Ok, I'm curious why this is. You have to have a decent "Limited" rating or overall rating to get a bye to a Legacy event? Weird.
Here's an excerpt from the Wizards page.
First-Round Byes
Players with a Players Club (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Events.aspx?x=protour/playersclub/guidelines) level of 1
Players with a DCI Total rating of 1850 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Total ratings published on March 4, 2009.
Players with a DCI Limited rating of 1800 or higher. Byes are based on DCI Constructed ratings published on March 4, 2009.
If it was based on Eternal rating, I was close to having 2 byes. With it based on Limited, I'll have to win this Pre-release to have a first round even since my Limited rating sucks really bad and it kills my overall score. I never liked Limited much.
That kind of sucks. I have one of the higher ratings in the country for Eternal, but I can barely scrape a first round bye. Fah. I guess I'm going to have to try pretty hard to get one of these Players cards instead for later stuff.
I wonder why they wouldn't use the Eternal rating instead. Seems to make more sense.

Seeing as it says limited in the first sentence, and constructed in the second, i'm going to guess there was a typo and constructed is the actual rating used.
As for Eternal not being counted, I think they just replaced that with Total, which I don't really like, but it's better than not including eternal ratings at all.

I emailed wizards about this and they said:
The Fact Sheet for GP Chicago is correct and you can check this by going to the Magic: The Gathering Premier Event Invitation Policy which can be found in the Document Center. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dci/doccenter/home
Thank You
I replied by quoting their policy: "They are issued based on the DCI Total Rating and the ratings category that corresponds with the format of the Grand Prix tournament."
I dont think legacy is considered a limited format.

And then there was much rejoicing, as many byes were suddenly earned.

Rocking, thanks for finding out about that, I was bumming. Though I still am in a way because I can't play any more local tournaments unless it's standard or I'll lose points more than likely.
Either way, Yay! I get two byes.

I was hearing the past few weeks that this information is wrong and only total is counted, but I checked and Birdman is correct. Source (http://www.wizards.com/Magic/TCG/Events.aspx?x=mtgcom/grandprix/chicago09)
3 Byes:
Total: 2050
Eternal: 2000
2 Byes:

Eternal: 1900
1 Bye:
