Yup, the Ninjas are making this. Two of us from Portland, and a carfull from Seattle. Should be a blast!

When does the Vintage event start, and how many rounds are you expecting to hold before cutting to the Top 8? That'll at least give us an estimate of the event start time.

Is the store closing at a set time, or, say, inviting a rock band to play at a certain hour?*

1pm start for Vintage, plus five to seven rounds, plus four (or more) rounds of Legacy, plus another three or two rounds of Top 8 or Top 4...sounds like one if everything runs smoothly at the very earliest. Could be four or later if things go long?

We're game for it, I just don't want to show up and be disappointed if things are reduced to four rounds and no Top 8 (or even Top 4).

*True Story. I once watched the Finals between AggroLoam and Madness played entirely in the dark using sign language as the only means of communication. The sign for Devastating Dreams for your board was particularly enlightening.

The store will be open for the entire Legacy event until the wee hours of the mourning if necessary. Also, no loud distracting rock band. :smile:

Excellent, we're looking forward to it. Nick, get your lazy ass into our car.

Dan, Ryan, Brett, Joe, (Bardo, DeathWing0, LinkXWing) all of you guys are welcome to spots. So far it is just Chris and I driving up; I've got two comfortable seats left.

Alright, so $15 with 13 proxies, starts when Vintage hits top 8. What's the info on the Vintage tournament, as I'd like to hit that one up as well. I assume the entry fee and/or prize structure is a bit higher, at least? Same amount/setup with proxies as well, or sanctioned?

Well, good luck to any fellow Sourcer that decides to hit up either this or the Vintage event. The people that were going to buy my car haven't paid me yet, so I have to miss out on this completely. Sucks, I was looking to make an entire weekend out of a trip up there. Always a next time though.

Also, I'd like to see someone actually pull off getting me the lists of the decks from both Legacy and Vintage. I am especially interested in the Vintage lists.

In what the news media is coining "A shocking development," Ryan defies all expectations and has stated that he will not, in fact, be attending the tournament tomorrow.

Shocked forum-goers were quoted as being "simply beyond words."

Anyways, our car of four is going, and the Seattle crew of...three? Four? will be meet us there.

When you start having the same shit I've been dealing with for months now, you wouldn't be making weekly $5 tournaments, let alone ones putting you out $50+.

Had I got paid for my car today like was hoped, I would have been able to justify this one. I was actually really looking to break out Dragon again in Vintage, it's such a powerhouse right now.

Update!

Legacy hasn't started yet (but hopefully will in the next half an hour or so), and Vintage has almost cut to top8.
Nick (Yawgmoth) is on his third game in the match that decides whether or not he top8s Vintage. The rest of us didn't play Vintage, and are waiting around.

Was anybody able to score decklists, at least of the top 8???

How did the Legacy run go, who got what with what and when?

James scrubbed out with my Survival list after we were paired in the first round;
Brian scrubbed out with four color Meathooks, I'm not really sure what went wrong here;
Andy went 3-2 with his deck...now with 2 Brainstorm, 3 Sage of Epitar (up from 0 and 4)!
Gordy went 2-2-1; I played him round 4 to secure my Top 8 spot, he had to play round five for it, and lost to Slivers;
Abe went 2-2 or something with his Dreadnought list (not Dreadstill);
Chris went 2-2-1, beating James in round two; his two losses were both to Red Thresh with AggroLoam. Rough times.
Nick went 4-0-1 with Cephalid Breakfast, and we drew in the last round;
Finally, I went 3-0-2 with Uwr Dreadstill (Still not a real deck).

Mini Report:

Pre-Tournament:
We show up at 12:30 or so. We cube for six hours. It is awesome. Vintage starts an hour late, runs 6 rounds, and then they decide to start Legacy when Vintage goes to T4 so some more of the Vintage guys can play. We start at around 8pm.

Round 1: James with my four color Survival list.
I joke that at least my deck is guarenteed to win the round. We realize that it is more likely that we will be thrown out of the store for swearing than either one of us winning the round. Instead, we draw, so neither one of us does win the round.
Game one, I win when he makes some Survival mistakes. Game two he wins off of Magus of the Moon. Game three we run out of time.

Report to be completed later...

Game three we run out of time.

I totally would have won that game, too.

And the real kicker was that Volt drew his first round, too, so we got paired second round. Two Ninjas in as many rounds, that's just no fun.

Top 8 was (from my recollection)

1 4c Slivers
1 White Stax
1 Dreadstill
2 UGr Thrash
1 Mono-R Sligh
1 Cephalid Breakfast
1 Something I'll remember later.

I don't know if the TO is going to post lists or not, but I know that none of us walked out with them.

We start at around 8pm.

I am so glad I was unable to make it.

Who won?

(nice deck, Don)

Don, incidentally.

Still not a real deck, though.

I'm glad I went, the store was great, the people were great, etc.

However, I'm discouraged by the fact that Legacy is essentially extinct in Portland and treated like Vintage's little sister by the rest of the Northwest. It was advertised that the Vintage tournament would start at 1:00 "sharp," with the Legacy event starting when the Vintage tourney went to T8. In reality, the Vintage tournament started an hour late, and Legacy didn't start until the Vintage T4. I'm calling you out, tournament organizers. Make a Legacy event that isn't just tacked onto the end of a Vintage event for the players who don't want to go home yet.

The last deck was another Dreadstill. There was Ugr Dreadstill with Goyfs and Uwr Dreadstill with Swords.

Tournament Report Continued:

Round Two: RB Aggro.
He played lots of Epocrasites. I cast Standstills and win with Factories. A Dreadnought seals things up when they get ugly for me. 2-0.

Round Three: UGr Thrash
I win this one too. They have zero removal for Dreadnoughts, so the best they can do is Ice it. Counterbalance is also a beating against them. In game two, he is beating me with a Mongoose, and I am starting to get worried, until he plays a Goyf to speed up his clock. I Threads of Disloyalty it, and he is sad.

Now I'm 2-0-1, needing one more win to Top 8. I get paired against Gordy with his Quinn + Blue. This is a long, interesting match. I win it in two games. In the second game, I drop a second Dreadnought to make sure his only answers are his singleton Moat and Runed Halo (plus maybe one more Enlightened Tutor); turns out he had a Swords and would have won without a second 12/12 on my side of the board.

Nick and I draw in for the last round.

Top 8:

I get paired against White Stax. Frown.
He wins the die roll, and opens with a Chalice for 1. I drop a Counterbalance, a second Counterbalance, and a Standstill. He manages to resolve a Crucible before Standstill, but I didn't realize this was going to make me break it. He draws eleventy billion cards with Horizon Canopy while I look for a Trinket Mage. He finds a Mishra's Factory, and I take two for a couple of turns until I finally draw a Mage. I break my own Standstill, and stand up to high five him across the table (as I had seen happen across the room earlier in the day; at the time, I only heard the guy yell that he had to break his own Standstill; I now realized he was one of the other Dreadstill players); I miss his hand and almost hit him in the face. It was awesome. Anyways, I play Mage and EE for zero, pass the turn. At the end of his turn, I blow it; untap, and cast Relic of Progenitus, Divining Top, Dreadnought, Stifle, Standstill, and pass with no cards left in hand. He has a total of seven Moats and Humilities in his graveyard, because he didn't realize I was playing Dreadstill and not Landstill. He was also low enough that he only had one turn to draw an answer. He draws, breaks Standstill with an ORing, and I Stifle it with my last mana after I draw 3. Win!

Game two, I mulligan, he leads with Chalice, then follows it up with a Smokestack.

Game three, I go Island, Go; he thinks, and plays a Waste and passes back. I am holding Daze, and he was playing around it with his Chalice. Unfortunately for him, I also have Dreadnought+Stifle, so I win. If he had gone for it, he would have gotten an extra turn while I replayed the Island. I think White Stax should beat this deck most of the time.

Top 4:

I play Nick with Cephalid Breakfast, and win the first game in about three minutes. Land, go. Land, Dreadnought, go. Daze or Force or something. Game two, Relics buy me lots of time, but I don't even need much because of the Dreadnought that dropped turn three or four or so. This match is really hard for him, as I have Swords, Relic main, more Relics in the board, Counterbalance, Daze, and Force; also, that 12/12 dude is a little big.

The final round is against Red Thresh. I miss a handful of Counterbalance activations, but win the first game anyways. A gain, Ice really isn't nearly as good as Swords against 12/12s. Game two, he leads with an Island, I go Volcanic, go; he goes Wasteland, Ponder or something; I go Factory, Standstill, go; he draws Waste number two and double Wastes me. He then draws the next two Wastes as fast as I draw two land. I still try to make a comeback, but he wins on the back of a Dragon. I should have been Wasting his Volcanics; I may have been thinking his Needle was on Wastelands instead of EE. I also got rid of a Swords at one point with a fetchland instead of drawing it. It was 3:30am at this point. Game four, I win. Dreadnought crushes stuff. I'm even holding Threads for any Goyfs that he finds.

Overall in the Swiss: 3-0-2
Overall: 6-0-2

Props: Awesome tournament. Great venue, the staff was great, the players were great.
Nick, for Top 4ing with Breakfast.
Breaking my own Standstill.

Slops: 4am; also, Sheri's at 4am. But the food was pretty tasty, so Sheri's came out ahead.
