Say I have a Chalice of the Void on the board with 3 counters. My opponent announces Krosan Grip, pays the mana (cmc 3) and puts the spell on the stack.
The split second reminder text (which I know is not the true text) suggests the Grip will get countered by the Chalice (since I'm not playing anything while Grip is on the stack) and the Chalice will not be destroyed.
What exactly happens? Is the Chalice effect triggered or static?

For starters the reminder text on Krosan Grip is the same as the oracle text.
Secondly, the chalice effect is triggered. Something like meddling mage would be static. Both of these would stop a Krosan Grip.
Krosan Grip says you can't play spells or non-mana abilities while it is on the stack. Triggered abilities are not played, they are triggered. To play a spell or ability you need to announce it when you have priority and then pay any costs and it is put onto the stack. Triggered abilites go on automatically and are not played.
Thus triggered abilities such as chalice and counterbalance can indeed counter a Krosan Grip.
That is correct. Otherwise it would not be possible to reveal a CMC 3 spell with Counterbalance to counter Grip or a CMC 1 spell to counter a Extirpate.

So, Chalice survives. That's what I thought.
Thank you, gentlemen. :)
