I keep thinking someone else would have posted this over the last few days but because you guys haven't I decided that I'm going to have to. On November 20th, 2008 Wizards of the Coast announced their 2009 Grand Prix schedule and Legacy is back on the menu. After being left out in the 2008 schedule it's quite nice to see it return back in 2009 and hopefully they wont screw it over with some last minute errata like they did with Columbus in 2007.
Grand Prix Chicago will be held on March 7-8; exact location not yet announced. As it's a Grand Prix there will be a $30,000 prize pool as well as an opportunity to earn pro points and an invitation to a pro-tour. There are no other Grand Prixs or Pro Tours being held the same weekend making it much more likely that GP regulars will attend. Wizards also recently changed their rules for advancement to day 2 allowing everyone with 2 losses or less to advance.
The other major change for next year involves the cut to Day 2. Starting in 2009, if you go X-2 on Day 1, you've earned a spot on Day 2. That means no more worrying about missing the cut due to low tiebreakers…just avoid that third loss and your Sunday ticket will be punched.
* If 799 or less players register for the event, all players with an X-2-0 record (or better) or the top 64 players—whichever is greater—advance to the second day of competition for prizes and invitations.
* If 800 or more players register for the event, all players with an X-2-0 record (or better) or the top 128 players—whichever is greater—advance to the second day of competition for prizes and invitations.

I'm excited that there will be another Legacy Grand Prix as it's been far too long since we had one. I probably wont be able to go but there is always hoping. Anyway it will be nice to see which decks do well and if we are lucky we may even see a new deck or two emerge much like what happened in Grand Prix Philadelphia 2006 where Chris Pikula finish in 2nd place with a "rouge deck". Whether I am able to play in it or not; I can't wait as it will sure to be a lot of fun either way.
