved. Is this right? or have I been cheating this whole time?

Naming is part of resolving the card (i.e. it happens upon resolution).

Keep in mind that you can't respond to the naming. The sequences goes 'play -> pass priority -> resolve [inlc. naming]'.

This is correct, you name on resolution. However, if you name when you play the spell and the opponent doesn't resolve, you are locked into that choice.

I disagree,

When you hide the cards that you don't want to be discarded. What good will flashback have? The cards are still hidden. Im talking about the situation when he doesn't know what cards you hidden.
