- Picture the following format:
- Legacy but with a maximum playset size of 8.
- Try to predict the dynamics of the change
- ...meaning what would the DTB section look like?
- What would your MD of choice look like, going to an "unknown" meta?
- What about the SB?
- Obviously several cards would need banning to even attempt creating a pseudo-healthy meta. Let's just ignore that fact for the time being.
- As for now, the only card that's gotta be a nono is Pact of Negation.
Here are two of my not so creative builds:
Deck_01 (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3020/3058164035_67d211839f_o.jpg)
Deck_02 (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3059/3058164037_1b91b3f7ba_o.jpg)
Obviously pondering on that shaz won't keep you entertained for days.
I had fun thinking about it for more than an hour, though. Maybe you will, too.
If anyone cares I'd be glad to discuss choices, theories etc..

I keep mentally tinkering with an Ichorid list, but I'm very uncertain of exact numbers for each card. Frankly speaking though, it's a very, very absurd thing to test. Anyone thinking Ichorid is stupid good game one now, about half the deck would have to be banned or "restricted" in this format.

Oh right, this had entered my head but I didnt type it out:
8 Chalice
6-8 Leyline of the Void (8 between main and side)
44-46 others

I was going to say Ichorid, but that's been mentioned.
I'm thinking Dragon Stompy as well. We could finally fill up the 'mweh' three slots with awesomeness.

Meddling Mage, Cabal Therapy, and Pithing Needle would dominate in this format.

Haha, can't say 8 Petal/LED is bad lol
Also 8 FoW is amazing for control.

Man. I'd still play freaking Landstill. 8 Standstills is silly hot sauce.
EDIT: This would also make cards with Ripple funny.

Oh god, a Thrumming Stone deck would actually work. But what would it accomplish? Storm? Or burn of some kind? Hell, storm in general would be pretty busted. I'd like to see TES vs Ichorid.

Hmmm... DracoPlosion? HA!
Show and Tell - HAHAHAHA!
Yeah - there are too many cards that MAKE decks. For example, Survival. What Survival deck wouldn't want MORE than 4 Survivals?

The format would be unbelievably dumb because the combo decks would pretty consistently be able to turn one their opponents unless shown Force of Will.

Here's another not super creative but broken, broken deck:
8 Stifle
8 12/12ers
8 Force of Wills
2 Misdirection
2 Brainstorm
8 Street Wraith------------too broken in this format!
6 Concordant Crossroads
8 Lotus Petal
8 Gemstone Caverns----maybe not too hot afterall
2 Elvish Spirit Guide
SB:
5 Orim's Chant
5 Red Elemental Blast
5 Annul
-
@FrogBoy: True. But "dumbness" shouldn't stand in our way to make up some not so serious decks for a change :) I mean sure it's silly to picture yourself being destroyed by three 12/12ers on turn 1 but kiddie-style-fun none the less.

8 Accumulated Knowledge
lol Landstill.

12/12s are atrocious in this format. Why would you invest mana and cards and then say go when your opponent is just going to kill you?

I think it'd just be nothing but combo decks. 5+ Force of Will, 8 Chalice in every deck, too.

MeatHooks would be fun. 8 Crystallines are smexy.
However, they'd probably get overrun by Relentless Rats. People would say "Hey, if I can play 8 of any card, why not play 40?!"

I dont know why nobody brought up a 8Tarmogoyf.dec
8 Tarmos
4 Goose
8 Brainstorm
6 Ponder
8 FoW
6 Stp/Dures/Bolt

8 Chubb Toad
8 Coat of Arms
44 Whatever, this is awesomesauce .

I'm having a hard time believing that combo wouldn't just kill everything in sight. At the worst, they can simply Serum Powder or free cantrip away any hand that doesn't have enough loaded bombs, huge mana accelerants (if they need it), and protection cards to sink the Titanic all over again.
Force of Will won't be enough to impede their progress, and Duress (Thoughtseize probably isn't the better card) / Chant / Chalice will only work if you actually get a turn.

Nobody's mentioned that deck because it would lose. No, really, it's only barely better than Thresh is now. This format would be much, much more powerful than anything currently in Legacy. Slight improvements on old decks would not be enough to be competitive.
Combo would just dominate and destroy everything with the only surviving decks bathing in Force of Wills and pitch cards. The format would be... Vintage.

I figured people would come to the conclusion that combo>>everything else.
The question is why (in particular), and what a well tuned Combo deck would look like:
Here's another attempt:
{--edited--}
----------------------"Storm 50_V2.0"
Broken:
8 Street Wraith
Disruption:
8 Duress
1 REB
1 Pyroblast
Draw/Tutor:
7 Infernal Contract
3 Burning Wish
3 Mystical Tutor
Mana:
4 Simian Spirit Guide
8 Lotus Petal
8 Dark Ritual
6 Rite of Flame
Kill:
3 Tendrils of Agony
SB:
1 Infernal Contract
1 Tendrils
1 Thoughtseize
1 Innocent Blood
1 Grapeshot
3 Pyroblast
3 REB
4 Chain of Vapor (?)
@Forbiddian:
I think his format would kick Vintage's bootey any day of the week.

Throw a Cabal Therapy in the wishboard, and maybe some number in the main. It's going to kick ass in this format. Accumulated Knowledge becomes better too, but it's probably too slow. My inner ninja wants to build 16 Muscle Sliver.dec just for the kicks, despite its' crappiness.
EDIT: Rite of Flame?

8 Duresses, 8 Street Wraith, and 5 SSGs, with 0 LEDs and 0 Rite of Flames? Seems subpar. Especially with 7 Infernal Contract, why aren't there LEDs supporting them?
Also, why not toss in a few Ad Nauseums? You can make the curve tiny with 8 Lotus Petals for color fixing, 8 Rituals, 8 Rite of Flame, and 8 LEDs are more acceleration than you need.
Infernal Tutors or Burning Wishes mean you only need a Tendrils or two, plus some Ad Nauseums, and wham! Deck built.
8 Lotus Petal
8 LED
8 Rite of Flame
8 Dark Ritual
8 Infernal Tutor
1 Tendrils
1 Ad Nauseum
1 Ill Gotten Gains
8 Pact of Negation
9 Land
Average CC: .75
I'm sure that isn't the right number of Tutors and Ad Nauseums, but I mean, that should just win. How many land? I don't know; you want one and exactly one in your opening hand for Hellbent tutors. With only one Ad Nauseum but 8 Infernal Tutors, you still get to "play" 9 Ad Nauseums, which is nuts.
Really, though, Ichorid seems like it would be simply nuts. And who wants to devote your entire sideboard to Leylines and Crypts? No one.

With those in the list I'd say Mystical Tutor is the best tutoring effect you can run.

This format is completely stupid. Everything would be overrun by combo.
However! There IS a related format that would be interesting: allowing 8 of a card in a deck, and only that one card.

8 Lotus Petal
8 LED
8 Rite of Flame
8 Dark Ritual
8 Infernal Tutor
1 Tendrils
1 Ad Nauseum
1 Ill Gotten Gains
8 Pact of Negation
9 Land
This wins, IMO. Maybe tweak it with the 8/8 Mystical Tutor/StreetWraith plan... um, wait, no... Street Wraith and AdN = no good. But surely put in some Mysticals. I also like how sexy Rite of Flame becomes when we can run 8 of them.

The question is: Do we need land at all, if we aim at turn 1 kills, only..
I'd say 4 Gemstone Mine seems like the way to go. Especially since we want as many business spells as possible to max the storm count.
In this format we'd have to account for lots of turn 1 Meddling Mages, powered out by Petals and Chrome Moxen, which is why I'd add a second kill, namely Grapeshot or Brainfreeze.
PS: I like your version better than mine

Eh, I dont know about sexy per say, more like decent now. You still need 3 Rite of Flame (1+2+3) to make as much mana as the same number of Dark Rituals (2+2+2). RoF # 4+ are money though.
Here's another deck. Probably fun more than anything else :
8 Glimpse of Nature
8 Summoner's Pact
8 ESG
8 Nettle Sentinel
8 Heritage Druid
5 Birchlore Ranger
5 Quirion Ranger
1 Tendrils
2 Forest
2 Bayou
5 Green Fetch
Since it wouldn't matter as to what type of deck would dominate - combo - it comes down to which combo deck would have the best turn 1 win percentage + winning the die roll. Given that Spanish Inquisition is the fastest tendrils based combo at 4x, I imagine that the same would be true at 8x, so somewhere in between klaus' and AngryTroll's lists would be about right for your tendrils deck.

All I have to say is Rite of Flame x 8. Can storm be any easier? O wait, Dark Ritual x 8.
I do think Accumulated Knowledge x 8 (Oh my god, the final AK would net 7 cards), Force of Will x 8, and Standstill x 8 would be the leetsauce.

I don't think the combination of Pact + Infernal Tutor is very good  :
You: many mana, Pact + Tutor in hand.
Oppo: Fow + blue card in hand.
You: play Tutor.
Oppo: resolve =).
I think Cabal Therapy would fit better in the deck.

Come on people lets be serious for an instant :
8 Glimpse of nature
8 elvish spirit guides
8 sibian spirit guide
24 kobolds
8 Ornitopter
4 grapeshot (empty the warren would be funny as hell)
Playable kobold!! that format rule! ok i know the deck suck(pact of negation should be in there), but kobold!

I'm pretty sure the format would be made up of: Combo, and Anti-Combo, and of course some kids sligh deck.
