First off, this deck seemed to be in the middle of mbc, poxless-pox, sui-black or anything I just did not knew where to post this one so I started his own thread. The deck really surprised me, I was not expecting much of the built but the deck just kept winning me games, largely due to his strength against blue control shell.First the decklist :

Land

14 Swamp
4 Wasteland
3 Mishra Factory
2 Urborg Tomb of Yaghmoth

Creatures

3 Epochrasite
4 Ashenmore Gouger
3 Tombstalker

Disruption

5 Thougtseize/Duress (3/2)
4 Hymn to Tourach
4 Sinkhole
4 Smallpox
4 Innocent Blood

Other

2 Reanimate
2 Powder keg
2 Crucible Of the World/Jitte/Grafted Wargear

Sideboard

4 Leyline of the void
3 Extirpate
2 Powder Keg
4 Dark Ritual
2 Equipment/CoW

The deck started up as a Pox deck, but as all Pox player I soon realized that the worst card in the deck was… Pox, but the rest of the deck was working great, and whenever I would draw a pox, I would wish for a threat. So out goe’s the pox and the neither spirit (who always been sup par in my opinion) and in come the gouger and reanimate and so far the deck been really surprising.

Some card choice :

Lands : im still unsure about the factories, they usuly pretty average but they always end up stealing a game here and there, 4 was too much, 3 seem the right number
Wasteland is a no brainner, and Urborg is there to help to be black screwed for the gouger, they might come out, but running 7 colorless land , the stick in for now.

Creature :

Epochrasite : Seriously this guy is a mvp, on the number of game won he must be on par with tombstalker, he come in early , can trade against a couple of guy and always come back. He also becaume ever more potent while running a lot of symmetrical destruction.

Tombstalker : Ms. Black beat a lot

Gouger : I need a good finisher, was tried in this slot : Shade, Negator, Korlash and gouger just seemed the best, altought not blocking come to haut you sometime, he was the best overall for price/power/reliability.

Disruption :

Sinkhole : no brainer here

Hymn : see Sinkhole

Seize/duress : 5 is the good number I think

Smallpox : LD, hand disruption, creature removal, with things like epoch and reanimate this card is your friend

Innocent blood : Lots of symmetrical LD in here so the 1 mana casting is a blessing

Reanimate : Ok you put so much crap in all graveyard that you usuly got a good amount of choice with this baby

Powder Keg : This take care of a lot of problems

CoW/equipment : CoW give you land recursion, either good for stabilising or wastelock, equipment give more potency to your creature, win faster, im still in a big dilemma as to wich one is best.

Sideboard :

4 Dark ritual : against fast aggro and combo
4 Leyline : ok
3 extirpate : this deck can abuse this
2 Keg : Never enough
2 CoW/Equipment : What you dint put in the MD, so you can switch

Matchup analysis: This will be worked by archetype over specific deck

Blue control shell : This usuly go one side or another over 1 thing, counter/top, if the blue player drop this, usuly, you’re a gonner, if he doesn’t, a favourable MU.

Tempo (ex Team America) : Those deck usuly run few win-con, but are very efficient and have god disruption, the MU is slightly in your favour but the die-roll usuly determine the winner.

Combo : Even if you run a lot of disruption, this is a hard MU, you got to race them, and racing combo is usuly a loosing strat, but you got a game a win is possible

Fast Aggro : Another Hard MU, since you run untargeted creature removal, hitting what you need to hit is hard, LD is your best weapon here, again, unfavourable but winnable.

but as all Pox player I soon realized that the worst card in the deck was… Pox,

Not all pox players: it seems the only ones who come to that conclusion are pox players who never, ever, play in paper tournaments.

QFT, been playing pox since Weatherlight and always thought Pox was strong.

I like this deck. It's an interesting take on the archeatype. I don't think it's optimal because there is a lot of dyssnergy, but it looks fun regardless.

Crucible is hands down way better here than either Jitte or Skullcap. It's not even a competition imho. I would up the Crucible count to 3 and if within your budget, play some fetchlands.

I would also up the Urborg count to 3.

I also don't think it's ideal to play 4 Innocent Blood alongside 10 creatures and 4 Smallpox. If you want to play Blood, you probably ought to cut the Ashenmoor Gouger and by extention the Reanimate (though I'm a huge fan of both cards). You'll be saccing your Gouger to Innocent Blood to take out your opponents Goyf a lot of times. Plus, Gouger's casting cost is not well suited here. Even Phyrexian Totem makes more sense than Gouger in this particular build.

I really like this type of deck. I would agree with the last poster that Crucible is the best fit for the deck.

I play a very similar list except some minor changes,

Creatures:
-3 Epochrasite
-1 Ashenmore Gouger

+1 Tombstalker (with smallpox, discard spells, and wasteland he comes out so fast it is just awesome)
+3 Nantuko Shade (He is one of my favorite mono black beaters so I usually run him)

Disruption:
-4 Innocent Blood
+4 Diabolic Edict (I never ran epochrasite so I use this)

Other:
-2 Powder Keg
-1 Urborg Tomb

+3 Disk (I don't know if this is the right call for the slot, I always ran it but maybe keg is a better)

You really are understimating Pox. It's an extremely strong card. It is especially good at filling your yard for Tombstalker. The only reason I would ever not play Pox as atleast a 3 of is if I was playing the white splash list and thus had too many better options to choose from.

You shouldn't cut either Epocrasite or Urborg, esp not for Shade. Shade doesn't work well here. You rarely have that much spare black mana.

Innocent Blood is really good. I think it should be kept, and cards like Gouger and Shade should be left out of the deck.

Here is a really solid thread where the deck has to been discussed and tweaked ad nausuem. The thread was before Tombstalker was printed, but it's easy to make room for that one card.

I've been thinking about something like this, and these cards: thoughtseize, reanimate, TS seem very sweet with DEED. What do you think about splashing for it?

2 [TE] Wasteland

// Creatures
3 [MM] Nether Spirit
2 [FUT] Tombstalker

1 (Floating Slot, maybe another Gladiator, Mutavault, seize...)

// Spells
4 [ON] Smother
