GENERAL INFO:
-this is the second of what we hope to be a recurring monthly or bi-monthly legacy tournament series at Dream Wizards. Our first was quite successful, and we're looking forward to offering more events for our local Legacy players. Although Wizards has recently announced that Legacy ratings will count toward composite rating, we are more interested in trying to get new players involved in the format who may not own some of the more expensive dual lands, etc. This is the reasoning behind the 10 proxy structure.
-all proxies must be printed cleanly on a basic land card with a permanent marker and must include all relevant card text
-this tournament is an excellent way to prepare for Grand Prix Chicago in March. I will post top 8 information in a timely manner.
-current or former certified judges will be on hand to answer rulings questions
Hope to see everyone there. Come on out and support a great format!

This is event has a fairly mediocre swag/entry fee ratio unless you hit 24 players.
But 5-8 hitting money plus is savage. And the rest of the prizes are none too shabby, neither. I kind of wish we had a store in 'Cuse who ran events this tight.

This is being announced for Sat. the 14th, when we don't yet know when the GPT at Dream Wizards will be held?

Please note that on account of nerd love we've moved the tournament from Valentine's Day to Sunday, Feb. 15.
@ Parcher: As of now, I have not heard anything from our store owner regarding the GPT. Given that she OK'd the 15th for the Legacy event, I'd imagine its either another weekend or not at all. If I hear anything I will let everyone know. Cheers.

I think we have 10 from the NoVa crew coming, so the prize pool should definitely hit for 24+.
The reg. time reads from 10-11am. Does this mean we are starting at 11 instead of Noon this time?
I'll have a car full from Frederick at this as well.
Starting at 11 as opposed to noon would be nice.

Yes, tournament registration is 10:00-11:00 and play will begin at 11:00. Starting an hour earlier makes the event less of a beating on those working the next day. Great to hear from all those who plan to attend.

If I can get there with Major Fluffy, I should be able to get there with Moss Ballz. Expect it.
It's going to be amazing.

We had 39 people for this.
Top 8 consisted of
Top 8:
Me (Thresh Survival)
Kevin Kehoe (beastman I think) (Survival)
??? (Mono white control, Jack elgin's build I think)
???
top 4:
??? (Merfolk I think, I know it was mono blue, had kira in it)
??? (Black green discard heavy rock)
top 2 split:
Alix Hatfield (Obfuscate Freely) (Thresh with natural order progenitus)
Damon Whitby (Parcher) (Ichorid)
Here is the list I played:
4 Tropical Island
2 Tundra
1 Savannah
1 Forest
1 Island
4 Windswept heath
4 Flooded Strand
1 Polluted Delta
4 Sensei's Divining Top
4 Ponder
4 Brainstorm

2 Mystic Enforcer
4 Force of will
SB:
4 blue elemental blast
4 Tormod's crypt
4 Krosan grip
1 Survival of the fittest
1 Genesis
1 Fairie macabre
Round 1: Affinity
Game 1: He mulls to 5. He goes first turn land, lotus petal, springleaf drum. I think I play top on my turn. Second turn he plays double throughtcast to make up the card disadvantage of mulling, but he loses valuable temp here. I play turn two survival. He plays turn three master of etherium. I pass on my turn three. He plays cranial platting equip, I swords in response. End of turn I discard a creature get squee. Discard squee get trigon predator and cast predator on my turn, game over.
Game 2: I force a pithing needle and a ravager the first couple of turns while I drop a survival. I don't make it past three lands and don't feel like wasting a turn to get a trigon out so I just spit out a goyf every turn with survival. They are 5/6 and run him over.
1-0
Round 2: Dreadstill
Both games I get out a fairly early trigon predator. He has no way to remove it even post board; it goes all the way.
2-0
Round 3: Dredge
This is my worst matchup in the tournament. There are only two in the tournament so I guess luck was not on my side.
Game 1: I got pretty much nothing and just combos off and kills me on turn 3 I think.
Game 2: He mulls to 6 on the draw. His first turn is just pass. I then play a goyf. His second turn is pass discard stinkweed imp. I swing with a 4/5 goyf and I think play top. He dredges into chalice, bridge, and a few other things that do nothing this turn and no other dredger; he plays a land and passes. I swing with now a 6/7 goyf and drop a second goyf. He plays another land and passes. I kill him.
Game 3: He keeps a hand with no dredger. I counter a mid game break through and a second turn goyf goes the distance. He was able to chump for a couple turns but it didn't buy him enough time to get a dredger.
I do not think I should have won this match but I won it because he was obviously in experienced with the deck.
3-0
Round 4: Goyf sligh
Game 1: I think I mull to 6 or 5 with a tundra and a brainstorm. I hit the second land, another tundra and am able to stop all of his spells with force double swords and daze. I'm at 19 and he resolves a figure of destiny which he pumps to a 4/4. It goes all the way and I am sitting with a hand of gas including a 4/5 goyf but never see a green land or another cantrip to get one.
Game 2: I get an early goyf and counter/swords to keep him off threats. He drops a goyf which I force, he Rebs, and I beb ftw. My goyf is able to race him since he was mostly out of spells and I still had high life. Also he cast Price of progress with a mana open and I dazed, leaving me with just one non basic land (man even the "drawback" on daze can be really good.
Game 3: I’m on the draw and keep a one lander with no cantrips, risky I know but it is a really good hand if I hit another land. I slow him down with daze and force and hit my second land around turn 4-5, much later than I would have liked. I drop a counter balance. He gets me down to 4 and plays a barbarian ring. Alix is sitting next to me and thinks it's all over for me. He plays a one drop and I reveal top (lol of course!) I play top, next turn I play a 4/5 goyf with swords and beb still in hand. He has no outs anymore.
4-0
Well the judge was only going to make it 5 rounds but changes his mind now and makes it 6, so Parcher who dropped after round 3 is back in and was given a buy for round 4. Whatever, it wasn't sanctioned. also I am the only undefeated here so I get paired down and my oppoennt can't draw in.
Round 5:dreadstill (but dreanaughts in the SB)
Game 1:
We have counter wars. I land a survival with one creature in hand (only card) and top on the table and 2 mana open and crap on top of my library. He goes to play a trigon predator, I discard the creature and get my own predator. I top hoping to hit a daze or at least a force. I hit the force, draw it with top and force the predator. So I am thinking I am doing pretty damn good now. He drops counter balance for his turn. I draw top and attempt to play it, he flips revealing top (!!!!why does this always happens!). He plays top. I figure I can still be ok here, I can get a creature, get squee and a predator, destroy his counterbalance and be ok, he has no clock right now. His turn he drops a 6/7 goyf. My next 4 draws are 3 lands and a counterbalance. I draw a swords the last turn but it's useless.
Game 2: I don't really remember what happened, but I won this game. A long drawn out game of us answering each other things. I either got a survival to stick or a counterbalance top.
Game 3: We got less than 10 minutes. Fortunately for me all I need is a draw to make top 8. He answer each other stuff, not much happens. In turns I get out counterbalance top and he gets out a confidant. He's in the low teens for life. Who knows who would have won there. There was no slow play in this game we were both just playing very slow controlling decks.
4-0-1
Round 6: Alix and me ID
5-0-2
Top 8:
Parcher (Ichorid)
Great, the one match I really didn't want to get, always seems to happen to me in the top 8.
Game 1: I got nothing, he runs over me. Although I may have won this game if it weren’t for a very bad play mistake. He flashes back a therapy targeting himself (I know he has two troll in hand). He has one troll in the yard and no other dredges. I automatically say it resolves and realize me stupidity a moment later cause I had counter balance and top out, I should have countered it, but just forgot. Woops, not used to playing with blue cards yet. His first troll dredge doesn't hit any other dredgers abut those second two do. The game ends up fairly close. I get him to 6 with a enforcer out, but he has two nacrobembas to block and is killing me next turn. I think I may have won this is not for my bonehead play.
Game 2: He first turn therapies himself and I force. I drop survival on my turn. He plays putrid imp which resolves. I uptap play my 3rd land and swords the imp. He discards a dredge. I then discard a creature get squee discard squee get fairie macabre and macabre his dredger and therapy. I then play out two goys then witness back the macabre. He doesn't draw another discard outlet.
Game 3: I mull but still get nothing. I keep a hand with force and second turn survival. He unmasks the blue card I have for force then goes off.
Oh well. I am still extremely pleased with how the deck did and I may have done better if I had more experience with the deck. It was kind of rough losing in the top 8 to the guy that dropped out after round 3. All in all I had a blast with the deck.

I have learned a valuable lesson here:
Cold Eyed Selkie is good enough to get there, but apparently Nicol Bolas, Planeswalker is not.
Lessons have been learned and mistakes have been made. Let's see what happens at the next one.
Also, these things are awesome. Many high fives to Archivist for setting these up.

Uhhhh......Go fuck yourself?
It's not my fault that after 15 minutes of arguing with the judge after round three that at least two X-1's will not make it in with 5 rounds, and him obstinately refusing to acknowledge the realities of basic mathematics, that I dropped with no chance to Top 8. After hearing the change before round four, I simply asked for my entry fee back from Chris since I felt I had been lied to. Chris and the judge made the decision not to repair Round four (since they hadn't called a start yet due to this issue) due to time issues, and to put me back in with the bye. I did actually win every match from then on.
Chris, thanks. Really fun times again, but that judge was pretty much clueless.
On a side note, Nick DiTizio now rivals Dr. Dan as the sexiest Magic player alive. Anwar has dropped to third place.

I believe that the beauty of natural order in threshold is something that needs to be seen to be believed. I have a new outlook on life now that I have seen a threshold deck have an opponent scoop off a turn 4 natural order, without playing a single other spell. Dryad arbor Alix?!? **Facepalm**

Many thanks to all our local hardcore Legacy players and newcomers for showing up en masse to enjoy some great tournament action on Sunday. We had 39 players total, many of whom brought with them an established piece of the metagame or graced our presence with innovative designs sporting some of the new, bad-ass mythic rares from Conflux. Top 8 decklists are now posted in the appropriate thread. Although this is the last DW tournament before the Grand Prix, stay tuned for our next event, hopefully toward the end of March!
