View Full Version : How many spells does your opponent play?

How many spells, on average, do you see your opponent playing per game? That question is intended not only for the Legacy crowd but for the Vintage as well. The reason I ask is because I've been considering Forced Fruition recently as, perhaps, one of the oddest finishers ever. With a number of ways to cheat it into play early and being in the right color, will an opponent draw out before they're able to use the card advantage effectively?
(For the sake of argument, let's say we cheat it into play turn 2-3 which would mean the opponent could only cast about 7 spells before losing.)
For reference:
CardName: Forced Fruition
Cost: 4UU
Type: Enchantment
Rules Text: Whenever an opponent plays a spell, that player draws seven cards.
Set/Rarity: Lorwyn Rare

If Forced Fruition had Shroud, it could work.
But Legacy and Vintage players play Force of Will and enchantment destruction maindeck (Oblivion Ring, Krosan Grip, Trygon Predator etc).
You'll draw your opponents a bunch of cards, only to get everything you try to do countered and then Forced Frutition blown up.
Or more likely, your opponent will just overwhelm you with 4 Tarmogoyfs and win.
I would love for you to play Forced Fruition against Storm combo though. It would be hilarious. Hint: They're going to bounce it right after drawing out their whole library.

If you can cheat Forced Fruition into play, why not put Empyrial Archangel into play instead?
I'm pretty sure that 7 spells would be enough for me to Counterbalance lock any opponent and beat with Goyfs. Nevermind if you Fruition me into Deed + enough mana.

I've played with Forced Fruition before. You're opponent won't play enough spells for you to win often, even with bounce. Six mana is far too much considering how much work it needs.
It would be interesting at four mana in stax.
Wasn't there some tinkering with Forced Fruition and Arcane Laboratory some time ago somewhere? There's some obvious synergy going on, especially when Force of Will is involved.

that card is awful in this format, but in against 30 other players in the same game, it works...
