Do you have to play Hypnox from your hand to get it's effect or do you only have to get it into play from your hand like from Show and Tell to get its effect?

I'm guessing it's the first one but i saw a couple full English breakfast lists that run it so i was confused...and if I'm correct and you can't cheat it into play with Show and tell and the like why/how do the breakfast lists abuse it?

Play it from your hand, but you can cheat with Volrath's Shapeshifter, hence it's in FEB.

When Hypnox leaves play, return the removed cards to their owner's hand.

Volrath's Shapeshifter's static ability applies simultaneously with the Shapeshifter coming into play, so "comes into play" abilities trigger. It's like playing a 1UU Hypnox.

And to finish the job, discard another creature after that and the cards will stay removed from the game even when the Shapeshifter leaves play.
