(mods, not sure if this should be in here or format discussion as I do not have a definitive decklist yet, but will work on it)

I remember puzzling over this card and wondering why it just never made it into any decks when it came out(as far as I know of).

http://ww2.wizards.com/gatherer/CardDetails.aspx?&id=48586

It obviously has really good synergy with thirst for knowledge and chrome mox, artifact lands are reasonable with it as well. Cards that need to be in the deck:

thirst for knowledge
trash for treasure
chrome mox
mystical tutor(optional, but seems solid here)
force of will
brainstorm
ancient tomb
some assortment of artifact lands
city of traitors 2-3(?)

beefy artifact creatures:
sundering titan
platinum angel

awesome artifacts:
mindslaver

Any ideas on deck direction people can offer? Or maybe if someone has tried this before and has information on the idea.

I have a version, but it's Extended and kinda bad....

Trash for Treasure isn't bad, but not as good as Welder, a little expensive for the current metagame, and a sorecry. Three strikes...

It goes well in a Stompy shell with the two mana lands (City of Traitors and Ancient Tombs) with obviously Thirst for Knowledge being your best bet to ditch cards into the graveyard. The deck needs a dredge mechanic or some more consistent way of getting artifacts into the graveyard. The best card that comes to mind and costs 3+ is Intuition.

I'm thinking this decklist (unrefined, untested):

4x City of Tratiors
4 x Ancient Tomb
10 Land in terms of a combination Mountain + Island. Off Topic: If you wanted to run fetchlands and go away from a moon effect as a lock piece you can just run Trinisphere. On Topic:

4x Thirst for Knowledge
4x Force of Will
4x Daze? Lack of Islands probably won't make the cut.
4x Brainstorm
4x Chrome Mox
3x Intuition/Trinket Mage
4x Trash for Treasure
2x Sundering Titan
1x Platinum Angel
1x Mind Slaver
4x Magus of the Moon/Trinisphere (I know Force costs 3 with Trini.)

I would suggest mulling over the Legacy Control Slaver deck thread and seeing their course of action with the deck. Gorilla Shaman seems like a better out than Trash for Treasure to be honest.

Look, the only really good non-Creature Artifact you'd get back is Mindslaver. It's not worth running a shitty card when you can just run Exhume or Reanimate or Animate Dead and get the same effect.

Well I suppose Wildfire decks could wish for it and burn off a Dynamo/Relic/Signet/Powerstone/Redundant 3sphere to get back a Bosh or Titan that was killed as opposed to waiting to draw another.

But again, Exhume would do the same thing here. The card is really just awful.

Jaynel beat me to it- Unless you're bringing back some sort of broken artifact that isn't a creature, Exhume and Reanimate are just better. The ability to use Welder over and over makes it a lot stronger than Trash for Treasure (except for the dying without ever activating part).

Mindslaver is the only card that jumps to mind as being powerful enough to bring back with Trash for Treasure, and then you only get to use it once. While one activation will often win the game, it isn't a combo you can build the deck around using (and then it costs 6R plus the setup of Careful Study or Thirst for Knowledge, instead of several other combos that cost less to win on the spot every time) because (especially if they see it coming), you can end up with a super expensive Time Walk and not a Win.

Like something of what Sims said, it might be a useful sideboard card in a Wildfire deck with many beefs. But only as a sideboard card, perhaps even only a wish target. It could come in handy in certain situations. I.e. against a Thoughtseize that snatches your Bosh.

But Trash for Treasure is only relevant if you're playing Bosh and Sundering Titan IMO. And in most cases, you don't. You're much better off with a Form of the Dragon.
