Can an animated equipment spell equip to itself?

We were in the car coming back from the tournament this weekend and John Daily and I digressed into discussion a fun casual deck which uses March of the Machines and equipment like SoFI and Jitte, etc. My question is this, can they equip to themselves once animated? With March in play, do the tribal equipment spells equip to themselves as they come into play? These didn't seem like easy questions to answer.

it says on MotM that animated equipment cant equip, so no.
