Friday night Legacy tournaments at the Batcave have failed miserably with lack of attendance. To replace them Mike has started Friday night Highlander tournaments. To jump start the attendence the first tournament will be FREE!!!
Where:
The Batcave
6403 E Mill Plain Blvd
Vancouver, WA 98661
When:
December 19, 200
The first round will begin at 6:30
Entry Fee: $0 ($5 every week afterward)
Format: Highlander, with rules from http://www.highlandermagic.info/
Contacts:
Mike: (360) 694-4947
The format is not Elder Dragon. There is a possibly of having a modified banned list from the official one, posted on the url above, in the future. This is not the case for this Friday and deck construction must fit the criteria posted on the official site.

So with Friday nights gone, what's the future looking like for the monthly tournaments? We're basically running out of places to play Legacy at all in the NW, and this was one of the few we could get people from both OR and WA to.
Also, what's the plan for when this inevitably ends up falling through? If regular attendance for Legacy was dying off, I'm personally not too certain that Highlander is going to hold much stronger.

I'll never be able to make a Friday night tournament, regardless of format. Life-stuff permitting, I can do the monthly Saturday or Sunday tournament, but that's it.
As for the business plan, if you can't make Friday night 1.5 tournaments viable, Highlander isn't to go be viable either -- you're tapping the same gaming sub-group, regardless.
Is Mike up for hosting the monthly Sunday Legacy tournament? That would be ideal. We just need to work on the marketing.

I would like saturday tournaments.
I would also would like to see a NW legacy champs, cup, or bowl. With a trophy that I can take home (as well as one that can be left at the batcave), and some sweet prises.
Also I am willing to help, I know some trophy companies and ect.

Over Winter Break we need to hold out Monthly (quarterly?) Legacy tournament. If Batcave isn't happening (say, for lack of payment for prizes), we can always do it at Ancient Wonders.
I'm in town for a couple of weeks. Want to do it before Christmas?
Ugh I have an EDH deck but I really have no interest in highlander. It looks like all the broken-ness was removed.
I am up for anything before Christmas as long as this weather gets better. A Saturday would also be a lot better for me after winter break is over since playing late on Sunday isn't good for my studying

We'll need to get info from the Ninjas and co from up in northern WA area, but I'm sure that I can arrange something with George over the next couple weeks if we can't get Mike to free up some time with Batcave.
Who's actually going to plan on showing to this thing though? It'd be nice to have a rough estimate for George/Mike in case there needs to be room set aside for more than like 8-12 in attendance.
EDIT: Also, chances are this would be on a Saturday I'm sure. Sunday AW closes early, no exceptions. So this would probably be the best day to set up there.

FUCK MY LIFE I left my Highlander deck in Seattle ;[
re: tournaments: yes. Batcave, Other Worlds, Ancient Wonders, don't care. Date is irrelevant as long as it's before the new year.
re: EDH duels: these are actually unbelievably stupid because of how hard it is to lose if you have Ancestral and the other guy doesn't, not to mention all the other stupid blowouts you normally associate with T1.

Wait, are you talking about Highlander or a Legacy tournament?

I'm in for Legacy. I can probably get at least one other unregged guy to come too. Probably two, maybe even three!
And we can drag Chris and Brett to one, too.
I'm in for Legacy.
Sat. works best for me but I definitely can't go every weekend.

Well, let's pick a Saturday between now and the New Year and make it happen.
Huh, that kind of doesn't leave a lot of Saturdays. Does this Saturday or Sunday work for people? I'd rather have it at Ancient Wonders, but we'd need to see if they will already be overrun with Draftes.

Next coming Saturday (27th) would probably be good enough time to warn George of the incoming people. This Saturday would make better for a trial run $5 setup. I've already been talking to him about the possibility of bringing Legacy back to Saturdays, and he hasn't really argued it. We would just need dedicated people for it.
The format would be Legacy, Jak. I can't afford (nor do I want to invest time in) a format that requires me playing T1 restricted with 150 cards. I'm barely scraping by putting together my own Ichorid list from tournament wins as it is, and without LEDs and Needle's the deck is like $90, so that should give you an idea of my budget currently.
If people are up for it, I can contact George over the next couple of days and ask him what he thinks of it. I know he just came across a shitload of new stuff over the past few months, so he's got a ton of Legacy staples, and would probably have no problem putting up store credit for the payout. Hell, he'd probably leave it up to us to divide how we'd want it set up.
So the other question is, do we want to make it a "monthly" special, and put the entry fee at like $10-15 to guarantee good prizes? If enough people said they were gonna be in for sure, I could probably even have him hold over a handful of decksets of playables (duals, FoW, Noughts, etc).
Yeah, I was just confused since this started out talking about Highlander.
Monthly tourneys would be awesome on Saturdays. I would go with a $10 to get a steady attendance.
The only problem I have with this Saturday is the weather. If it does like they say, it should stay this icy and snow even more :/.

Talking about Ancestral Recall? It is banned for a reason.

I'll talk to George about the recurring Saturday thing. We've done it on and off for years now down there, attendance just kept crapping out after a few weeks, so it always died off.
As far as the entry fee/prizes go, he's always been pretty much straight up whatever is paid is whatever goes to the pot in store credit. He's not out anything but a couple tables, so it's all money to him. And I'm sure he'd love to get some of the cards he's put out so much money on lately, and his stock is always enough to keep people happy about prize support.
Sorry about derailing the thread, Yawg, but best of luck with the Highlander idea :D
I'll start up a new thread tomorrow about a monthly $10-15 tournament once I talk to George and see if the 27th is good for him. And yes, if weather is bad, nobody is expecting attendance.

If you want a relative good size tournament I highly recommend you have the January/Winter tournament on January 17th or the 18th. Since the 19th is MLK's Holiday, which is a national holiday.
Edit: The 19th is a Monday.

Planning out a bigger tournament for the 17th would be a great idea, as it gives people a month to plan for it. The only thing that could possibly get in the way at that point is the weather.
I'll definitely bring that idea up with George, and Chris, if you're reading these, see if Mike still wants to run the monthly's just in case. I'd really rather have them at George's since it's a lot closer, but that's not very fair to the Seattle/Northern Washington crew, as it's another half hour each way tacked to their trek.

You can always do both. That would be awesome. It would be like the DLD that we had this summer.

Just to give an update to anyone that's still interested that these tournaments are still taking place and the attendance at the last one was 7. I have currently convinced three more people to come to the next one.
I know the attendance isn't steller but at least it's better then what the weekly 1.5 has become.
Hopefully I might see a random source'r or two show up but none so far (besides myself of course).
EDIT: 1/10/09 Turney had 10 so it's going up!!!
