Reasonable price to sell cards at

Hi All,

I am a player, who sometimes buys collections to resell. I prefer not to use ebay because I would rather deal with people face to face. Besides that ebay has an awful tendency to take big chunks of money out of your sale.

What is a reasonable way to mark cards up? Better stated, if you were going to buy a card what do you feel is a reasonable price that would make you feel like you were getting a square deal?

Is it motl prices? Is it motl +20%? Is it half of starcitygames? Is it something else?

I would also like to know why you chose that mark up.

In Germany we got a system called magickartenmarkt.de which lets people trade almost face-to-face charging an extra fee of 5%. Cards there are usually only about 50%-75% of ebay prices which makes them quite affordable. My local store sells cards for sometimes 10 times the markt price so it aint of any relevance.

So if I really want a card I sometimes buy it on ebay but usually I purchase them via magickartenmarkt.de or buy them from people in Munich which happen to charge about the same amount of money.

Wow, that is SUPER cheap, assuming that it is relatively safe I will need to use this if I get a job in Vienna!

Just a note, EU non-German speakers can access the same trading site in English/French/Spanish at magiccardmarket.eu. I'm using it and it's completely awesome because of the site design, of the prices, and - if you like them - because you get German cards at the same price or less than English ones.

If I am buying for personal use I have been know to pay up to 20% over ebay just for the ease of dealing in person I also pay store prices when it is something I need quick but our store I play at in springfield usually charges about 30% over ebay so for a shop its pretty cheap.

If I am buying for resale i will not pay over ebay price and usually will buy collections at about 20% below ebay. And I will usually resale at FINDMAGICCARDS.com prices locally or about 20% over ebay on the internet

Now I havent purchased anything for resale in about a year so this might be off a little.

And since i no longer have much of a collection I probably won't be for a long while. At least until tax season.

It depends what I'm buying. For legacyand type one cards I pay at least motl price. For newer cards I pay motl price if they haven't just been released and won't rotate soon. If they will rotate or what not I pay 25 percent below motl.

Aren't there any 'dealers' around where you live? Back here in the Netherlands we have some guys who show up at about every tournament, and often sponsor them as well, and they have great prices.

Like, about 60% of the-biggest-dutch-cardselling-page-on-the-internet prices and sometimes even less, internet would charge €27 for a taiga (which is of course ridiculous when comparing it to other sources of internet-buyable cards) and you'd pay 15 for it when buying it from one of these dealers.

We even use a term called 'Rudy-price' when talking about values of cards :)

Edit: Point of this story is of course, buy a taiga for 15, sell it for 22 or something to someone who'd end up buying it online anyway, make €7 on it and spend it on a free dark confidant!

Magiccardmarket.eu / magickartenmarkt.de is a great site imo. Unfortunately I'm not able to sign up there, as Switzerland (still) isn't supported and there are some issues with the Zipcode. On the other hand, Switzerland isn't in the EU, so thats only fair :tongue:

Lately I was buying my stuff from magicarsenal.com, as long as their prices were below starcitygames. Yeah, I'm one of these european who wanted to profit from the weak USD. At the moment, I'm waiting for the Dollar dropping again ;)

I personally buy at MOTL averages (Which are Ebay averages), adding 20% is a lot to add to that. 10% would be fair.
